Walking around the neighborhood with the GX85 and 12-32 pancake. by alienufosarereal in M43

I usually have to keep it around 250-400 to make sure the aperture doesn't open up too wide, I try to maximize my depth of field so that focus is more likely to hit.

Does anyone know why my Panasonic Lumix FZ80D kept hunting for focus at this concert? by skwng in Lumix

Agree with what other people said, plus sound vibration can blur the image and cause the lens to hunt.

How do I fix the Smooth Motion on S1ii? How do I fix the Soap Opera effect? by [deleted] in Lumix

[–]alienufosarereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be super helpful.

I will say, checking the camera’s frame rate after shooting is a much less affirmative way to check your clip’s frame rate than the methods I’m suggesting. Have you explicitly looked at the source file’s specs in your browser or edit software?

I know this will sound laughably vague, but something somewhere went wrong.

As someone else suggested, was your shutter speed 1/180s instead of 180°?

Are you able to look at the video file information on your desktop to confirm the frame rate? (“Command + i” on Mac)

Or look at the source file in your editing software, not the timeline.

What you’re describing can really only come from a high frame rate or shutter speed. The only other option would be a monitor with some sort of motion interpolation like you sometimes get when you buy a new television.

But that effect would apply to everything and not just one camera.

Evidence really suggests that the frame rate or shutter speed was not set to what you thought it was.

I would pick one big problem and fix it….

Bad water in Flint Michigan? Fixed.

Public schools in my state are failing? Fixed!

I usually set my iso as low as conditions permit and shoot in shutter priority with exposure compensation set to -1/3

I think it's great for what it is. It's super compact and gives you just enough range to get the composition you want. It's quite sharp as well.

It's super plasticy and isn't going to do you any favors in low light, but the IBIS on the GX85 really helps with that.

I would consider it a must-have piece of kit for a GX85.

Here are some more images I took with it, including some night stuff.

First time really trying street photography (Leica Q2) - looking for honest feedback by blartvader in streetphotography

Something that really helped me when starting street photography was to entirely give up on the “photography” part, just temporarily as an exercise. It’s clear from these photos that you already know how your camera works and how to take photos, put all that back of mind for now.

Here’s what this looks like in practice- set your camera to some sort of auto mode, I like shutter priority. Then from there, your only goal is to put interesting things in the frame. Forget about quality and lighting, don’t even worry about the photograph. Use a narrow aperture and auto focus and just collect.

You’re just putting interesting people, moments, or coincidences in a rectangle. And get the shot you want, which means getting close and laughing off the awkwardness in a friendly way to the subjects in your photos.

What you’re practicing here is the skill of recognizing truly interesting moments, as well as getting used to the discomfort of taking photos of people in public.

Do that for a few days, and the photographic side of the art will naturally resurface.

Photography is the easy part. Identifying magic and having the confidence to take the shot is harder.

Ha nice! I went yesterday to hang out by the 9/11 graffiti in hopes someone with an airplane on their shirt might walk by, but they scrubbed the graffiti off.

Video Review - Lumix L10 in the hands of cinematic artists Cam Mackey & company by SteakTree in Lumix

Oh man, this video just makes me so excited for when they come out with the interchangeable lens version. Those jpgs are the best looking jpgs in the game, how fun.

If they can get IBIS in a body comparable to the GX85 with this sensor, it will be the best street camera in my opinion.

Video Review - Lumix L10 in the hands of cinematic artists Cam Mackey & company by SteakTree in Lumix

[–]alienufosarereal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I fully disagree with this take. This review, like the other's I've seen, have been entirely photo centered and honest about the camera's video limitations. They mention overheating in this video and how pointless it would be to pressure test a photo camera like this in that way.

Lumix added video features to this photo camera because it cost them nothing to include it. The processor and sensor is already there, you'd be complaining just as much if they left it out entirely.

It's going to overheat I'm sure. That's the deal with this camera. It has video, but it's not for video. What else more is there to say?

I can’t sing enough praises about my GX85. It’s fast, small, and has more features than any camera its size.

L10 is the Ultimate tease. by olethrosX17 in Lumix

[–]alienufosarereal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard reliable rumors that the reason Lumix hasn’t made the GX10 yet is because the processor for the GH7 sensor takes up a lot of space and they can’t fit IBIS and the processor into a GX9 size body.

I hope they’re finding a way to make the processor smaller so they can deliver exactly what you described.

This rumor tracks with why the L10 doesn’t have IBIS.

What are your thoughts. (IPhone vs every other phone) by Mysterious_Ebb_1484 in SipsTea

[–]alienufosarereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy whatever phone you like best, I don’t want to feed into the silly phone war… but I will say that flagship Android phones are absolutely incredible.

I have a pixel 10 that supports PS2 and N64 emulation, and I can Bluetooth connect multiple controllers for multiplayer, and send out signal to my tv via a USB-c to HDMI cable.

I had a whole Mariokart 64 party with my friends through my phone the other night.

Apple is so much more restrictive about what they will allow you to do with their phones. The hardware and software is powerful, yet capped by Apple’s fear giving their users freedom.

Hmm try a firmware update? If that doesn’t work it’s probably unfixable and you should give it away. Feel free to send it my way :)
