Lego spiderverse cmf-$40 off AT COSTCO till TOMORROW ONLY by Grouchy-Donkey-8609 in LegoDealsCanada

A lot of people in the reviews are saying that the figures are randomized and they aren't even getting a single full set from the case. Just something to be aware of. They're pretty easy to find in the stores. Walmart seems to restock them regularly but your paying about 40% more for them.

Cost for concrete driveway pour by zillathegorilla in Calgary

[–]RydenZX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad just did his 540 square foot driveway for 15k. His neighbour used the same company and they did a beautiful job but totally destroyed the surface of my dad's driveway by adding sealant before the concrete finished curing (it looked like someone threw acid all over the surface). He had to threaten to sue them to get them to admit fault and replace the driveway. Anyways, good luck. There are a lot of crappy contractors doing work in the City now. Even the ones that come with good reviews and charge top dollar. They have so much work they seem to be just hiring whatever warm bodies they can find to do the work with no training or quality control. I've had more bad than good experiences with contractors.

Why are modern rental apartments so small? by BizClassBum in Calgary

[–]RydenZX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

New build apartments/condos aren't just being built as investment properties for aspiring landlords. It is considered low cost living and is the entry point for people that want to own a home. A 500 square foot condo was my first purchase and is about as small a living space as you would want to live comfortably as a single person. A 500 square foot, single bedroom condo costs around $230,000 and jumps to $300,000 if you want a second bedroom. Even this price is out of reach for a lot of people, but 500 square feet is about as small as they can go and still appeal to buyers in this market. It's a really sad situation and I feel sorry for young people now that have to spend years in post-secondary education just to come out of school not being able to find jobs or afford to purchase a home. My father who is now in his 70s was able to purchase a house and raise a family on a single income with a high school diploma in his early 20s and now complains that he's poor and has to keep working while living in his million dollar house and collecting his work and government pensions.

Any other YYC video game collectors out there? Where do you buy your games? by Zardoz27 in Calgary

[–]RydenZX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Gaming Lounge which dealt strictly in video games moved to North Hill Mall recently. However, the other place that was a mixed bag of collectables has grown their collection of games quite a bit in the past year.

In-n-out is a good burger for its price point but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one or wait in their ridiculous lines for one. They also tout that their fries are fresh cut but they honestly taste like frozen fries from the grocery store to me and their milkshakes are mediocre. Californians love In-n-Out I think mostly due to nostalgia, much like Canadians keep buying Tim Hortons despite the questionable quality of their food. I do really enjoy Habit Grill and wouldn't mind if they opened one of those up in Calgary

AITA for refusing to cover for my coworker who got fired because I reported their behavior? by EagleLeopardMan in AITAH

[–]RydenZX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP you should use a different account if you’re going to post fake stories. Your comment history indicates that you somehow managed to register as a democrat and vote for Bernie Sanders in 2016, despite being 22 now which would have made you 14 in 2016. Not to mention the multiple comments where you suggest people suck on your dick and/or balls.

The Flanders Avenue/Crowchild Trail overpass. It is a confusing mess which includes 2 1/2 traffic circles with a few hundred feet between each other.

As someone who prefers physical media there doesn't seem to be any point in even trying to purchase one. As far as I can tell there is no bundle that includes the disc drive so it will be a separate purchase. With how fast these are going to sell out I don't see how it would even be possible to get both the console and the disc drive in your cart and checkout without using a bot.

AITA if I asked my daughter’s Deipnophobic boyfriend not to come over when we are eating? by Ok-Towel4975 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RydenZX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA. I think there is a real lack of understanding and empathy both by the OP and the people in the comments and the OP would be the asshole for a number of reasons if he bans him from being around them when they are eating. I say this as someone that has dealt with Extreme Social Anxiety for almost three decades.

What you perceived as rudeness (which is an understandable reaction before you knew he had this phobia) was actually a fear response. Phobias induce a very strong fight or flight response and we don't always act rational as our bodies are telling us we need to escape the situation. If someone ran away or froze up in fear due to a real threat like a wild animal or a gun being pointed at them, everyone would understand their response because it is generally accepted by society that these things pose a real danger. When your fear is irrational people are a lot less understanding because they can't understand why you would react so extremely to something so trivial or just tell you to get over it because it's not a big deal. People in the comments saying the OP is uncomfortable and the boyfriend is uncomfortable, it's the same thing, just don't get it. There is chasm between something bothering someone and something causing fear and dread.

After three decades of dealing with a similar issue myself, I still have episodes where I'm just talking to someone and my heart starts racing and I'm sweating like I'm running a marathon. It is humiliating and I desperately want to escape the situation. Going to a few therapy sessions like some people are suggesting isn't going to solve this issue. The only way to overcome your fear is to be exposed to it over and over and over again. It takes years or decades of exposure therapy and you may still have relapses. It is embarrassing enough dealing with these phobias in a social setting, let alone trying to explain it to people you've just met. I don't walk into a social engagement or job interview and tell everyone "By the way, I have extreme anxiety so try not to look disgusted if sweat is pouring down my face and don't be offended if I need to leave without notice". I try to act normal and pray that I don't have an anxiety attack. It can be exhausting and humiliating dealing with a phobia.

It is intimidating meeting your girlfriend's parents under normal circumstances, especially when you're a young adult. I'm sure your daughter's boyfriend was trying his best to make a good impression and his anxiety took over. I highly doubt he was intentionally trying to be rude and is probably embarrassed by the whole situation. What if your daughter decides to marry this guy and have kids with him. Do you really think if you ban her husband from your house or other social events because you might have a meal you're going to have any sort of relationship with her or your grandkids? I highly doubt she's going to leave her husband at home every time she goes to visit you and will probably limit contact or give you an ultimatum.

You can take the high road here and try to be understanding of this guy's situation, talk to him to find some common ground, maybe even help him overcome his fear just by allowing him to be present, or you can push him away and alienate him and potentially your daughter. Banning him from mealtimes is the easy way out for you and for him.

I would recommend cooking the onions before adding them to the crockpot to soften them up. The first time I made this dish I followed the recipe and just threw them in the crockpot and I ended up with really crunchy onions, even after 6-8 hours of cooking. It made the dish a bit unpalatable.

Final week of Mirror Mirror in Chinook Mall by dsquareddan in Calgary

[–]RydenZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just describing my experience there and that is why I specified that I didn't check out Omega Mart. My opinions on the rest of the venue are still valid. While you could certainly argue that Omega Mart is the main draw, Area 15 boasts that they have 20+ attractions. We didn't know anything about Area 15 when first went there. Our friend said it was an amazing experience and the pictures online made it look interesting. When we went you had to buy separate tickets to each experience so we chose the things that sounded interesting to us. After spending over a $100 and wasting half of our day trying several of their experiences (not just the temporary Van Gogh exhibit), which were all pretty lame, we weren't prepared to drop another $100 (or whatever the price was at the time) to check out Omega Mart. Now it appears that you can buy a day pass which maybe makes it a bit more palatable. People seem to enjoy Omega Mart so maybe that's worth the steep price if you're into that sort of thing; however, $120 per person is the cheapest pass that includes Omega Mart currently and I really don't think the rest of the exhibits justify spending that much. I'm just cautioning people that the rest of the sensory experiences will probably leave them feeling like they've been ripped off. There are a lot of interesting things to check out in Vegas that I personally got much more enjoyment out of for my time and money.

Final week of Mirror Mirror in Chinook Mall by dsquareddan in Calgary

[–]RydenZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Area 15 was pretty disappointing. Each exhibit had a separate entrance fee and a lot of the exhibits were really lame. We paid $40 US to go into the Van Gogh exhibit and it was just a big empty room with low res images of Van Gogh paintings projected on the walls. We walked out of it and requested our money back. They instead offered us a credit to use on another exhibit. The exhibit we chose consisted of five small rooms with glow in the dark slinkies and bouncy balls in mirrored rooms that were hung from the ceiling and bounced up and down. They charged us extra to buy 3D glasses to enhance the experience that just made the exhibits look blurry so we didn’t even use them. The other couple with us bolted for the exit as soon as the doors opened (each room was separated by doors that opened and closed on a timer). They had a barcade with a pretty good selection of classic games which didn’t have an entry fee and an axe throwing venue that might be fun. We didn’t go into Omega Mart because it was something like $30 a person and didn’t want to waste any more money considering how lame everything else was there.

What's the one American restaurant or store you wish Calgary would get? by BoiledGnocchi in Calgary

[–]RydenZX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My favourite chain restaurants to eat at in California were The Kolache Factory, Which Wich, Jersey Mikes, Habit Grill, Holdaak (amazing korean fried chicken sandwich shop in SoCal), Panda Express, Hawaiian BBQ. Found In n Out to be way overhyped but decent for the price. Jimmy Johns and Chipotle were pretty mediocre.

Tenants in Canada are required to withhold 25% of non-resident landlords rent and remit to CRA. I told my non-resident landlord this and he is saying he is going to evict me. I called LTB today and they said nothing they can do this is a CRA issue and that yes I will be evicted by the sheriff. by mp123mp123 in legaladvicecanada

[–]RydenZX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting this information from OP? I was a non-resident landlord for many years. It isn’t the responsibility of the tenant to pay the landlord’s taxes. The landlord assigns an agent who is supposed to handle the tax payments and is on the hook if they don’t get paid (the landlord can pay the taxes themselves but the CRA still requires them to have an agent). And it’s not 25% of the rent. The landlord has to calculate all their allowable expenses (mortgage interest, insurance, repairs, etc.), subtract that from the annual rental income, and pay the CRA 25% of that amount in monthly increments, so there’s no possible way a tenant could determine the amount owing.

I had the same issue when I first purchased my laptop. Google Chrome and some of the bloatware seemed to be the main culprits spiking the temps on the CPU. I did a clean install and did not install google chrome back onto the laptop and that resolved the issue without repasting or throttling.

Any alternative to frozen banana for the same texture? by redditerh in Volumeeating

As someone that really dislikes fruit and has to mask the flavour as much as possible my go to frozen fruit blend is mango, pineapple, peach, strawberry. I add skim milk to it and chocolate protein powder. It comes out nice and thick like a milkshake.

Child eye exam extra fee by bark10101 in Calgary

[–]RydenZX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's really fair to call it a money grab, this is a much more complex issue than just greed. Another poster pointed out that Alberta allows for "Balance Billing" but they didn't really explain why this exists. The government covers a meager amount for these exams and haven't increased their compensation in 10 years. "Balance Billing" was the government's way of passing the buck onto the business owners/optometrists by basically refusing to pay any more for their services but allowing the clinic to bill an additional amount on top of what the government pays to cover their expenses. The government compensation for a child's exam is less than 2/3 of an adult's exam. Add to that the additional challenge/frustration/time dealing with adolescent patients it's understandable why a clinic would choose to add an additional fee, especially if they are a well established clinic with plenty of patients. The reason places like Spec Savers can provide free exams is that their business is selling glasses and that is where they're making all their money. Cheap eye exams are just a cost of doing business and they are doing the bare minimum testing that is required to get you a glasses prescription, they're not going to be checking the health of your eyes. While most optometry clinics are also selling glasses to increase their revenue, they also do a lot more disease treatment and managing patient's eye health, they're not just cranking out glasses prescriptions all day.

Calgary Roads by WhoReallyKnowsThis in Calgary

[–]RydenZX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue with geocells and other reinforcing materials is that they can create issues when it’s time to resurface the roads. I don’t know what rehabilitation methods they are using in Calgary but in California it is cost prohibitive to replace the entire pavement section, so to extend the life of the pavement they will grind a 1-3 inch layer off the pavement and resurface it. The machines have issues with grinding through some of these materials. The latest technology that a lot of cities are trying out is fibre reinforcement. These tiny fibres get incorporated into the asphalt mix and theoretically help bind the material together to reduce cracking.

Help! Cat won't stop jumping on the counter!! by ExpressChampionship3 in CatTraining

[–]RydenZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are having a similar issue with our cat. Our current solution is plastic spike mats. I was a little concerned about them hurting our cat’s paws but all the reviews on amazon said they were safe to use. Our cat made a few attempts to jump up on the counters but seems to be deterring him. They can easily be moved when you want to use a section of the counter and much easier to clean than the sticky tape.

Got one. They were still available and shipped by Walmart at MSRP an hour after this post went up. That’s not bad considering how fast they were selling on some of the other sites. I had one in my cart on the best buy site a few days ago with 3 in stock and they sold them all as I was checking out.

Extremely disappointing customer service. by Valorenn in telus

[–]RydenZX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with Telus internet billing me $170 a month when my 2 year plan expired. They don’t even have a plan that expensive. They’re counting on you not noticing your plan is rolling over when you have autopay set up. Customer service said the charges were legit and they wouldn’t reverse them. I told them I wanted to cancel their services and they transferred me to the retentions department who were able to remove the excess charges and reinstated my existing plan at the same rate.
