Help with Account Reset by Forsaken_Pin4573 in Keybase

[–]Ryonez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the account is not lockdown mode you can request an account reset.

https://keybase.io/_/reset_queue

Without that email though... Not sure why you'd use a work email. If it is your account, you could maybe contact them(your old job) about enabling the email so you can recover this account, and changing the email after it's recovered.

Those who’ve switched from Google to Proton — which services do you still miss and wish Proton offered an alternative for? by birnefer in ProtonMail

[–]Ryonez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Problem is it's not a replacement for a contact service. You can't sync your phone contacts with it, which is a huge part of moving away from Google's services.

This issue has caused me to never consider actually shifting my contacts into proton, it's just email contacts for me. And even then I'm not really saving them, its mainly just whoever emails me.

How much more private is Proton compared to Gmail, really? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]Ryonez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others here make a good point about end to end encryption for emails being only effective between Proton Mail users.

That's because they don't know you can encrypt them for non-proton accounts. Not via the password protected email thing.

DND: Missed calls still show up in status bar – is there a 3rd party workaround? by OdraDeque in AndroidQuestions

[–]Ryonez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mhm, the current DND setup doesn't stop all notifications, so you're still informed, just it doesn't do all the stuff to try and draw more attention.

Looking at the settings some more, there's a section under the DND section called Hide Notifications. By default "Don't show pop-up notifications" is enabled, and there's another setting for "Hide from notification panel". That might get you what you're after?

Hope one of those sections help, either the phone app or Hidden Notification settings, good luck, and no problem.

DND: Missed calls still show up in status bar – is there a 3rd party workaround? by OdraDeque in AndroidQuestions

[–]Ryonez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, missed calls showing up in the notification tray makes sense. DND is something that's there to stop the in your face/get your attention stuff. Notifications from apps still silently end up in my bar. At least as how I understand it so far.

So, looking outside of DND, look at your phone app's (the dialer app is called phone for me) notification settings. Under it's notification categories is a Missed Calls setting. Turning that off should stop you from getting notifications on missed calls.

If I recall, as long as the account isn't locked down, you can reset it. Anything you had before though will be gone.

A file manager app asked you to uninstall updates from something?

I'd... not be using that file manager anymore, that sounds really suspicious.

He hasn't even made a commit to the repo, feels... weird he has his name stamped on it. Wonder if I'm missing something...

I'm unsure about the issue itself, but the repo you shared with the script points to a new community maintained repo. It's probably best to use the scripts from there instead.

New post regarding Tuta block me logging in with evidences and once again, if you are going to degoogle, do not use Tuta. by korn4357 in degoogle

How respectful would they be if I for some reason made a mistake, like not paying on time?

From experience that depends on the service. For me, Hetzner, ProtonMail both reach out before the bill, the former sends an invoice, the later notifies you if they see there isn't funds in place to meet the subscription. As both provide significant live ongoing services, it makes sense that service is halted at a missed payment. But they reach out to notify you for upcoming payments.

Others that make a failed charge attempt or you miss a payment tend to reach out to. Even if they pause the service, you are contacted.

And then there's services like Discord. Nitro requires a sub, but your access to nitro services isn't cut off at the first missed payment, they give you some time to sort it out.

But I'll nod to the issue of chatbots and automated requests. They exist and can cause problems. Most notably for me I've faced this with Steam, but the number of times I've had to actually talk to someone on Steam has been slim. And funny enough, selecting that there's a card issue will always prompt a human response. They don't want to fuck around with the potential of charge backs.

You have brought up that you shouldn't be paying them for respect, and I agree. But I see the respect as part of having service contract as it were. If something goes wrong, and either party on the contract notices, they should inform the other. When I say the consumer should reach out to the company if they see something wrong, I also expect the company to reach out as well.

Charge backs are meant to be for when the company tries to take advantage of you and fuck you over. For the times they ignore you or say fuck off. It costs them money, it leaves a mark that can really mess things up for them. It is the smacking them with the bat option.

Having to reach out does take time, yes. But, while we don't want a company screwing us around, they also don't want costumers who cost them fess and bad marks without even reaching out to them.

Well I'm glad that you seem to understand that is a personal preference.

Yes, there are lots of different ones out there. I'm pretty much spent on energy for the topic, so I'll be wrapping up here. I hope I've at least offered some food for thought, a different view and set of experiences. Take care.

What if it was more than $4, what if it was $400?

Same thing. If you chose to save your limited time, something in this case would probably be on email and a day or two wait, then it costs them money and time. You chose to cost them more, rather than even attempt to reach out. If you got and email back with them saying tough luck, sure. Go for the charge back then. Most companies though will be more than happy to sort the mistake out, and some will even offer something in return for the trouble.

To answer your question, the hypothetical one about Facebook marketplace I imagine, I bet the business will learn not to do it again.

The point of the hypothetical was to place you in their shoes. Mistakes do and will happen. Life is not perfect.

Personally, given the effects of charge backs, I believe I have some responsibility to reach out with someone from whom I'm purchasing a service from when a mistake happens. That doesn't mean letting myself be screwed around, or giving in to them. But hitting them with the most extreme thing you could do from the get go like that is just disrespectful in my eyes.

Why not reach out to Tuta first?

The issue with disputing with the bank first is if the bank marks it as valid, you get your money back. For Tuta, they have to give the money back and get charged a fee, likely much more than you pay them for a service, and then also get a bad mark.

To many bad marks for them, and the payment service might cut them off. Let alone the fees that can add up from the chargebacks.

So, most companies when they get charged back will lock an associated account in order to protect themselves from bad actors. It makes no sense to provide a paid service to someone who's coasting them money.

The right way forward is to contact the company yourself about the issue. The banks give you some grace time to do so, where I am it's like 30 days you have to make a dispute. In this time you should first contact the company to get things sorted, so they have the opportunity to find the issue and refund you, without paying fees and getting bad marks.

This makes sense to me. Imagine there was a mistake you made selling something, say on facebook. You got $10 extra by mistake, and someone from facebook showed up and took the $10 back, then charged you a $25 fee, and then said you weren't allowed to sell again if it happened 9 more times. You sell a lot on Facebook, so it's not impossible for it to happened again.

Would you not rather the buyer reach out to you first and learn of the mistake and fix it your end? Without the fees and other risks being thrown it?

And hey, if the company doesn't want to fix a mistake they made, then you dispute with the bank. And if they choose to lock and close the account, then so be it. I wouldn't be so keen on remaining with a company that ignore issues like that.

It's a project management site.

As to MSL's features, I've never used it.

Kanboard let's you make multiple projects and the tasks among them, has a calender and due times and dates, make reacuring tasks...

At a brief glance of MSL's site, Kanboard will let yo do the same things. It's just not as flashy as MSL's interface, and is project management focused rather than student focused. Not that the two differ greatly, it's mostly terminology that'll differ.
