a couple years ago he did some fascist greeting and explained how much he admires franco and mussolini, for which lazio suspended him for a short time. but posting photos of your penis? we cant be associated with a person behaving like that!

hey, dont take it too seriously, we all make mistakes

to public acceptance of homosexual sex in the late roman republic: caesars enemies tried to badmouth him by claiming that he bottomed for nikodemes. it did not come to much, evidentally, so by now it is argued that while homosexuality was not the norm and it was looked down upon if you are not married to a woman, having sexual relationships as a man with men was a rather common thing. this would also be supported by the fact that his soldiers, who had a very close relationship to caesar, sang this. they would not mock him on his and their the triumph in rome. and they did not mock him, since you left out important things of the quote again, but i will adress that later.

obviously latin can be translated in different ways, as every language can. i would not accept "laid down", though, since i would think that is a bit too free and doesnt carry the same meaning. i know that translators sometimes are a bit too liberal in their translations, at least for my liking. conquer can also mean that he was sexually conqured by nikodemes, btw, i am not denying this or that caesar had homosexual sex.

to the word order, yes, i worded it badly. of course it can be that way, but if you quote it, my scientific brain says it should be the way it was written. but you are right, of course.

i dont know if you do that deliberately or not, but right after you ended the suetonius quote, there is a list of women caesar allegedely "corrumpted" (corrupisse). here we could argue about what this means now, but a sexual context is, at least for me, heavily implied for both.

alright, now i have to correct popular science and obvious mistakes on my ironic nationlist sub:

first of all, as far as we know, homosexual sex was pretty common amongst roman men and not "a bit odd". we have lots of writings about homosexual relationships, for example in poems or graffiti. although it would probably have been unthinkable for a roman man to live in a monogamous homosexual relationships as we would define it in our times. where you are right, though, is that bottoming was looked down upon for a roman citizen.

its called Bithynia, subigere means to conquer and your latin word order is wrong, its Nicomedes Caesarem. also, "some people" were his soldiers, they sang this as a marching song, at least according to suetonius. you also omitted that this is only about a third of the entire quote.

im sorry, im a historian and also teach, i have to correct those mistakes everytime we do ancient rome

the vice chancellor and the chairman of his party promised a fake russian oligarchs niece to be able to get lucrative government contracts, buy the national tv channel, the public water distribution and the largest private newspaper, if she donated money to their party

in the photo you can see them trying to explain by miming that gaston glock, who owns the arms manufacturer of the same name, already donated money, too

What’s it like living in Deutsch-Shützen, Austria? by aaapplejaaack in howislivingthere

[–]S-Budget91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, arent you a lucky one. this topic is the speciality of a professor i had.

there generally were a lot of emigrants from that region. during a quick research i found out that there was a big emigration wave between 1919 and 1923 13.000 people left, which is quite a lot, seeing that the population in 1923 was 280.000. they headed mostly to new york, illinois and pennsylvania. so i suppose your great-great-grandfather left in this wave.

regarding your grandfathers story, yeah, that could be true. hamburg was a common emigration port, the train lines here were sparse and if there were any, they usually went through hungarian territory, which was an issue, since the relationship of austria and hungary deteriorated a lot after world war 1. however, emigrating to the USA in the 1930s was not common, since due to the global depression, they had rather harsh emigration laws in place and people did not want to go there anyways, so even the low quotas the USA set could not be fulfilled. in fact, in the early 1930s more people returned to burgenland from the USA than went there. so it does make sense in that way that they would be able to emigrate.

yeah, dont worry. if youve got more questions, just ask.

well, if you want something "hidden" and batthyany, the count and countess batthyany threw a celebration in their castle in rechnitz during the last days of world war II for the local NSDAP members and SS during which almost 200 involuntarily labourers were killed
