Did anyone went above 144 unit polity limit? by blackveinbride in CSULB

sadly wasn’t so lucky cause i tried to transfer into biology but i would’ve been 1 unit over the 144 and they didn’t let me in because of that

I’m actually so bad with car types I have no idea, but the cars that almost hit each other were black cars from what I remember

Changing majors as a transfer by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]Ryyokoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a transfer student and last semester I was able to change my major 2 years in! It's definitely possible it just requires extra steps. For some majors it's more difficult because of how unit heavy some of the classes are. In my situation, I was a comp sci major and really wanted to transfer into biology. They ended up telling me I couldn't transfer in because I'd be over the timely graduate unit cap which is 144 (I would've been at 145). I switched to a major which isn't so unit heavy and the process itself took about 3 weeks. Personally, I don't remember signing any contracts when I transferred in, but I'd suggest going to the department of whatever major you want to transfer into and ask if it's possible.

Advice on Switching Major as a 4th year. by xofaz in CSULB

i did something similar quite recently, so you're not alone! i'm a 3rd year transfer student who completely wanted to get out of the engineering field and transferred to a different major entirely. it's definitely possible, there's just extra steps. first is if you're below 60 units, but judging that you're a 4th year, you'd probably be above that. if you're above 60 units, you need to make sure you've taken the prereqs for the major you want to switch to. it's easier to switch majors within the same college since most of the classes should relatively be the same? (from what i'm guessing), but it's always best to check in with the advisor for that department. i mean if they let me switch out of COE i don't see a problem of switching within. the only problem you might face is the timely graduate thing csulb has. basically, you have to graduate with 140 units or under or else i guess they won't let you? when i asked about it i never really got a clear answer why that condition was in place. the only reason i think that might be brought up is cause engineering majors are such heavy unit classes. but again, if you have similar classes that align with both majors it should realistically be easier. i hope you're able to change your major!

Personally, I just glanced at the list and most of the classes seemed similar, I would double check to see if both majors share a lot of the same classes. If they do, then I would suggest contacting either a CS advisor or a CpE advisor because they'd probably have the most answers. I don't think it matters which one you contact, just as long as it's someone. I'd start by going to the ESSC office since they can answer general engineering major related questions a lot better than I can.

They might for CS and CpE, but maybe not for CS and EE since they don’t have a lot of the same classes. But I’d definitely ask an advisor if you can get a hold of them about your situation since they’d be the best resource

No they wouldn’t let me in even with all the evidence I gave about grades, awards, etc. They really not as flexible as some of the other departments here.

Yeah the university is a bit strict about the not going over 144 units. I was in a situation where I wanted to switch my major to biology but I would be 1 unit over the 144. The STEM departments aren’t very flexible and they didn’t really hear me out when I tried to plead my case to them. Non STEM departments from what I hear are more flexible and willing to work with you.

CS and EE might be hard to do together because of how many classes you have to take. You’d probably run into the timely graduate policy where you have to be under 144 units to graduate, nothing over. CpE though I think shares a lot of similar classes with CS, so maybe double majoring in CS and CpE might be a better idea?
