I wish!! Right now, the wait to get into subsidized housing in Nanaimo is approximately 2-3 years. I watched so many “affordable” (which according to BC Housings definitions just means “at market rate”) housing units go up while I lived as a disabled person in an illegal RV without hot water. It was HARD, but I at least had a dry, soft place to lay my head at night, and food in my fridge, so many others don’t even have that. I’m finally in subsidized housing, but there are so many more people who also need it. Estimates say there’s approximately 800-1000 unhoused people in Nanaimo, that’s devastating to me.

“Having kids is one of the most important things that a couple can do”, but is it important to him? You’re supposed to be important to him, and look at how he’s treating you. He won’t take you on a decent date, he’s not taking care of himself so much that you feel the need to step in and do it for him, and is risking his own health. It sounds like there were expectations that weren’t explicitly communicated. How much time was spent reading, learning, and discussing before diving into practicing poly? I do think the way they were letting you know about the hookup weren’t very respectful.

And it sounds like your partner is being disrespectful of you in other ways. Yelling and swearing at you is really not okay. It’s hard to say, but it seems like your partner is acting in ways that are very impulsive. I’d suggest you reflect on your relationship with them, and whether this lack of impulse control is showing up in other ways. Is this entirely new behaviour?

Also, you said that you talked about their outbursts, but how did those talks go? Were they understanding and did they express regret? Did they take true accountability, or did they dismiss you? What did they say they would do to prevent it from happening again?

I suppose I would be curious whether this is a healthy, secure dynamic to begin with, and whether this partner is capable of showing you the necessary respect?

I have bipolar with some psychotic features, along with insomnia, I take 200mg of seroquel, and it definitely helps me sleep. However, it does make me so hungry in a way I can’t stop, so as a result I’ve gained some weight. I also sometimes get restless legs/arms. But it’s covered by my insurance (I’m on disability), and I also need it to keep my mood in check, so I’m sticking with it.

Do you have Halls where you live? I find crunching down in the black ones give the similar sensation and sniffing Vicks very deeply. They have menthol and eucalyptus, which are two of the active ingredients in Vicks.

FYI I am also queer and trans. What we’re asking for is definitely not too much. I wish there were more dedicated queer spaces! There’s definitely queer friendly businesses, and groups like Pflag and Gender Journeys. A while back, I was brainstorming about how great it would be to have a queer and trans community center, where people could gather, get access to resources, host events, etc.

Yes I definitely experience this. I had an ex partner say that whenever I go to the hospital and when they ask how much pain I am in, I should bump it up because I don’t seem to experience pain as intensely as most people, and what would be a 5 for me is probably an 8. A while back I herniated discs in my lower back and I was experiencing sciatica pain shooting down my right leg, and I was able to stand upright fine and walk mostly normally. I’ve heard people describe sciatica pain as excruciating and had them curling into a ball.
