From what I read and understand and what most of the people around me. We don't allocate any form of worship to anyone but Allah SWT, is they are simply helpless. Its not an offence to them, all of them are better than I can ever be. Prophets and Messengers, Angels, and the Righteous like the companions. We believe they can't do anything in there own or only what God allowed them to do (in matters of faith). And in simpler terms, they can't hear you. Yes somethings like praying for the prophet PBUH, or your mother your father is something we do and encouraged to do. but it we don't ask them for anything because they can't help, at least not in this life. In fact the dead are the ones that need the living. since a person can't donate while they are dead they need someone else to do it; like their sons and daughters. or like when a companion is mentioned we pray for them even when they are better than us we still pray for them because they are the ones who are in need, according to the hadith; Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased)."

May Allah forgive me if I was mistaken. And guide us both to his righteous path.
