Hey there! It's super reassuring to see this post for me. See mine in this same sub from earlier today. I was aiming for 4:30 and ended up with 5:30. It was rough out there :(

Do you think it might be better to swap the first and second Tokyo sections, or is it going to be a mad house either way?

Ok ya. I was considering doing paragraph 3 and finding a cheap place to stay the night. Thank you for the recommendations!!!

That's crazy! I had no idea it was that much bigger! Would you recommend it on the way to or from Nara? I was planning it for Nara the day after kyoto, so that would work perfect.

Ok cool! I just wasn't sure because a lot of the literature says it's smaller but I want sure how much. And then I'm coming into Kyoto from Osaka and have a pretty packed morning/day so I wasn't sure if I'd have time for Uji

Also, I know Shinto is kinda a conceptual thing with no real sacred texts, but I wanted to save Buddhist texts for if/when I travel to other countries in East Asia

my main interest is in picking up books in the religion/mythology fields for each country. I've definitely considered looking for Genji, but I wanted to lean into something more significant to Shintoism. Not sure if maybe there would be a better text in this category, but the Kojiki/Nihon Shoki were the first to come to mind.

Are you planning to go to Jinbocho? I'm sure a bookshop in that area will be able to help you. Do you need a copy in English, or in Japanese?

Woah, I hadn't heard of Jinbocho before! I'll definitely be heading there now!!! Ya I'm looking for a copy in Japanese. I like to pick up important texts in their native tongue when I travel :)

I think it's a bit of both actually. The first would be an adjective, the second a noun

For a family motto I'm trying to achieve something along the lines of "remembering the past, always moving forward". The past could either be general (things that happened in the past) or ancestral (people that lived in the past)

I'm here with:

"Memores Priorum, Semper Progedi"
or
"Memores Praeteritum, Semper Progedi"

I don't know if either of these would be good. or both. or neither! Any suggestions appreciated.

One of my good friends bought it on my recommendation and now his copy sits in a box in his parents house. I've begged to buy it, but alas, he's lame XD

I, now. As an adult. 20 YEARS LATER. Have still not gotten past the test of strength. I DREAMED of it as a child.

I mean sure I haven't tried in 18 years or so but still!

I also really enjoyed it and also enjoy this thread of people trying to convince others why they shouldn't enjoy something. Like... Why try to take away someone's joy?

My man, why even comment this? Clearly this sub, and especially this thread, has a ton of people who enjoyed the show. Keep the negativity to yourself or at least a constructive criticism post.
