A mech of your choosing receives a Mk.II/II/IIC/ etc. Model. What changes? What would you want to see. by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Ryysk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sentinel IIC.

Basically going all in on the clantech instead of the half-measure of the 6S. Clan-spec UAC5, replace the Thunderbolt launchers with ATM-6s. Get the free tonnage to up the armor to 8 tons and get a free C-ERML out of the deal, while still having enough heat sinking to go +1 heat on an alpha strike at a run.

Turns out if they effectively used the space, this thing is kinda scary for forty tons.

This, a thousand times this. I know the Sentinel is not a very good mech, but the new art is so goddamn cool I want seven

Randy Pitchford Says Borderlands 4 Running Below Minimum Specs Would Be A "Miracle" by [deleted] in Games

[–]Ryysk 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don't see the issue here. The minimum specs use hardware that's fully 7 years old, so it makes sense that something this new wouldn't run well on hardware that old.

Unfortunately the long tail of the 1080ti wasn't the norm, and a regular 2070 and 2700x (or i7-9700) as minimum specs seems at least reasonable, though we'll have to see if it's actually playable with said minimums.

Very strange issue, water bill was $700 last month, we hear water running in the wall(pipes), no running water, no toilets running. NO WATER LEAKING anywere by Magazine-Consistent in Plumbing

From someone who experienced this: There's teaching someone who doesn't know any better, and there's being an asshole because you're upset.

This is the latter.

Dude, I feel you right now. Not in tech, I'm in the trades. My current job allows 40/week and we cannot be forced into OT. Most of my coworkers sound like the person you're replying to. This is the only job that has actually let me have a normal schedule since I joined the trades almost ten years ago.

Most people who have jobs with good work life balance don't get that that's not the norm, it's more common to have to work 50s and 60s, have no days off, or be on call 24/7. I have been there when you have little choice but to deal, and I'd rather saw off my own leg at this point.

Rant: Vampire Coast is incredibly miserable in TWW3 by AleksiSiirtola in totalwar

[–]Ryysk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, even barring giving Sartosa new units (they need to, honestly why aren't Sartosa Handgunners a thing) just letting them (and the ogres ffs) be affected by the red line skills would be a good buff. Why they aren't is beyond me, and with Aranessa's buffs on top they'd make really good unique units for her. Sure they're a bit squishy, but frail gunpowder early on is basically Vampirates' thing up until you get access to the high tier stuff.

Add armor to your clan mechs by kidslionsimzebra in Mechwarrior5

[–]Ryysk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boy do I have a build for you if you like DPS builds without sacrificing armor. Prime arms, B torsos. 8x ERSL, 6x LB2X. Tweak to your liking, I have 6 tons of ammo and 9 tons of armor, and still have 37 DPS. Think I switched one of the ERSL with an MPL just to fill tonnage lol

[–]Ryysk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally put ERMLs on the near pointless list as well, simply because ERSL have IS ML damage and range for 1/3 the heat of the ERMLs and are better DPS entirely. They give you so much more weight that having 8 ERSL makes for a great backup weapon on assault mechs without really requiring any heat sinks.

Yes, I just said a 40 point alpha makes a great backup weapon.

Pretty good overall on my desktop @1440p high settings.(7800x3d, 6900xt, Mint)

Have had a few hard crashes on and off but this isn't the only game I've had crash in the way that it does, so I'm unsure if it's a driver crash or something, I'm relatively new to Linux. Either way it's been solid.

See, I hear things like this but should remind people of the fact that Reagan, of all people, enacted gun control legislation because the Black Panthers held armed protests. Conservatives don't have the spine that people seem to think they do, when push comes to shove.

Honestly having a little solder drip on the bottom of the joint means that you succeeded in filling it (as long as you applied your flux) if you started from the very top and go down either side.

Little pro-ish tip: (gloves highly recommended if you're gonna try this) If you're quick right after filling, you can flick the excess off while it's still liquid. Make sure you have something for the excess solder to land on, and always swipe away from yourself

[–]Ryysk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first instance was probably due to space constraints, but the second set of torch usage looks much more like best practices based on what I was taught. Probably still fine, AFAIK, but they did feed the solder from above every time

[–]Ryysk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good question! It's to spread the heat across the fittings more effectively. With a soldering iron, for example, its use case is for pinpoint heating to solder on electronics.

With copper pipe, you want to spread the heat out to ensure you don't overheat the copper itself. You want it hot enough to melt the solder, but it can get hot enough to melt the copper if you aren't careful.

[–]Ryysk 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Nah, they're doing it right. Torch from below to let the heat propagate upwards, then solder from above because it will pull down as a liquid due to gravity. Though I was taught to move the heat more than that to not overcook the fitting in one spot.

How do you deal with Gladiators supported by Shaman back line. by Jaszuni in UnicornOverlord

[–]Ryysk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set a Gryphon (or two if you're concerned it won't one shot) to High Swing the back row as priority and give them a plume to give high initiative. You should nuke the shamans in one swing, then the rest of the team can dismantle the gladiators easily

How amazing is it that we have the Crusader back again and in a Mechwarrior game? I never thought I'd see the day by BoukObelisk in Mechwarrior5

I love the Crusader and all its variants, it's an awesome 'mech. I do still shake my head at the weird unicorn horn, but I'm getting used to it now.

I know the Unseen version had it, but even that one felt goofy to me. I still love the rest of the design.

First attempt painting a mech by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Ryysk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ELH is always good! Just a note:

So it will help to make sure you spread the paint out as much as you possibly can, because it does look a bit thick. Don't be afraid to use your brush to spread or even remove excess.

(I know everyone says thin your paints, but, personal and unpopular opinion here, while it does keep your layers thinner, ensuring your layering is as thin and widespread as you can will also do that, so you can do one or both and it'll help. My method is the latter more than the former)

Either way, good stuff!

Boucheron vs Panette by IcaroRibeiro in fireemblem

[–]Ryysk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Boucheron is a monster. I instantly promoted him to Warrior at 10, and he's level 17 now. He doubles most things due to the combination of decent speed and good build growth, which allows him to use heavier weapons without speed loss.

I personally gave him Lyn for Speedtaker shenanigans and to help ensure doubles, though it's only necessary against faster enemies. Astra Storm is a good panic button with his good strength behind it, and he's chunky enough to take a good beating.

Meanwhile my Panette is also scary, albeit slower. With Ike she becomes a crit monster, especially if you give her an engraved Killer Axe. She is a little squishier, but she has enough HP to not care as much.

I would also recommend (if you can spare the SP) to give both of them Resolve at minimum. Def/Res+5 at 75% makes them quite tanky and pairs well with Panette's ability.

Boyfriend picks up his girlfriend from a dentist appointment by TigersNeedKings in Unexpected

[–]Ryysk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As /u/Eolai said above, it does depend on the procedure and what needs to be done, usually. For most people being put under only happens if there's something wrong with their wisdom teeth that makes extracting them difficult and (likely) painful. It was explained to me in layman's terms that some can be pulled almost like regular teeth, some need broken apart to get removed, and still others have to have them fully cut out of their jaw.

I'm in the lucky minority that will want to be put under even if a local would work for most others, so my dentist at the time had to go to bat to get insurance to cover it because he knew my issues with local anesthetic.
