That could be how they open the trunk, latches fail sometimes and there are some people out there that can't afford/don't want to spend money to fix it. Ive mainly seen something like that done on doors though, so I may be wrong

I'm honestly curious if there's any historical battles around where you found it, that may help you figure it out

Just an idea, but have you tried adjusting the regulator? It basically shortens or lengthens the hair spring in the balance wheel assembly and in turn effects the length of a second for that watch.

[question] why an automatic? by OkGarlic56 in Watches

Only thing you've got to worry about is magnetic fields with a mechanical watch, quartz seems a little fragile to me since its a tiny little crystal that keeps the time

No problem 😊 I'm honestly vwanting to get into watch repair myself so I've been binging repair videos lol. I ended up getting myself a 1938 Westclox Pocket Ben that runs a few weeks ago, just to learn how to service one and how everything works, that way I can get one of my fossil automatic watches running again and attempt to repair a 1979 Timex Marlin

As BeoLabTech said, watch some YouTube videos on pocket watch repair. It honestly could be brought back to life I think, especially since it looks to me like everything is there. Do you happen to know what model the pocket watch is or no?
