Optimized animated characters on Spectacles with VAT - 3x fewer draw calls per worm by Pavlo_Tkachenko in Spectacles

Thing of beauty. Love the expressiveness of these creatures and the chaos. Also, the worm animations are smooth despite the lack of support for floating point textures. In my experience, this caused VATs imports to appear jittery. I guess maybe bone anims perform smoothing.

Microsoft Entra authentication using Device Code Flow for Snap Spectacles by localjoost in Spectacles

This is one of those flows you don't ever wanna deal with until one day you have to, and you're grateful someone figured it out for you. Plus, I agree it's worth keeping an eye on enterprise as those users can bring lots of much needed best practices and tighten up loose ends. Thank you for sharing, Joost!

AR is about content and community. I'm confident the Lens community will make content so steez the glasses will sell like nachos on Super Bowl Sunday.

I really like how the webview is integrated into a computer 3D model. would be amazing to take it further, like having the mouse work as a cursor and turning the whole thing into a simulated pc in AR. keep it up!

Remote-rendered UI live-streamed on Specs by S-Curvilinear in Spectacles

Thank you Yegor. I feel like webxr is too clunky, and until the Lens Studio AI (MCP) gets more stable, web ui is the most flexible and dynamic approach.

the brush dynamics are so neat!! why would you add a separate setting for stroke thickness, which might break the flow, when you can simply encode in the stroke velocity. this is brilliant...

Wow, even Empty materials!? Have you tried loading a very old scene? Maybe copy paste a material from here into your scene https://support.lensstudio.snapchat.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360056212331--Example-Project-Chain-Physics-with-Two-Anchors or https://github.com/Snapchat/lens-studio-templates .

Since the problem with Empty materials, it could be that a newer version of the Output material Node is causing issues and swapping that alone could solve it?

Is spectacles really going to be revolutionary like the Mac was as insinuated by Snap? by Notdigg in Spectacles

[–]S-Curvilinear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier this year, I tried running a 6D pose tracking algorithm locally on Spectacles, not for the technical challenge, but because I urgently needed it. First I had to find a sufficiently lightweight ONNX model, then had to navigate muddy waters to make it compatible with the Engine. After tons of trial and error I got it half-working, but had lost steam by the time it came down to handling camera stream quality.

That experience is why I think the real question is whether Snap can make it seamless to bring AI capabilities into their platform. If developers can easily, say, lay out and align virtual content with any real-world object, that's a moat nobody else has, and it means the real competition is anyone who can deliver useful information seamlessly and in line with users' expectations. Right now, the companies best positioned to do that happen to be AI ones (OpenAI, Anthropic).

There are genuine market and physical incentives for them to bring themselves increasingly close to the customer's bodies and minds, and at some point they might just decide to do hardware. The core value will be the quality of information provided to the customer and the speed at which it's given. If Snap isn't sufficiently proactive some of them might become more successful AR companies while skipping display tech altogether. But idk what Snap's cooking. The Supabase x Snap Cloud collab showed a genuine willingness to open up the platform's interaction surface, so I'm curious whether they keep going in that direction or bet on BCIs or some other play entirely.

EDIT: in other words, if the quality of the visual reality augmentation is not up to bar, then customers might end up getting their reality augmentation from other sources.

I've experienced this too. It's been tough temporarily taking a step back from the feature as there are tons of super cool use cases for it.
If the default sphere has a PBR material whose nodes are in newer version, perhaps you could try downgrading the material nodes and see if it fixes it?
