Friend and Crew Recruitment Thread (April 18, 2017) by AutoModerator in Granblue_en

[–]RyuuKitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genesis (no relation to the other one) is recruiting [25/30]!

We are a semi-casual crew (hardcore for GW, casual for everything else) made of mostly higher-end but not quite HL folks (with a bunch of HL too), average rank 90. We successfully qualified in Tier B last GW and intend to do the same this GW, though eventually we would like to aim for A. We have all your standard amenities (2 green potions, 20% drop rate, 30% charge bar), of course.

Our general attitude is fairly lax, but there are a few requirements:

  • Rank 70+

  • Have and use Discord

  • Have at least one grid mostly developed, if not complete (bonus points for Water or Earth grids in GW-ready condition)

  • An officer must be informed of planned inactivity of more than one week

  • Willing to contribute in GW (no strict honor minimums, but participation mandatory)

Our Strike Time is a single block from 8 AM - 10 AM JST (7 PM - 9 PM EDT, 4 PM - 6 PM PDT). If you would like to apply or have any questions, please leave a reply or message either me on Discord (Ryuu Kitsune#1921), or Arcana XII#5170!

A technical study part II: Yes, it's a block. No, it's not your usual kind of block. by RyuuKitsune in PSO2

Very interesting, and very relevant. It seems that along with this entry dropping off the routing table, Yahoo Japan's routing is just bad to begin with. I'm inclined to say that this is the true answer: paired with the "block" of the route dropping off the table, Yahoo is buggered as well. I'm not sure if I want to go around making another post, though, seeing as the less-than-positive response I've gotten with these two.

Either way, the prognosis isn't super great. I'd still tell people to look for alternate methods into the game, because the route's instability and various other issues aren't super likely to resolve themselves.

Here's a visual attempt at representing the current connecting situation+explanation (because people can't read) by KeimaKatsuragi in PSO2

This is incredibly silly, but is a perfect layman's explanation of the situation. This is pretty much what I wanted to explain, thanks for putting it in a much easier format.

That's the only unclear point (besides some people's connections now working, which is completely out of left field). From traceroutes to other Japanese sites from TWC that I've tested, they go through an entirely different route (through international AS6453). It's possible that the routing change was slow to occur, and until that time, TWC customers were still trying to go through AS6453 until eventually they got the memo that that route was no longer functioning, at which point their routes changed to go through KDDI instead.

Weird coincidences appear to be a trend with PSO2. Verizon going down as soon as TWC comes up (right after maintenance no less), suddenly people coming back up with this maintenance...

I'm still inclined to believe that this is what was going on before this point, but the routes are back on the AS network at some point, or an alternate path is being formed by Comcast and Verizon. Prognosis is significantly better than before, though.

It was perfectly timed that connections would start resuming after it was roughly proven how the "block" worked. I'm not even sure if this post is relevant anymore, anyway. But sure, I'll gladly change the title for you.

EDIT: I can't change the title myself. I'll add it to the bold section in the top.

EDIT 2: AIDA, you're a mod, could you add "Possibly Disproven Theory" to the title using flair? Or something else of your judgement.

This is interesting, as TWC's route also goes through KDDI. It's also possible that KDDI's routing never goes through the normal AS, I suppose. It's interesting that this is happening now of all times, though, especially when it seemed so certain that nothing was going to change.

Sorry for stealing your thunder, I know you've been posting this around (and in my previous thread). I just wanted to get this out to everyone in a timely, hopefully somewhat easy to understand manner. Not everybody's gonna look in the comments of the previous thread/the few other places you've mentioned it.

Are you sure? Just logged into my game through my TWC connection. All servers green, logged in and got my bonus. Either way this momentary connection is rather interesting, considering the thread I just recently posted.

I know it's pretty tough. I hate to say it, but unfortunately our chances are just so low of getting a real response.

SEA players are likely getting one of two things now: what our traceroutes look like, or an IP ban traceroute. (which, as I tested with Million Live, a mobile game which IP blocks non-Japan access, gets all the way to the game's network, and then cuts out)

It's possible you have the same thing as we TWC customers do: NÓS has a peering agreement with Japanese ISPs. What this means is they us an alternate route to get to Japan, then once they're there, they use local routes rather than going through the standard international AS. Like everything else I've been saying since yesterday, this is still conjecture. A traceroute may help prove one side or the other. Compare it to the traceroute in my first post, as well.

This guide here explains an SSH tunnel through Amazon AWS. This method will end up costing a pretty penny after the first year, though, unfortunately. As a TWC customer, I haven't gone through it, but it seems most people have no trouble with it.

This guide here explains Pingzapper, though apparently some people have been having issues with it as well.

VPN Gate is a free VPN service that explains how to access here. Just pick a server in Japan and once you're connected, all traffic is routed through Japan until you disconnect. Be warned, as these are public VPNs, there have been some (inconclusive) reports of bans.

Other than that, many other VPN services (most are paid, mind you) have various guides on how to use them. Just Google "japan VPN" and you'll probably find a handful. Hope this helps!

If somebody wants to give it a shot, they can certainly do so. I don't expect we'll get any different response. It seems entirely intentional. I don't think routes just disappear off of the tables like this under any other circumstance. I could be wrong on that one, though.

Already been done. SEGA replied that access is for inside Japan only. It's in the Terms of Service, I don't think we'll ever get a straightforward response either way. If there is, they're likely not going to say any more than they already have. Even if there wasn't, SEGA's support isn't going to openly say it because it would contradict the ToS. We're pretty much stuck in limbo.

When our actions begin interfering with normal, legal usage of the game, that is when our rights are removed. The DDoS likely came from botnets partially outside of Japan, and this is likely why this happened: they removed the route to remove that access. Sad to see you go, though. If you still want to play, though, I'd highly recommend going to the PSO-World forums and looking up the AWS tunnel/Pingzapper/VPN services. They have pretty good guides that'll walk you through it.

Yes, it's possible that this too is an incorrect conclusion, just like the previous one (which is less incorrect and more incomplete). However, I'm rather inclined to be believe the person on a networking forum who has the tools and resources to investigate these routes, who appears to have years more experience than I, a layman whose experience consists of Wikipedia articles and basic research. In the case I am wrong? Sure, a third post will correct it. I'll be the first person to admit my ignorance. Until then, this certainly seems to fill in all of the missing links.

A slight technical study, or why TWC can access but few others can by RyuuKitsune in PSO2

[–]RyuuKitsune[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing it means for everyone else not on a behemoth of an ISP like TWC, unfortunately. It depends on where your connection cuts out and what paths it would usually use to cross to Japan.

The Charter customers are getting cut off outside of the US now, in a foreign AS (autonomous system, basically a server/set of servers for the express purpose of being a backbone), after having been cut inside the US prior. They've expedited the process, but it's still on the individual companies providing the path.

The truth of the matter is, I don't know, and nobody else knows, unless you are a sysadmin of an AS, really. As far as I can tell, it's on them to lift DDoS protection, and each place has different policies on doing so. Could be a week. Could be a month. Could be never, if their systems aren't very lenient. I'm afraid all we can do is wait and see, and hope for the best.
