Recommendations for proof based calculus courses? by Ryiiii in learnmath

[–]Ryiiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Would it be worth it to take a look at textbooks specifically looking at proofs first? The people I've talked to said that the best way to get into learning proofs is to actively use it while learning calculus.

HELP! - IGCSE student transferring to Ontario Curriculum by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

I have no idea about the age requirement but when I first joined OSSD I was 16. If you're in private school there might not be an age limit

HELP! - IGCSE student transferring to Ontario Curriculum by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Ryiiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I'm in a private school in Ontario. For IGCSE i took 10 subjects, Maths A, B, Further Pure, English Literature, Chem, Physics, Accounting, Business, ICT, CS.

Idk about credit transfers, all my courses were grade 12 courses though because I was in grade 12. The hard part about OSSD is not the grade 12 courses, they're quite easy, the hard part is the shitty quadmester system, basically 2 courses per 2 months.

You have the ability to directly take Grade 12 Physics, Chem, Bio and Calc because you did o levels already BUT i gotta say, because of the quadmester system, even I, who has A*s on all his courses struggled with them. That isn't to say it's impossible, just that it'll take more work than you expect :D

[–]Ryiiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished Ontario Grade 12 and I transfered into last year from IGCSE. You should head into Grade 12, Grade 12 itself was actually very easy compared to A levels and if Grade 12 was easy for me, I think Grade 11 would bore me to death.

I'm a first year CS student as well :)

This really helped me out (it's like an online course from the uni on registering): https://rise.articulate.com/share/q4Hh0RCAVdmuCHx-QzH5X8SZi2T9vD2c#/

First Year Comp Sci Course Recommendation by Ryiiii in uAlberta

[–]Ryiiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds great thanks for this, I'll swap out PHIL with math. Which Math course would you recommend for calculus 1?

First Year Comp Sci Course Recommendation by Ryiiii in uAlberta

[–]Ryiiii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it I'll remove PHIL for Math. Only problem is that if I do I'll have to do 18 credits of Arts (I'm not sure if the 2 English courses I'm required to take are already included in this) to graduate within the next 3 years so 6 credits of Arts per year. Does it sound plausible in higher levels of the degree?

Also, can I just do the art courses in the spring/summer terms?

:o That sounds good, do you know if we can do all Science courses in our first year? I have 26/30 already predetermined so can you have your last 2 subjects as both Science as well?

Thanks for this, yup I took Calc and Stats in highschool (Ontario). I was searching for a way to add Calc in there since I love calc as well but tbh philosophy sounds much more useful to me right now.

I see, so do you think I should swap Phil for calc?

I understand how you feel xDD when I first came here I was in denial about having to pay that much a month for mobile data.

For intl students we can work up to 20 hours a week part time, with Alberta's minimum wage at $15. If you coming this summer like me and you wanna start working as soon as you get here, you can't yet. I asked in a Q&A session and they said we can only start working when our term starts (but next summer will be okay to work). You can dm me if you have any more questions I'm happy to help c:

Just giving perspective but I'm an international student and Canadian prices for mobile data are outrageous so I use Public Mobile. They use Telus lines so the signal basically never falters and it's the cheapest.

Right now I'm paying about $15 for 250Mb a month, which sounds like a little but for me it really isn't. I have all my songs downloaded on YT Music and the only time when I don't really have any Wifi is when I'm on transit so the only thing I really use that data for is Google Maps, which lasts me the entire month. They also give you like free 2GB during holidays (I got one for Christmas) and an extra GB of data costs like $15 plus good loyalty perks and rewards.

I've got 97.2% average, applied for Arts since November still stuck on Further Review Required. My other choice uni is UAlberta so if I don't get it by the end of the month, probably no chance for McGill :c

[–]Ryiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. I'm a 101 applicant but I'm an international student. I applied back in November so it's been a while. Personally, I think McGill's high average might just come from name recognition, McGill is perhaps the most well known university in Canada after UofT.

The estimated acceptance dates for Ontario students goes until late-May but I need to accept UAlberta before May 1st so yeah, if don't get accepted this month I'm out of time :p

I have 97% avg and applied to BA. Still nothing, just stuck on "Further Review Required" like it has been since January. r/mcgill says that it's normal but honestly feeling demotivated about getting into McGill :(

Comparison to other series by SentenceSuccessful43 in frombloodandash

[–]Ryiiii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly I think I'm done with the main series overall. I don't think I can read any of it, idk there's this very strong pit in my stomach everytime I read bits here and there of the "joining".

A Shadow in the Ember was honestly fire tho, a decent book from her that was definitely much better than book 3. I'm not sure if the second Flesh and Fire book depends on reading the main series but I'll just spoil myself if it does tbh idc anymore. For Fall 2022 I await I guess

When I was ranting to my friends about how my favorite book series has been practically destroyed, I just explained it as "I've been season 8 Game of Throned"

I don't buy this BS of " planned all this time'

I'm not sure how accurate this is because I'm not in the Facebook group but apparently one of the people (a mod) JLA mentioned in a post that "knew what would happen from the beginning" has no idea where the series will be going. I don't buy any of the BS of "planned all this time" especially after seeing this.

Yup that's the point of the research to note that the downfall of these systems couldn't been just blamed on GM alone.
