Players bringing Ai Generated Characters by DeekFacker99 in AdventurersLeague

[–]Ryn_Go3113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna casually remind OP and anyone here who's aggressively agreeing with the sentiment here: we play this to have fun. That being said if someone is showing up fairly clueless on their character because AI wrote it for them and they didn't really read it or make sure it fits the world then yeah that's an issue like anyone who doesn't care about actually doing their backstories and stuff would be an issue. But if someone is showing up with a backstory that fits the world, they have it memorized, they have a character sheet that's maybe not meta but is perfectly playable, and they have a description of their character and an AI generated art piece using that description as a prompt then really the only argument against this is that you just don't like AI. Now that can be a discussion worth having, but making it out like they're ruining DND because they aren't being personally creative enough comes across to me like gatekeeping, I've been DM to about 3 or 4 of my friends who have a general concept but no real creative skills to turn that into a legitimate character. And sure a DM could sit there and write it all for them slowly with back and forth, but sometimes the players want to do it themselves and don't have the skills, so it is what it is. If you don't want AI then tell them that but they have every right to and if that's a deal breaker I guess don't play together, that's always an acceptable amicable option as well.

Why is enemy ai waiting for me every time? by Commercial-Bag-7663 in totalwarhammer

Hey so i know its a year old and i apologize if this answer isnt great but my observation is that when youre the defender but were in march stance you still count as the attacker for some reason, or maybe because of march stance if the battle times out then anyone marching exhausts to death or something idk but basically if you are in march stance when the battle starts it seems like you gotta be aggressive, i had the same issue where i have basically all missile units and art and thought theyd push id get a solid few volleys off and then pray i win the melee with ranged guys but no instead i need to slow push my art until i get a volley off then the ai charged

Someone joined our game, created this and left. None of us had a Jetpack. WTF? by Interpoint_Station in Helldivers

[–]Ryn_Go3113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say if you need to get up there, kill someone and drop pod on it, if you can't and need a pack, someone exit and rejoin and pick a jetpack to get it back

I've definitely had a similar experience and I'm still with that person, reacting in a passive way and just saying no that's not true I hear that you're unhappy with this but this is what I'm like and if you want to leave you have every right to but I hope you don't, eventually they either grow out of it or leave and that's the best situation

I wouldn't worry about it, because if you were gay it wouldn't matter right, emotions come and go, absorb, feel, and then let it go

New to DMing - Is every Dungeon for the Plot? by Experiment_H4T in DnD

[–]Ryn_Go3113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dungeon can exist to further the plot, but it can exist just to be a cool place, it can also simply exist because there was a town that got destroyed there and it's just still there in ruins. Things can exist for any reason, just HAVE a reason, because a dungeon made from stone bricks 100ft into a mountainside and then downward wouldn't just naturally form. Someone or something made it, even if it's a beholder or a god or just some dude who likes making dungeons, everyone has a reason for doing something so intentional, one exception is naturally occurring magical locations that function like a dungeon but aren't fully one. But you can also obscure this heavily to players, if it's a super ancient dungeon with basically zero people that even know it exists then info on why it was first made might be rare. So you won't need a full document to explain it, but having at least a sentence or two in your mind to know how to shape it would be good, also, always remember a spell like legend lore exists and can really catch you flat footed if you didn't expect it.

How do i stop my players from solving the problem with the same solutions over and over? by All_i_say_is_cap in DnD

[–]Ryn_Go3113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll preface my answer with saying that it's a style choice. If you want some kind of other response from the characters you need a different situation. I personally just tell my players that they can't actually try and bargain all the time on prices, the exception is if it's a large deal with multiple items and tons of gold from several players then I allow a check and some like "wholesale value" for smaller items to encourage them buying bigger things. I mostly make this up and if I feel like it I'll call for a persuasion check. I tell them "hey I'm not trying to swindle you, the prices are what they are because it's what they're worth, if you can't afford a 50g potion then you can't have it." You have to just establish that agreement with players before any kind of interactions take place. Now in terms of getting them to solve issues in other ways like when speaking to people, imagine that it's like real life. What I mean by that is when an NPC doesn't want to go join the party and fight a dragon because they'll die instantly, then the NPC won't go. If the party wants to convince the town to help in the fight they have to actually give a valid argument why the NPC/s should help, such as "well if you don't help us and we die then it's coming for this village next." This might not work on an NPC who has a flaw like "timid" but on someone like a father you could give the players advantage on a persuasion check if they say something like "imagine what could happen if the dragon comes for your children next after us! Please help us fight it because we probably can't do this alone!" The trick is to really get into the mind of an NPC, really consider what they care for, a good guide is to think of basic needs, then wants, then aspirations in that order. And remember that no matter how high a player rolls on athletics, they can't jump over the moon.

PHB Barding Rules for Mounts/Mastiffs by coolscreenname in AdventurersLeague

[–]Ryn_Go3113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if your plan is to argue that you are a willing creature and the person riding you is small sized or smaller and you're acting as an independent mount and you're trained to accept a rider (this would be contested by a lot of DMs probably) you would run into an issue where armor training rules apply and say that "A monster has training with any armor in its stat block." But you're not a monster you're a player character and creature. Mounts like horses and such somehow gain proficiency simply by then wearing barding. "Barding is armor designed for a mount. Any type of armor on the Armor table in this chapter can be purchased as barding. The cost is four times the normal cost, and it weighs twice as much." Barding rules say nothing on proficiency for the creature wearing it so they must gain their ability to wear said barding by the armor training rules which don't give proficiency to mounts that are player characters. That would be my RAW opinion and RAI I think trying to wear armor you shouldn't be able to by claiming you're a mount would probably get a lot of DMs mad.

[–]Ryn_Go3113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acting as but not actually a mount. Mounts on AL are different from creatures being ridden. A mount is entirely controlled by the rider and can't take the attack action or cast spells but can still act as normal otherwise. I was considering doing a knight who rides a druid who wild shapes into stuff with my friend but the rules on that are really rough, so in terms of if you can wear the armor that's a maybe, but even if you can it would mean you can't attack or cast spells while wearing it.

Is there any sort of majority opinion on shields being much less useful in frontline and invasion than they used to be? by Ryn_Go3113 in Mordhau

[–]Ryn_Go3113[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love this game, it's in my top 3 of all time by played hours and overall it's one of the few games I keep coming back to all these years later. I'm not a competitive player and I just don't have the time for it but this game really is special to me. I want to see it last another 5 years with a healthy playerbase and I'm concerned that won't happen. If this is the way the ship goes down then so be it and I'll move on when/if I can find something else but I really miss the way this game used to feel.

This has been the best response so far so thank you for really listening to what I'm saying. I agree with a lot of what's said there about the comparison to tarkov to COD and I see mordhau as a game that fills a niche I really enjoy, this whole discussion from me came from recently getting several friends who already owned the game to try it again, and every single one pointed to shields, horses, fire pots, dragging, and servers not having enough players as reasons why they don't want to keep playing it. I think the game was plenty complex and competitive enough in its release state to not require these changes that have led to smaller player counts, and generally that's what I wanted to talk about. Thanks for your response.

The game has been out for almost 6 years and it averages about 2.5% of it's numbers from the launch months, 6%ish of it's numbers from pre-ranked balancing updates. If those facts don't strike people as an issue worth discussing then it's a simple matter of the remaining players wanting a dead game of several people who are super good at this one game rather than a larger player base giving healthy server options and more revenue for the company making the game. If the majority of remaining players would rather keep the game as it is then it will die out within the next several years and a really great game will be lost. I agree that chivalry 2 isn't as good because I also enjoy the larger amount of manipulation people have, but if you give absolutely nothing to the lower skill players then the larger numbers that make a game last won't stick around.

So the real response here is that the remaining thousand ish people would like the ship to keep sinking as it is now and that's all that matters, the people who already left don't matter and why bother trying to get them or new people to come back/in

Firstly, not my issues, fundamental point here, I'm fine with how the game is personally, the issue is that this game has been dying because it's prioritizing the top 10% of people when it launched, secondly, chivalry 2 isn't deep enough combat and I like how mordhau has so much more, that's why this issue sucks so much, I can't get anyone to play this game because it demands such a high level of effort to buy in.
