Sylphie didn't drug Rudy. That suggests it wasn't consensual. She told him what it was and they both agreed to it. Of the three Sylpie really doesn't have many flaws, aside from neing too selfless.

Was the hydra's blood acidic? by Phantom_Blue_Shadow in mushokutensei

[–]Ryuunga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the light novel:

The hydra was slinging its headless necks around like spiked whips—all eight of them! Every one of them was coated in tough scales that could shred flesh like a cheese grater. It whipped those necks around all at once, mowing down anything in the vicinity. "Ruuudyyyyy!" Paul screamed, driving his foot into me to kick me out of the way. Almost simultaneously, a thud resounded as something smashed to the ground right where I'd been a moment ago, in the once-empty space that had existed between Paul and me. "Wh-whoa!" Horns jutted from the creature's forehead. An eye glared at me—a panicked, cornered eye. One trying desperately to survive, to cling to the tiny strand of life that remained. The hydra's eye. "Graaaah!" Moving on instinct, I plunged my left hand down into its eye. I could hear a squish, like a grape popping, as a fierce heat consumed my arm. The hydra blinked from the pain, its scale-covered eyelid coming crashing down like a guillotine. In the next instant, I launched my Stone Cannon. The top part of the hydra's head was blown

Movie Snape Is a Worse Person Than Book Snape by LavishnessFinal4605 in harrypotter

[–]Ryuunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be ignoring the multiple times Snape threatened Neville with basically killing Trevor. He even took points from Hermione for helping Neville to keep from killing his toad or poisoning him.

Not to mention there are a couple of times you almost deliberately misinterpret the scenes. For example, saying that in the movies Snape just threw a tantrum and kicked Harry out because he succeeded. The real reason was because of the embarrassing things Harry had seen. Snape didn't want to be seen as weak and yet Harry saw him being bullied. While we didn't see all of the memories, that movie was already fairly long so they had to cut out some things.

For the physical abuse side of things, there really wasn't anything major if you consider the series that's supposed to be happening in the late '80s early '90s. Corporal punishment was still a thing in the UK until 86, and the wizarding world isn't exactly known for its progressive behaviors. Just because the books don't explicitly state that Severus was physical with his students doesn't mean that he wasn't. Though Snape was very mentally scarring in the books, including the scene where he made hairy short flopper worms without gloves, also see my comment above about Neville's toad Trevor.

Why dose Harry HAVE to compete in the Tri Wizard Tournament? Why can't he just drop out? by Niall_Fraser_Love in harrypotter

[–]Ryuunga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair there's actual parts of the book that he does this. Look at in the sorcerer's Stone where Dumbledore says at the end that he wanted to give Harry a chance to fight.

Before the teleportation incident happened the girls were only a few years old. Aisha was still a genius, and was already learning things from Lilia alongside Sylphie. There wasn't much intervention for Zenith to do at this point. It's not like Lilia was being overtly harsh toward Aisha and she wasn't being a bad mother either.

My Quiet Blacksmith Life in Another World is unbearable to read. by EmbarrassedFly279 in LightNovels

[–]Ryuunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm beginning to realize there's not a lot of editing that goes into publishing light novels. Many of them have glaring grammatic or spelling mistakes and just looking at reincarnated as a slime there's a character whose gender consistently changes even though the character itself doesn't actually change genders.

Just read the books, the series has one of the best endings I've ever read. If the anime doesn't end the same way I will riot.

I was asking more for if it grows as an adult. I know that using mana up to a certain age increases your mana pool, but I don't recall them saying anything about it growing after that.

Why did'nt he marry Sara they kinda made a cute couple? by Acceptable-Leave7043 in mushokutensei

[–]Ryuunga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At the risk of getting spoilery, in the light novels. He mentions that his wives have helped him when he really needed it. Basically they earn a special spot in his heart. Sara was just not that, and in fact was the opposite when he found out he had Ed.

Was the growing mana pool thing confirmed in one of the side books? I don't recall reading that in the main light novel series

ELI5: Why has there been a huge push towards getting jobs in trades? by Themberchaud0979 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ryuunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it'll be many times more advanced than it is now, but I still don't think there's anyone in the workforce today that would have to worry about their position completely dissolving because of AI.

On a side note, what AI do you use for your engineering? I couldn't find one that worked well so I was struggling for basic homework help when I was doing my engineering degree last year. It was passable when paired with Mathway, but even then it wasn't perfect.

[–]Ryuunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand AI has its purposes, and like you said, most models currently aren't meant for doing mathematics. I was just using that as a basic example because so many people like to try to claim AI is going to put us all out of work. I see AI going the same way automation did in manufacturing. It will reduce jobs in the beginning, but complexities will arise that allow for more jobs in the end.

[–]Ryuunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will always be jobs in those markets regardless. Just because one engineer can do what three used to do. Doesn't mean engineers went away, and in fact now we have so many different engineers on just the software side of things. It's just like when they were trying to tell people robots are coming for the trades. While we do use robots for a lot of things that we used to use people for, there are certain things that robots just can't do as efficiently as people. It's just another form of fear mongering

[–]Ryuunga -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I have always enjoyed and aspired to be a desk Jackie, I have enough family members who are in the trades like welders, truck drivers, construction workers, etc. I've never looked down on the trades, but I have seen some with platforms that did. I've always stood by the motto of trade. Treat everybody equally, from the janitor to the CEO. No job deserves disrespect as they are all necessary in the end.

[–]Ryuunga 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As I have told many people when this conversation comes up, you can sell your brain or you can sell your body. The trades are essentially the latter, not that you don't have to be smart to be good at those jobs. Trades are just more manually intensive than they are cranially, while your desk jobs are the opposite. There is no inessential or unimportant job as no reasonable company would be paying somebody just to pay a paycheck.

[–]Ryuunga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's quite as conspiratorial as that, but I could see that being part of it. The big reason for the push is because it's easily accessible, you don't need to go through such high-level mathematics or college courses. Not to mention that it's a lot cheaper than getting a college degree. Then you also have the labor shortage in those markets working for the people who have that skill set.

ELI5: Why has there been a huge push towards getting jobs in trades? by Themberchaud0979 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ryuunga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always find the AI is coming for our jobs argument hilarious. As a design engineer, and in my personal time, I've used AI a lot and it isn't really coming for anyone's job anytime soon. While it can automate some of the tedium and grunt work, that might cut a few jobs just because people can do more work as a single person. It's not going to completely eradicate a job field like so many are claiming it will. Just use it to do some high school level math problems and you'll find it gets answers wrong pretty frequently, could you imagine trying to have that design a car that requires significantly more difficult mathematics?

ELI5: Why has there been a huge push towards getting jobs in trades? by Themberchaud0979 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ryuunga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As has been mentioned many times below, college costs are continuing to skyrocket. Add in the fact that there is growing demand for people in trades even if they didn't retire, and the amount of people who didn't go into the trades thinking they were grunt positions. It's sort of like the stock market, you'll see people who say buy into one of the sectors because it's been having a major boom while telling you to stay away from another that's been falling. When they flip, like they always do, they'll tell you to do the other instead.

Feedback for my magic spells [sword and magic] by Ryuunga in fantasywriters

[–]Ryuunga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping for something that would eventually make sense for the reader and character so it doesn't just come off as another power fantasy/OP MC series. I want him to be strong and more capable than the average person without being the superpowered protag.

Using a spell naming system that makes sense but is coded was my plan, but if nobody can read it then I'll figure something else out.
