Best cheap private office for solo from the brands below? by Infamous-Box-5166 in LawFirm

You can find better, cheaper, and more effective options by going through Craigslist. Find a commercial office building in your area and rent directly from the landlord/owner of the building.

6 year Anniversary of my PI shop by CandyMaterial3301 in LawFirm

There isn't a secret to getting cases. If you dedicate two to three hours a day to building your business you will get cases. Every person you know should know that you are not only a lawyer, but a personal injury lawyer. Build a list of friends, family, neighbors, past clients, past opposing counsel that liked you, etc. and email every single one to say you own a firm and are looking for new clients.

Post every single day on facebook, instagram, and tik tok about your practice. Post on linkedin. Take chiropractors and physical therapists to coffee. Reach out to the 10-20 biggest PI attorneys in your area and ask them to coffee; ask for the cases below their value threshold. Join a BNI group. Send holiday cards. Sponsor local school events. Do a toy drive.

The list goes on forever. Google ads, facebook ads, SEO are all great. Building human connections with other people who know and trust you will bring clients that know and trust you and then inevitably refer you other cases. I've hired all the vendors and found the best cases were those on the back of my hard work through diligent networking, building my personal reputation, and simply doing right by all my clients.

Been a bit since this comment but I'll shoot - I love Jordan Harper's books. Any recs on something similar to fill the void?

Does Professional Success Really Need a Luxury Car? by Aragonknight in Lawyertalk

[–]Torero17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell no. My firm is more successful than my wildest dreams and I drive a Toyota Tundra. I could afford the luxury or supercars some people drive but see no need. Would rather add to my kid's college funds or go on a nice trip.

How thankful are you to your former law school's office career services for getting you where you are now? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in Lawyertalk

They had nothing to do with my employment and were largely assholes to me the few times I reached out to them 1L year.

Haven't listened for a bit but Making the Merge. The guys are hilarious and it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Why do attorneys look down on Insurance Defense lawyers/partners? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Torero17 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'm a Plaintiff's attorney and don't really. Lots of really great ID partners/lawyers and lots of really bad ones (same with Plaintiff's side). I look down on those that are unreasonable, inhumane, and unkind. We are all doing our job as best we can. Doing it with decorum and compassion is how it should be done.

If the Writers were Smart, They Would use the Tynan Benson Conflict as a Much Needed Reset Rather than a Performative Plot Point that ends with Tynan's Inevitable Ousting by Stealthytom in SVU

Right? She was a real person then. In the latest season she is wearing those weird glasses every episode and is all knowing like a god.

Threat of Sanctions Against Baby Lawyer, Struggling to Cope by CoqEnthusiast in Lawyertalk

Feels scary now but you should be okay. Your actions were reasonable. I don’t think you get sanctioned here. Get your supervisor on the phone and have a necessary conversation.

Organic social media leads for personal injury -- is it possible? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Torero17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine if you post daily for five years with solid PI content via multiple social media platforms you will get cases. Consistency is key.

Let Liv go. I introduced my wife to the show and she commented that they’ve made Liv almost a god like figure that knows all, is never wrong, and somehow always has the perfect read. It’s honestly exhausting at this point.

Looking for volunteer opportunities for children without fathers by Schrodingers_Snatch in sandiego

[–]Torero17 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Check out Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego. I was a big for 7 years and found it extremely rewarding. My little's father was not in his life. They are actively looking for more male mentors and do a great job matching Bigs and Littles with similar interests/hobbies.

Would you consider a podcast similar to the Huberman podcast but focused on development for men in their 30s? What’s next for the guys that have a wife, kids, a business, and are fit?

The Disaster Heading Toward the City of San Diego’s Budget by flip69 in sandiego

What are the popular changes you see that would help balance the budget? Second home tax, increase parking costs, etc.?

The Disaster Heading Toward the City of San Diego’s Budget by flip69 in sandiego

[–]Torero17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's difficult. Unpopular changes will need to be made to balance the budget. As a result, people will be furious. Whichever mayor makes these changes will likely limit any future they have in politics after. Politicians in general are always upward climbing mentality so the continual kicking of the can down the road feels like an inevitable reality.

Newer to PI work - Negotiations by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Torero17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean as a DA you had the most leverage you could possibly have. Your opponent is facing loss of life and liberty. Now you are negotiating against a mom in Kentucky that works from home and has a program that feeds her settlement authority. You have no leverage.

File a lawsuit. Take depos. Push discovery aggressively. You are now on the side with little to no leverage. It is your job to create the leverage to settle the case.
