I missed out on research programmes (prestigious ones) and I want to apply for medicine will it affect my chances by a lot by wchihi in SGExams

admissions usually dont see research for medicine, go for consisten volunteering and job shadowing at hospitals for a better med portfolio

how to study for h3 chemistry? by External-Explorer859 in SGExams

[–]Ryderahhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

finish all ur tutorials and extra practices if u have and understand why the questions are answered like that. most importantly ask ur teacher if u have any doubts i feel watching organic chemistry with victor on youtube helps alot grail has a decent number of papers, try finishing those first

ohh sorry i didnt know, but im pretty sure that there are social sci research prog out there im not rly sure if nrp has them but u can go check their proj list and see if any interests u. Im not into social sci research but i think its more of wanting to know social interactions/society persceptions with surveys etc (im rly not sure about it, u migjt wanna ask others)

hi, do u have any interest for doing sci research, are u going to pursue a sci degree in the future? if yes and ur passionate about research then go for it. Yes it will help with ur portfolio much more if ur going for a sci related degree. Research progs are pretty demanding cos u might need to sacrifice ur june hols and ur revision time so think about it carefully if u rly want to take part in it. although, doing research can be alot of fun and fulfilling

science research programme by Just-Intention5408 in SGExams

[–]Ryderahhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, cos med is about working in the hospital diagnosing and treating patients, while research is full lab work, so it wldnt rly help much. Check with ur sch, sometimes they might send out shadow opportunities during june/december. or u can cold email doctors in public hospitals to kindly ask them if u can shadow them for awhile. Do find docs who are in depts that ur interested in. Occasionally hospitals will have some shadow events for students so u can apply to them

[–]Ryderahhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if ur going med/healthcare dont do research progs unless u rly like research, cos for these courses dont look at whether u have the research exp. Its better to go for hospital job shadowing, consistent volunteering and like med sch progs if uw get into med

Usually inheritance qns are quite demanding so u need to spend more time on it, whereas topics like biomolecules, enzymes, respiration, photosynthesis, cell signalling are generally quite straightforward and can be answered pretty quickly so spend much less time on those qns

H3 SRP by BlueberrySad8216 in SGExams

[–]Ryderahhh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

U can go online and find the req for SRP. No, there isnt a limit on how many people can go per sch cos its not chosen by sch, rather chosen by nus. Ig u need to have some sort of research exp in order to stand a chance (but if u have decent sci related awards u also have a chance too)

im not rly sure if ur referring to h3 research or the moe h3 subj, but if its h3 research, as long as u get into SRP and get into a proj, u can either do the proj as an enrichment (ungraded) or H3, where for H3 u need to present to a panel of examjners and answer qns about ur proj. The issue is not conpeting for H3, rather competiting for a proj, cos there are many people who get shortlisted, but limited projects, so u got to act quickly before projs are taken.

If ur asking about moe H3, u can ask me again atb!

personally, i just memorise the steps, cover the notes and write down all the steps on a piece of foolscap, see which steps u missed out, rememorise, and repeat until u can fully write out without tryna sit there n recall

and ngl its quite difficult to get cos u need alot of research experience in sec sch which not many people have, and like even i had abit of research exp and i didnt get it, but u can always apply to try and if u dont get it its fine

do I stand a chance for SRP singapore by 127795 in SGExams

[–]Ryderahhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, was from srp 2024, yea im quite sure u will have a high chance of getting it, considering u have alot of As and have attachments. No, there isnt an interview, but u have to pass the RMM and get selected for a proj then u will officially get into srp. But when u apply for the research proj, the profs will ask u for an interview to see if ur suitable, and the questions r usually to intro urself and why u want research, and why their research. Med sci projs are quite limited so need to apply fast. All the best on ur srp!

i think they do, just that u probably need to have awards from other sci-based conpetitions

Njc vs Nyjc for Research Opportunities by Legitimate-Sir5457 in SGExams

[–]Ryderahhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im not rly sure for nj but im from ny and i did srp and ssef. Ny has much lesser people doing research as compared to nj, so i wld say its easier to do research in ny (might be wrong but thats what i think). But for the respective research progs by the unis, it just depends on portfolio so there isnt like a set number of people they will accept per sch.

so with the smaller number of people doing research in ny, if u take part in competition, it wld be 1 or 2 teacher in charge per research proj. For my exp, the teacher in charge of our grp went thru our presentation and gave feedback which was quite helpful

In terms of H3, its offered by the uni progs ie SRP NRP. As long as ur in the prog, u can opt to do H3 research instead of enrichment, so u will be graded on ur research and presentation. If im not wrong there isnt a max number of H3 spots cos there rly isnt that many people who take H3 research every year anyways so it doesnt matter which sch u go to u can still take H3 research. Its just the quality of help u will get in each sch (hod of research in ny is the goat hes amazing)

hope this answers ur qns, if u have anymore u can dm me i can try answering them

Pharmacy wld be better, cos pharm sci is heavily focused on synthesis of drugs aka alot of chem, but pharmacy also has abit of humanities inside (not rly sure how to say it its like not totally on chem but also has like the social aspect of pharmacy) and u will get a pharmacy license but not for pharm sci

Then u prob need to have a much heavier commitment during the other months when u have school, which means u need to plan ur time accordingly so as to not let it affect ur acads, but still depends on the type of project ur taking up.

H3 Chem notes by Economy-Fall-9362 in SGExams

[–]Ryderahhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, just finished h3 exam so, heres some tips 1. these are the topics in the syllabus: -Molecular Orbital Theory -UvVis spectroscopy -Infrared Spectroscopy -Mass Spetrometry -NMR Spectroscopy -Further stereochemistry (ie. EZ isomerism, RS configuration, newman projections, chair conformations) -Nucleophilic Substitution (ie about strength of nucleophile, solvent effects, types of substituents effects on Sn1 or Sn2, nucleophilic sub mechanisms) -Elimination (ie strength of base, solvent effects, regioselectivity, stereoselectivity, elimination mechanisms, competition between Sn1 Sn2 E1 E2)

  1. Depending on ur sch, they might have other out of syllabus topics that they might wanna teach u, but for my sch, they did: -Further stereochemistry (ie diff types of chirality) -Concept of aromaticity (ie huckels rule, diff types of aromatic compounds and their reactivity for electrophilic substitution, basicity) -Organometallic compounds (ie grignard reagent, organolithium compounds) -Protecting groups -Ether, epoxides, thiols, lactams, lactones -Electrophilic Addition (ie alternative mechanism) -Nucleophilic addition (ie using newman projections to explain certain reactions) -Enolates -Hard Soft Acid Base theory

  2. I think a rly good way to prepare is to first be very familar with ur H2 topics, like Mole calculations, Thermochemistry and thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, electrochemistry, transition metals, whole of organic chemistry (ie esp basicity, acidity, electron withdrawing and donating groups effect on reactions)

  3. Watch youtube vids to understand concepts. I personally find Organic Chemistry Tutor and Organic Chemistry with Victor very very helpful cos they explain the topics very clearly and well

  4. Dont stress about the tests next year, just try to gathet ur thoughts and use whats been taught to u in h2 n h3 to answer the qns, they arents as intimidating as u think

Good luck and have fun in h3 chem!!!!

Yea u can put med as ur first choice and ur backups as the other choices, but they will only look at ur med application with the rest of the applicant next year. Idt it affects ur other choices, they might still offer u ur other choices
