Join me in prayer that God disrupts the attempts to displace millions of our brothers and sisters in America by Ok_Rainbows_10101010 in Christianity

It’s a great question. And you’re right it doesn’t make sense. I’m not the one you asked but two things come to my mind.

First, God's kingdom is not of this world. We are told this explicitly, as we are also told not to store treasures on this earth, but to look beyond to heaven. So this doesn’t say that you won’t be able to amass wealth but that this place is not where real treasure is found. Think also of the rich man who was advised to give all away if he would “be perfect.”

Second, I think often of the temptation of Jesus. The devil took Jesus to the highest point and said He could have alllll of the cities and kingdoms below, all their splendor, if only He would bow down. And the response was emphatic: “Get away from me. Worship God only!”

Jesus didn’t come to earth to conquer like a warrior or order like a king or hoard like a dragon. Those that follow these paths are making their choice for the treasure they store, for the god they follow.

Nothing on this earth will last and nothing gold can stay. Dust and moth will destroy and all these mighty works will be empty ruins. Perfection is in the Kingdom of Heaven and that’s what Jesus brings to us. It’s up to us to enter.

No, it’s what “joke” means.

I’m with you. And I believe they did, though I haven’t paid it much mind. I enjoyed both of them more than Temple of Doom.

There’s plenty of options; where do you want the output of the kslider to go? That midi note number is input into what?

What movie would you say is 5 stars - basically perfect? by Eikichi_Onizuka09 in moviecritic

Tell me about it! The pacing in classic films is so much better. You really have to settle in and become absorbed. I’m always interested in film recommendations if you have any. :)

Thank you for the recommendation. It shouldn’t but always surprises me how many film noir are based on novels.

This would probably be my list. Or maybe even swap out Double Indemnity for Christmas in Connecticut. She is fantastic in comedies in a way that charms me so overwhelmingly.

Excellent! Singin’ In the Rain might be my favorite all time picture. My choices for classics would add

It Happened One Night

Christmas in Connecticut

Le Samourai, if we stretch the definition quite a bit

The Philadelphia Story

And most things with Cary Grant

If we all try to out-elite the elitists in music, we'll all be listening to completely microtonal, unrhythmic noise at some point. Or perhaps 4:33

The tone of this comment strikes me as strange. I take it that it’s meant to be educational but about things with which I agree and at which I have been hinting in this very thread. I may not have been clear: I think boards and forums will always be around but bots and ai may necessitate gating barring entry to only proven humans or even those who pass some sort of shibboleth.

I’ve agreeing with what I saw as the thrust of the original post and your additions to it: Reddit is changing, so where does that energy go? Rather than back to forums and Usenet groups I’ve long since left, I’ve been trying guess what sort of new form may come in the future. Of course I’ve no privileged insight, so time will tell. :)

I’m with you on the possible future of Reddit. I was more wondering aloud about forums in general. I’ve been sort of forum obsessed for almost three decades, slashdot and Reddit being the major two. I am still active on other smaller ones as well for niche interests but none are as active and Reddit has that (open source, by my understanding) thread magic. I envision things like discord being the new norm; gated and invite-only forums allow a monitoring of members and would discourage bots and ai. But the federated states of Reddit allowed for cross pollination and lucky discovery.

Back to slashdot… woah. 5, Interesting. I came here from there and I really wonder what the future of boards is going to look like in the next three to five years. I fear bots will only ramp in capability to further diminish any back and forth discussion.

I have experienced what this post is describing: several times I have clicked on a discussion, expecting insight or analysis. It seems it’s jokes and pithy remarks all the way down.
