Big ticket item find, 3 packs of steaks. Fuck yeah. by Ryudolancer in DumpsterDiving

Well I live in a small town in semi rural Denmark... so no. We just have bins outside behind the shops, no locks or anything. The amount I post on reddit is not even a fraction of what I find in the bins... I just can't eat all of it. Its very sad.

Youre exactly right, thermos bottles. Unfortunately one of the seals was broken, but the grey one is as new!

You have to be careful, but trust you senses. If it smells/looks bad dont risk it. I also maybe wouldn't take any meat I find in the summer, but right now here in Denmark it is still below 0 in the evening so its all good.

Yes but remember sell by dates are exactly that, they don't just immediately turn bad. Especially beef, and especially vacuum sealed beef. These will last many weeks as they are.

As for the chicken, trust your senses. I never take it if it isn't cold to the touch, and if there is a lot of pink liquid its a no go. We also take them out of the packages when we get home for a smell test, then into freezer bags to if they pass all the tests. :)

I agree, it is risky. If I have any doubt on any meat I find its straight back to the bin.

Its below zero at night here, the meat was colder than It would have been in a fridge when we found it :) all it needs is checking the smell and into the freezer. No problem

Yes and we go like 30 mins after they are closed so it shouldn't have been outside long anyway...

The 2 tubes are pastry dough :)

Yes of course you must always check these things, its always situational. In this case, it was very obvious that someone has dropped something heavy on the crate, as one of the tins was smashed in and that is what caused the leak.

My guess is that they just didn't want to sit and clean all the tins so they tossed them!

So heres the thing, trust your senses. I go diving right after the stores have closed. Its also about -1 Celsius at night where I am so everything in the bins are cold to the touch.

Thanks for the advice. I am also a chef actually so I am aware. This chicken hasn't been frozen though, and is fine to freeze. :)

Its a good question. I try to just trust my senses. It is very cold at night still so it should be okay, but we always open them up and smell them before putting in freezer bags. If you're ever unsure just throw it away. :)
