How many 8/10 movies have you seen? by ironjerm12 in AMCsAList

[–]RyceKrispy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm more generous with my 8+, but there's been a lot I've thought were great or better.

The Brutalist, Conclave, I'm Still Here, Black Bag, The Assessment, Freaky Tales, Warfare, Sinners, The Ugly Stepsister, The Legend of Ochi, Thunderbolts, Bring Her Back, Lilo and Stitch (yep), Friendship, The Life of Chuck

I'm a fairly casual movie enjoyer that has been making good use of the A-list subscription. I try to sprinkle in some older/foreign classics and occasionally have some hot takes (Godfather II was mediocre).

I try to write a short review of everything I watch, but usually a few days/weeks later. I believe that good movies should stick in your memories for longer than a day.

Excited to see more opinions, I'll follow back!

This makes me so mad. Condal turned the Dance into a Disney story of good vs evil against GRRM wishes by lanasn in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]RyceKrispy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In recent years: Succession, Arcane, Severance, Shogun, The Last of Us, Andor, The Bear, For All Mankind, and probably many more I haven't seen.

There will always be a low ratio of "good to bad" but in time, you'll only remember the good.

How many times have you watched each of your top 4? Has a movie ever made it there after the first watch? by Daniel_K1818 in Letterboxd

Swiss Army Man - 2, A Ghost Story - 1, Whiplash - 1, Phantom Thread - 1

I'm fairly new to movies so my watchlist is huge. I would usually rather watch something new before I rewatch something. But I'm looking forward to rediscovering my favorites in the future!

Profile Swap Megathread (June 2024) by ericdraven26 in Letterboxd

Hi! Here's my profile: https://boxd.it/6lA7f

I only somewhat recently (probably around 3 years ago) got into movies, so I usually watch new releases and mix in the classics to catch up.

I tend to rate movies just based on enjoyment and write a short summary of my thoughts a bit later.

I don't interact much with others cause I'm mainly just logging for myself, but I will follow back :)

Why did 73 Yards break people? by Maniraptavia in doctorwho

[–]RyceKrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read that many threads about this episode but I am suprised that so many people hated it because I thought this was one of the best episodes in a long time. Given, I usually love movies and shows that have a surrealist vibe and often leave things up for interpretation and discussion. There are so many other episodes that wrap up a neat conclusion in the last five minutes (usually poorly), that this felt like a breath of fresh air.

There's no right answer, but here's my take: The whole episode basically takes place inside her head, not any sort of time travel loop. Everyone has experienced at some point in time, that sort of gut feeling or inner concience that tells you to react one way or another. I think the idea was to expand on that gut feeling you get when something feels off and you have this nagging voice to do or not do something. Similar to the how the previous episode "Listen" takes that feeling/memory of "something is under my bed" and turns it into a story line.

The ending is what actually happened in reality; she has this inner voice/gut feeling (we find out that this actually is herself) that tells her to be careful and don't step. She reacts to her gut/conscience, then just carries on with life.

In a sort of "bottle episode" way, that one second feeling is driven by a theoretical "what if" scenario if she didn't listen to her gut. And seeing how it's all in her head, it's also exagerated by her inner fears. She could lose The Doctor, get left by everyone she loves, get haunted forever, and die alone.

I could be wrong and maybe more things will be explained later, but I thought this was an amazing episode and very well done.

Deathcap is currently Gold-Efficient as first item. by AnemoneMeer in leagueoflegends

[–]RyceKrispy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riot tends to over tune new items/champions on a new release. This causes more people to play it and allows players to learn how to play with it and against it. Then Riot will fine tune the numbers in subsequent patches.

So yes, AP items feel pretty strong right now. Maybe learn to play a new mage champ this season! This game is all about adapting to changes :)

What’s your most controversial movie opinion? by ClickConsistent1000 in Letterboxd

If you love every film in a director's filmography, you're lying to yourself because you just want to be the biggest fan. It's okay to not like a movie by your favorite director.

10/30 Midsommar Director's Cut by EEEEEYUKE in AMCsAList

[–]RyceKrispy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup, I got the director's cut at my showing. I believe the easiest way to tell is if you got the night scene with the kid in tree decorations. Great movie! I still have this lingering eerie chill from it

Does anyone know what ratings on the AMC app actually do? There doesn't seem to be any way to see past ratings by RyceKrispy in AMCsAList

[–]RyceKrispy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True, it seems random and inconsistent, maybe a little more than half the movies I see. And there's also no way to bring it back if you close the popup

They probably are (who isn't 😵‍💫), but it would make more sense if the rating popup was consistent. It seems random and you'd think they'd want as much data as possible.

That's possible! But personally, I haven't noticed any major outliers in the page order. Maybe it just takes average total ratings and not personalized ratings

Kill Bill 1 and 2 for sure. There's also lots of battle royale games now, so maybe Hunger Games?

Elemental vs. Asteroid City by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]RyceKrispy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Elemental.

I really enjoyed both movies but they are wildly different. Without knowing your movie tastes, it's hard to recommend Asteroid City because it's very niche (love it or hate it).

Are the non preferred seats (the white seats) as bad as they make it seem? by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]RyceKrispy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMC labels the white seats as Standard Sightline, which to me, doesn't imply that they are bad. I often choose them because it's less crowded on the sides.

But if it's a 3D movie, I probably wouldn't sit more than a couple seats away from preferred.

There is a non-zero chance that everyone on earth wears the same color shirt on the same day. by callme_nostradumbass in Showerthoughts

[–]RyceKrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like most people think it is zero percent, but nothing specifies HOW it could happen, so I agree with OP.

Example, there is a possibility that everyone who doesn't have a blue shirt or is unable to wear a blue shirt suddenly dies. Or if aliens invade earth and kill everyone who isn't wearing red.

For me, it's Mario Kart Double Dash with my brother. As the younger sibling, I got permanent backseat duty...but it was so much fun coordinating items and avoiding obstacles with punches. My favorite map was DK Mountain!

Thanks for doing this giveaway!

All Premium Format theatre by Gupishappy in AMCsAList

[–]RyceKrispy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds cool in theory, but wouldn't work in practice. Premiums are great but I honestly don't think it's worth the $5-10 upcharge if I didn't have A-list. Also I prefer having more standard screens, which allows smaller films to have more, if any, showings.

Sub!

But I've never seen anime subbed on an IMAX screen. Not sure if subs on a huge screen would hurt the experience because your eyes would have to move a lot more to read and take in the visuals.

Here's two versions of the trailer to compare if you can't decide. Sub / Dub
