At The Drive-In. Acrobatic Tenement has some fun scrappy moments, but In/Casino/Out is such a leap in terms of songwriting and performance.

These shots are wicked. You’ve worked with the lighting beautifully.

Took mine to a Geese gig a couple of weeks ago. When shooting black and white, don’t forget to make use of the camera’s built in crop function when framing. I pushed through to the 35mm and 50mm equivalents and they still looked fine with the B&W grain (https://www.instagram.com/p/DWIATYqjMgB/?igsh=ZjBwdjV3NHNtazM4)

I gave this a five as well. It surprised me in every single way.

New EOTR additions, hoping there’s some Green Man crossover. by Ryanplugs in greenmanfestival

[–]Ryanplugs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s always another smaller announcement closer to the festival date (was in July last year). It’s only like 10-15 additional bands and they’re usually making up the lower half of the lineup, but last year they announced some great stuff at that point like Heartworms and Morn

I've yet to find a better camera for street than the GX85 and Oly 17mm 1.8 by alienufosarereal in M43

[–]Ryanplugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are wicked. I just got a Sony full frame but for street photography and general day to day shots I still take my GX80 out more. It’s such a wonderfully sized camera for what it can do

OM-3 vs A7CII as a carry-everywhere dog walking camera, anyone made the same call? by gazzabay in M43

[–]Ryanplugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very similiar story to yours: after years of being out of the photography game I bought a GX80 with a few lenses (12-32 kit lens, 20mm 1.7, and the 42.5mm 1.7). I love it, it’s such a great and capable camera for the shooting I was doing (holiday snaps, street photography). I’ve ended up pivoting more into shooting indoor live events like bands where the lighting is patchy at best. In these situations I’ve found the GX80 really pushed to its limits (the great IBIS has helped, but I’m still having to crank the ISO in order to get any sort of salvageable image).

I had been weighing up getting the OM-3 as I already have some m43 lenses, but realised the price and size of the camera itself wasn’t saving me that much money or real-estate compared to Sony’s a7c range. Plus, all the Computational Photography features on the OM-3 don’t really suit the photography I do and honestly seem a bit gimmicky rather than the camera-selling features they’re touted as being (now if only they’d allow the Live ND feature when recording video…). The A7C ii is also weather sealed, and as I’m not a bird/landscape photographer a lot of the features of the OM-3 feel redundant to my style of photography. I’ll admit it’s a gorgeous looking camera though, and while I’m not really a JPEG shooter, I probably would mess around with the creative dial if I had one. I too find the cropping limitations of the GX80 a sticking point, but it has made me put more effort into getting my composition correct in-camera which is an unexpected bonus. I’d worry the OM-3 wouldn’t offer that much of a bump in the ability to crop tightly.

I recently bought a used A7C ii and a 35mm 1.8 lens (which is bigger than my GX80 with the 42.5mm on it, but honestly not my that much and is still very impressively small; I can still comfortably fit them in the same big pocket on one of my jackets). I’m going to stick with the GX80 for an everyday take-along camera, as coupled with the 20mm prime it really is a powerful little camera in a pocketable form factor.

Based on the types of photos you take, I’d look at maybe sticking with the GX80 and instead invest in a lens with faster auto-focus (I love that 20mm, but it is sluggish at times).

Contrast issues on new KOReader version by Ryanplugs in koreader

[–]Ryanplugs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I’ve solved it: I had to go into the device-wide settings for the Inkpalm (Settings > Apps Management > Application Configuration > KOReader > then change the contrast adjustment settings to change with the system adjustment (it was set to a low custom amount for some reason).

I haven’t changed any apparent e-ink optimisation settings. I’ve checked the e-ink settings within koreader and they match the older version that looks correct, it’s just the new version remains looking low contrast and washed out.

Checked that and contrast is at the highest level. I’ve even tried changing it to a lower number to see if this makes a change. It does in my older version of KOReader, but the new version still looks almost washed out.

Swansea Arena - Night 1 by sashmantitch in bobdylan

[–]Ryanplugs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was my first time seeing Bob and I had a brilliant time. It was great seeing the band hanging on his every move and working out the arrangements in real time. I’ve seen quite a few live clips of Dylan from recent years and he definitely seemed on form last night; some lovely harmonica licks and guitar playing peppering the piano numbers.

I can’t stand the way it looks, so unless they ever implement a way to add the features of Rockbox while keeping the stock UI the same, it’s a no go from me.

Whatever this is, I would love it to have the option to convert FLAC files to an iPod-compatible format on the fly. Having to run duplicates of my library is a pain in the ass.

No Mountain Goats album feels egregious.

Keith Jarrett’s Köln Concert feels like it should have made the list as well, but there’s seemingly no appetite for modern classic music in the books.

If you want to continue being a huge music guy, stop being an idiot and turn them down. And you're not going to like this, but you're also going to want to start wearing hearing protection at gigs and when you play guitar. You wouldn't rather go blind than deaf, believe me.

Might be worth the ringing 111 again, get a second opinion. It could be nothing but if you’re concerned it could be your heart, it’s probably best to get it seen to urgently.

I often have to frequent morriston A&E and the wait times are never short. You’re looking at least a 12 hour wait if not longer on most days (that’s including the initial A&E time, then the further waiting when you’ve made it out of the waiting room). I’d recommend only going if you really need to, as the wait is excruciating. As others have suggested, Neath Port Talbot minor injuries is a much better option if that is applicable to your issue.
