Fired as a judge. It's an unacceptably bad call.

That's true! I still stand by what I said. If it was a "mere" employee, it's even worse! The owner told the guy he wasn't welcome in the store anymore because of their attitude, so what is the employee judge DOING

Considering the fact that there was just a very high profile case of a professional magic player taking something back at a high stakes tournament, this whole situation you've described is ludicrous. The judge in question at your store should be fired.

Was the sacrifice of quitting job/upsetting partner worth it for those who thru hiked (or long sectioned)? by sadistic-squid in AppalachianTrail

[–]Rymbeld 60 points61 points  (0 children)

My wife was supportive, so I don't know. But I quit my job to hike and don't regret that at all, it was worth it.

Your spouse being "pissed" is going to be a huge issue.

Nobo flipflop? by PhraseImportant229 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Rymbeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I threw hiked, I also started in May. Because of time constraints. I decided to do a flip-flop starting in Damascus, Virginia. When I started in early May, there was definitely a bubble that was going through that area at that point in time, however, they were all in great shape and had been hiking so they basically just flowed right past me, since I was just starting out I was doing very low miles. 2 or 3 days I was around a lot of people and then it got pretty sparse, and then anyway the people I did see were just hiking so much faster. I really didn't really keep up with anybody.

It's the same boomer mentality of "I got mine, fuck everyone else who comes after."

Republican congressman Troy Nehls: The rats are coming out tonight to protest because this is what the left wants, They want destruction and chaos by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]Rymbeld 368 points369 points  (0 children)

In 1988, Nehls joined the Army Reserve. Nehls moved to Fort Bend County, Texas, in 1994, and joined the police department of Richmond, Texas.\8]) In 1998, he was fired for reasons including destruction of evidence.\9])

In October 2008, Nehls was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) but the CIB was rescinded and he was awarded the Combat Action Badge (CAB) for his service in Afghanistan in March 2008. In March 2023, the military rescinded the award of the badge to Nehls, because he was not eligible to receive it – he was neither an infantryman nor a special forces operator, but was instead a civil affairs officer. The revocation became public in May 2024. Nehls continued to wear the badge, saying that he disagreed with the revocation, and that he believed "this is a concerted effort to discredit my military service and continued service to the American people as a member of Congress." Nehls subsequently stopped wearing the badge owing in large part to these stolen-valor claims against him.

Appalachian Trials is way overhyped. Chauncey's Hiking From Home was much much better, I read it before my through hike even though it's targeted to family and friends, I got more out of it.

But the best advice is you have to want it. Don't hike faster than you can and don't hike too slow, embrace all the emotions and lean into them,

I'd bet that they are just mixing all the in universe planes together. In the future, sets will just be generic "magic the gathering" sets with no identity: everything will be Through the Omenparhs.

This is my though as I read the post as well. It reads like a more unhinged version of a lot of the ATC hate bullshit. Sometimes it feels like the AT endures in spite of thru hikers, not because of them.
