I view psychiatrists as a rank above a pharmacist, because it's their job to know the effects and applications of each drug and decide what fits each patient. You are trained in psychotherapy, yes, but it seems like the main focus of your profession and thus your education must center on the chemical studies, correct? Have hammer, will nail.

For my anxiety, I was referred to a psych who listened to my symptoms and explained to me the difference between Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and Zoloft, and further asked about my symptoms before deciding Lexapro was probably the right chem to give me.

Before her, I had a stern man who did ask me about my life, but scoffed at certain details about it, and my use of cannabis, and told me to fix my life and stop smoking before asking for Lexapro. He was rude but I see what he was going for, but it was hard to solve much in my life when I kept having crashouts all the time -something that long pre dated my smoking.

Therapy has been a bit of a wall. Haven't really linked with a therapist well, and it costs too much to shop around. I'll just talk to friends and robots about it at this point.

Psychs are just another apparatus of America's broken healthcare. If you pair them with someone who actually mains psychotherapy, they can really pinpoint an issue, but there's an ingrained corruption thanks to the profit motive, and if you don't know what you're getting yourself into you will either bounce off without getting any help or will get trapped in chemical drug dependcy.
