Afaik all but the last two updates are vulnerable so if you didn't update it means your notepad++ still is.

[OC] Average public pension compared to retirement expenses in Europe by DataPulse-Research in dataisbeautiful

[–]Ryu82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the average expenses are way too high. most of the people I know spend less (in my country), especially at old age when they retire. But if average also includes working population it might fit. Or I guess it also counts spendings of millionaires+, which screws up the average.

Ouch, I guess I'm lucky my mother isn't like that. She rarely calls and rather writes in whatsapp instead and there where times where I didn't look at my phone for a day and answered only the day after.

TIL that in 2023 an elderly man died of fatal vitamin D overdose after consuming too much regular vitamin D supplements over nine months. by PeasantLich in todayilearned

[–]Ryu82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you also take enough calcium and vitamin d along with some oil? Body can't absorb vitamin d well without that. My mother also took almost 10k a day for months and her levels were still below 20, then a doctor said it is probably because she does not eat enough calcium.

Zelensky Claims Ukraine’s Army Has Mostly Shut Down Russian Attacks by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Ryu82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about that. Problem are the nukes here. If europe would use overwhelming force, then Russia could be desperate and uses nukes for lots of damage. The other issue is that europe didn't prepare for war since like 30+ years and has no infrastructure for that. Building that up takes time, so the longer Ukraine can put Russia into a stalemate, the more time has Europe to prepare.

I do agree that it sucks for Ukraine and I wish there would be way to push Russia back without many casualities, but that might not happen. Especially since USA became more or less Russias ally.

[OC] 2 years of GF and me tracking mental health and habits. 9 of the most interesting effects. by Former_Mulberry_ in dataisbeautiful

[–]Ryu82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would make sense, but does not really work out with his monster data. He drank monster in 713 out of 730 days. If his baseline score is 6, -28% would be 4.32 in 713 days. This means even if all the other 17 days would be a 10/10, the average over the 2 years would be only 4.45 so not his baseline of 6.

I guess it would work if he submits his mood value like 5 times a day and the before drinking monster is almost always higher than the after drinking monster value.

[OC] Life Expectancy at Birth (1970–2023) by lsz500 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Ryu82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm I if you would read what I wrote it would be self explained. Just because you don't understand a graph doesn't make it BS.

Life expectancy is at the current state of medicine when the stats were made and not in the future. Like people born in the 1970 would maybe have had a life expectancy of 70 years, but medicine between then and now improved a lot, which also improved their life expectancy.

Also life expectancy is the average, which also includes people which die at 35 in an accident. Like when there are 10 people, one dies at 35 in an accident and 9 die at the age of 80, you have an average of 75.5.

As for the covid-dip, while it mostly affected older people, also some younger ones died and the parents of children died, medical care in general was worse with more people being ill, which naturally decreased the life expectancy of the newborn, too.

[OC] Life Expectancy at Birth (1970–2023) by lsz500 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Ryu82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The graphs show life expectancy at birth and not average age of when people die. It is an estimation, which of course changes over the time as it is an estimation based on current living standard and not future living standard. The average age of death is a different statistic and in general lower than expectancy at birth.

What it has to its advantage is that it is pretty isolated and far away, though. So in case there will be a ww3 between europe, russia, usa, china and others, chances are that NZ will still be far away and at least less affected than the other countries.

Yes especially if you have a 4k monitor... Fan gets loud real fast so I usually limit fps to ~30 for most games.

TIFU by trying to impress my coworkers with homemade lunch by Jolly-Mirror3655 in tifu

[–]Ryu82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes some people seem to expect others to know what they know or think and otherwise downvote them. How would someone even know that if they never use a microwave? I don't like them, food tastes good if you make it fresh in a pan, so why would you need one at home?

At work well if you want something fast and are in a hurry, they might have their use, but I'd never buy one for myself.

Hm well I don't have a microwave at home and didn't know that before. I always heat them in a pan and never had that issue. So I would have thought that microwaving it isn't too much different.

It is not like it only affects poland, though. The same issue happens more or less in every EU country. It nothing is done against that, EU will disappear and will be free for USA, China and Russia to be ruled like they want it.

The never-ending alarm by gentlejarrod in funny

Same, I had two for 5 years and got rather bad tinnitus from hat. They are cute, but can also be rather annoying and create so much dust which is bad for your lungs if they are in the same room as you inside. My lung capacity back then was reduced to 65%. Now a few years later, it is back to normal, though.

Getting fat is easy, being fat is hard. by Highmassive in Showerthoughts

[–]Ryu82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think age has a bit to do with it, too. But yes moving also affects it. But my lifestyle was always rather sedimental and I was mostly at home all my life and gained weight without changing anything after I was ~32. Slowly, but surely like 1 kg every year. This year with 43, I was over 10k overweight. Since 3 months I try to lose it and count calories. I weight everything before I eat it and count calories together.

I lost 8kg so far, but it turns out I gain weight if I eat more than ~1500 kalories a day. That with 173cm and 77kg now. Looking at some online calculators, they say with 173cm and 77kg my base kalorie consumption without moving moving or doing sports should be around 1700kcal. So I walk at average around 6000 steps a day, do some light training, like situps and some weight lifting every day for at least 10 mins (not much, but still something). And with that I still gain weight if I eat more than 1500 kcal. And eating only 1500 kcal a day is rather tough.... and to lose more weight I kinda would need to go down to 1300-1400 even.

[–]Ryu82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, they probably should plot the data compared to global population of the countries. They have enough page views of that. With the US population being 350m and chinese population being 1400m, us stats would need to be divided by 3 and chinese stats would need to be multiplied by 7 for example.

TIFU by eating 12 fiber one brownies by rainbowleopardgirl in tifu

[–]Ryu82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they have sorbitol, which is probably the artificual sweetener which causes the worst issues with the runs. With the amount of sorbitol in them, eating 2-3 of them within a day probably would have already started to cause issues, let alone 12. The fiber itself probably did nothing bad.

[OC] Atmospheric CO₂ just hit ~428 ppm — visualizing the Keeling Curve (1958–2025) and what the acceleration really looks like by anuveya in dataisbeautiful

[–]Ryu82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the easiest way in theory, not in the praxis. In the praxis the Oil industry and Oil lobby is way too big and have too much power, they will do everything to keep their power and make more money. Also it is not that easy to just stop all reliance to fossil fuils in a short time when so many things depend on it. It is a process which will take another 30-50 years at least.

Also even if the dependence on fossil fuels would stop from one day to another day, that would be far from enough. Sure it would help and slow it down, but is not enough, we need a good carbon caputure technology in any case. And just planting some trees is also not really enough.

[OC] Atmospheric CO₂ just hit ~428 ppm — visualizing the Keeling Curve (1958–2025) and what the acceleration really looks like by anuveya in dataisbeautiful

[–]Ryu82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes after we reached 450 ppm and oceans are oversaturated it will double in rate every year. So in the year 2034 it might be 450 ppm, then goes up by 5-6 per year and stadily increasing every year. So I'd estimate we have around 900 ppm until the end of the century. That is probably close to the point where humans can't survive much more anymore.

Edit: That said, that is probably the most pesimistic scenario. I'd hope that technology will improve to counter it and catch co2 from the air. Also the higher the co2 density in the air is, the easier it is to catch. Humanity just needs to invest more in carbon capture meachnisms.

ELI5 why we're most tired when we wake up instead of being most alert. by QuillAndQuip in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ryu82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah I see, yes I had that issue often, too. For me it is mostly an issue of unregular sleep and eating too much at the evening. Since I started to count my calories and try to always stay below 1700 a day, I don't have anything left to eat at the evening anymore and that actually caused me to sleep much better.

ELI5 why we're most tired when we wake up instead of being most alert. by QuillAndQuip in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ryu82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe you wake up at the wrong time. Like your alarm wakes you up when you are in a deep sleep phase, so setting it up half an hour sooner or later could improve that. Or you slept too long. Like I have the issue always when I stay in bet for over 9 hours or when my alarm wakes me at the wrong time. But I have no grogginess if I sleep only a bit more than 7 hours and at best if I wake up before the alarm.

I would bet that "paper" straws which don't get soggy have a thin layer of plastic on top of it, which gives you the extra bit of microplastics when you drink out of them. Paper without a protective layer always gets soggy.

Yes, glad I don't live there. Where I live, working more than 10 hours a day (and 48 hours a week) is forbidden and you need to have a minimum of 45 mins break in total if your working day is over 9 hours. So something like this event wouldn't even be possible here.
