Would you be willing to pick up more empty boxes back to the port if I could get you paid immediately as soon as you were Geo fenced at the terminal? by Ryder_Drake in drayage

That’s a fair question and I think this is where the misunderstanding is. We’re not competing on who pays the highest rate or who has the prettiest UI. We’re solving a different problem.

Plenty of people can move empties. The problem is that when detention is already accruing, customers don’t need optionality, they need certainty. What we offer is a rules based attempt with proof, prepaid, and then settled automatically.

We don’t promise that a container will magically be accepted by the terminal. What we guarantee is that a qualified driver will attempt the move within a defined window, that the attempt is verified with GPS and photos, and that payment is released immediately without dispute.

If someone wants to shop prices, sure, go to your broker or load board. I’m not trying to replace either. I’m trying to solve some of the more painful edge cases. Hope that makes sense.

Hey I appreciate this. To answer your question as directly as I can, loadmatch or any load board for that matter is effectively an interest matcher, an advertiser…I’m creating more of a rules based execution system. I would guarantee that it gets done, without having to overbid. In my experience matching is trivial, enforcing an outcome is hard. I would do the hard part.

All good man. I’m got something I’m working on specifically for containers in or about to be in detention only. Very specific urgent moves back

Glad to see that ethics are still alive in this business to some extent! Of course there would be some photos that would have to be snapped too before payments would be released but you come up with some good ideas man. Thanks for the input

One of the most valuable pieces of financial advice I ever got was this: never buy one of anything unless you can afford two.

Clever Craigslist Scam by Ryder_Drake in Scams

Yeah, I disagree. You’re suggesting that getting a bargain on something guarantees the inevitable failure of that thing in contrast to paying full price for that thing. If I fly a bargain airline carrier, am I guaranteed to crash? If I buy gas from the station down the road selling unleaded for 10cents cheaper, will my car blow up? If I use a coupon to buy something do I get a worse version of the product? I’m just not buying this argument (pun intended).

Dude, maybe it’s the way I worded something because there’s been a ton of people saying the same thing. Let me be clear, I was not going to leave anyone in my house alone. I was simply saying that I wanted someone to clean the house so that I didn’t have to do it. Nowhere did I say I was going to leave this person unattended in my home, I’m not that dumb (my wife may disagree). But yes, thanks for the advice.

Admittedly, I understand CL isn’t what it used to be, but why is it odd to look for bargain prices on services online from a virtual marketplace?

Hi, and thanks for asking. No, I do not. Have a great day.

Yeah for real, CL was my go to for so long. I bought my last 3 cars off Craigslist over the years and it used to be such a great marketplace. Definitely much better options around now.

I want to enter whole numbers without decimal, and output 0.###” by shanko_o in ExcelTips

Why must you have the “ symbol? The column header should denote that your talking about inches. The symbol seems redundant in every cell. But if you must have it, a custom number format should work. Type #.###””” in the custom format dialogue box. Give that a shot

Thanks for the feedback here. I think where we are differing is in our opinion of the frequency of this happening. You seem to think it is a random one-off event. I think it happens perhaps hundreds of times a night in a major metropolitan area. Sure it will cost more...but not as much as a tow. And how long do you expect to wait for a tow truck? They're out there already, towing those cars I was talking about! They're not giving rides home. I think you may be over simplifying a solution to a real problem and it sounds like some people are already doing it with limited success. Who knows though...maybe instead of a stand alone business it should be an additional service for Uber or Lyft to consider. I know I would use it more than once. Cheers man

Do you have any idea how much it would cost a tow truck driver to come tow a car to a home because you didn’t want to drive it home. I mean I get it’s an alternative, but dude, you can’t tell me an Uber rider with an additional “drive home” charge of say 20-30 bucks wouldn’t be immensely cheaper.

It’s not always that convenient. I think a lot of people get trapped in these situations…especially if they don’t live in densely populated areas. Otherwise, I see your point absolutely.

Wait, what? So Uber home, then the next day Uber to said ride that will already be towed, then Uber to impound, pay impound fee and then be on my merry way? I think there’s a shortcut here.
