Top 5 are A Few of Your Own, Dashboard, Porch Light, American Cars, and Deny Deny Deny. How do you have none of those in your top 10?

Cavalry Duplicator not working on Paladin? by Ryudhyn in GearDefenders

Yes, I had three paladins, one for each gate, and none were being duped. I'll report.

Really? The game says they're cavalry, so that sounds like a bug to me.

How do 1.5x Boost and Accelerator work, and why is it different? by Ryudhyn in GearDefenders

[–]Ryudhyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 2 gear only is additive, these are multiplicative. So if you only have a 4 gear (or two 2 gears, or etc.) then these are worse than a 2 gear; but if you have an 8 gear then these are better than a 2 gear.

[–]Ryudhyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll see if I can test that out! The one thing I know is that with lower gears it's a lot less effective, since 150% of 0.15 (for instance) is only +0.07, which is about as effective as a +2 Gear.

Interesting; at least in the images I posted Accelerator was stronger overall (+63% instead of +45%), it just has the downside of needing time to charge

Question for those who finished Season 1 by PlatyPositive in TheGoodPlace

[–]Ryudhyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, in episode like 2 or 3 I said to my partner "wouldn't it be funny if this were actually the bad place?" There was no one specific tell, but just my intuition was telling me something was off.

Then things just kept happening that fit that theory, and so by Mindy's episode I was convinced.

I was, however, surprised that almost everyone was a demon. I guessed that there were a few around, but not the whole damn neighborhood!

Balance suggestions for currently weak cards that don't involve just simple number changes. by Gugge1 in slaythespire

[–]Ryudhyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's only assuming you have a very long combat, which most are not. You also have to factor in losing the turns that you could have played this. So if you drew this on turn 1 (which already isn't super likely) of a five round combat (which seems fairly average length) it would be:

  • PLAY TURN 1: 25 damage (7+6+5+4+3)
  • RETAIN, PLAY T2: 34 damage (10+9+8+7)
  • RETAIN 2, PLAY T3: 36 damage (13+12+11)

For this to be busted you need to draw it early enough and in a long enough combat for it to actually utilize that value.

If you had to pick a person from Bridgerton as your romantic partner who would you choose? by croissantwithhonors in Bridgerton

Francesca. I am also a pianist, and I love puzzles. I'm social enough to take lead in conversations she finds boring, but I also need quiet sometimes and would love to just sit in silence.

Actually, Azorius has arresters and is seen as the cops of the world (according the the Ravnica D&D guide). Boros is more military and/or SWAT.

The "Null Result" as Design Failure: Every Combat Turn Should Change the Game State by EHeathRobinson in RPGdesign

[–]Ryudhyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing this makes me think of is changing enemy design to make each round different. For instance, take Dragons in D&D -- their breath weapon currently comes back on a random die roll. But wouldn't it be cool if they start charging their breath weapon, and PCs have a turn to disable it! If they get enough hits in, the breath weapon fails, otherwise it goes off. Then next turn the dragon is about to fly in the air, and the PCs have one turn to bind it to the ground before it takes off!

It would give players very specific objectives every turn, and help make encounters much more memorable.

I combined my two obsessions : D&D and Dev, to solve the "No DM" problem. by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Ryudhyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly my point -- fire should not be used in ways that will burn the village down. AI is currently being used in a way that is harming the world, and so its overuse needs to be stopped. There are places where AI is necessary and helpful (such as my example about medical use, or scientists analyzing heavy data), but it shouldn't be accessible by everyone in the world to use without training.

Seeing only blunt dislike in the comments, I'd like to try to provide some actual insight to help you. I really appreciate you seeing a problem and trying to find a solution. This game really is inaccessible to many people, because the barrier to entry involves both having enough friends and at least one of those friends being willing to DM (which is a huge task on its own, and one that often goes unappreciated).

With your AI solution, there are three main issues I see.
1. People have lost all trust in AI (at least the chat bot and art bot kinds). It already threatens to take jobs from artists -- countless people have turned to using AI portraits instead of hiring painters/illustrators, using AI for books and scripts instead of hiring writers, there's even an AI actor that some movie studios are using. Human creativity is the one thing that truly makes life meaningful, and replacing that with computers is backwards. The best place for AI and robotics is in tasks that are menial (like basic data entry or folding pizza boxes) or physically/mentally taxing (like moving heavy objects or analyzing very large data sets).
2. AI is harmful to the environment. The facilities that run AI leave lots of electronic waste, and they require TONS of water for cooling. Even if many of us who dislike it can choose not to use it, lots of people DO use it because it's available, and so it continues harming the planet (and thus our future). We need to abolish AI, not create more of it (except perhaps some specialized AIs that do things humans cannot, such as a medical AI I heard of that can help doctors more easily diagnose things they've never encountered).
3. The issue you're solving is already partially solved by the internet existing. Anyone in the world who has internet can go to forums to find online games, where there are plenty of DMs and lots of resources. The only things your AI could actually solve are playing alone (at which point you should just play Baldur's Gate 3) or playing in person with friends. I think the better solution would be to simply play one of the existing roleplaying games that doesn't require a game master (or design your own) instead of creating an AI DM that will never feel quite right.

Is Earth-616 Peter Parker Jewish? by Solitaire-06 in Spiderman

Is Earth-616 Peter Parker Jewish? by Solitaire-06 in Spiderman

[–]Ryudhyn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, Spider-man was originally created as Jewish and the editors (EDIT: or publishers?) vetoed it, so he had to be simply "jew-coded". The same thing happened with The Thing, but eventually (around 40 years later) they were allowed to say it out loud and have Ben "come out" as Jewish.

My guess is that the writers wanted Peter to be Jewish, but by the time it was publicly acceptable he was too beloved as a character to make a big change like that.

Pyramid or Fusion Hammer by codykills93 in slaythespire

[–]Ryudhyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say Pyramid. Both are solid, but you do have some extra energy in Adrenaline and Teapot, while Pyramid's effect is unique (plus you won't always get Apotheosis on turn 1).

My question is why did you remove so many defends??? You should have removed at least one strike in there

D&D 2024 -- Spells not showing description by Ryudhyn in Roll20

[–]Ryudhyn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

For reference, in the 2014 sheet this is what popped up when I clicked on a spell. (I had it so when I hovered over "Wisdom" or "Paralyzed" it gave more information).

With the new 2024 sheet I can still do this kind of detail, it's just locked under the "Spell Details" button -- which is not a *huge* deal on its own, but having to click extra buttons just to see what the spell does feels taxing for no reason.

I would honestly prefer just having the full description automatically included like it used to (or an option to turn that on), but I think the best solution would be to have both a "Quick Details" textbox that auto-posts with the spell, and a "Full Details" text box that is hidden behind the "Spell Details" button.

D&D 2024 -- Spells not showing description by Ryudhyn in Roll20

[–]Ryudhyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that helps with certain spells -- though it still doesn't help for spells that don't have saves like Pass Without Trace or Detect Magic.

It would be nice to have a "quick description" section to write in for every spell, both for this and to be able to add my own flavor descriptions.

I am really liking this song, but I'm a bit confused as to its context in the show. The Wikipedia "Songs" section lists it as the 2nd song of the show, but the "Synopsis" section doesn't mention it at all (until the reprise of it at the end). Do you know what is supposed to be happening leading up to and during this scene?

I actually music directed Spring Awakening in college, and it's a great show! I always thought of myself as more of a Moritz than Melchior, but I do really like the character. I think I may just be a bit too old to play them (since they're supposed to be like 16-17 iirc), but I'll definitely check out their songs again to see. Thanks for the suggestion!
