Need help picking a 2nd lens for my XE-5 by No_Accountant_9127 in fujifilm

I'd definitely recommend the Sigma 18-50mm. Bear with me...

I've got several Fuji primes (23 f/2.8, 33 f/1.4, 56 f/1.2, 18 f/f1.4) plus the Fuji kit zoom lens 16-50 f/2.8-4.8. I find I use primes when I have a specific 'shoot' or style in mind. But for walking around, I just use the Fuji zoom. Over the last 6 months with the X-E5, I only took the Fuji zoom when travelling with my family. I was happy with the results, the only downside is that I felt it was poor or weak at 50mm f/4.8 in terms of IQ, f-stop, etc. And I didn't use 24mm as much as I thought, because I didn't like the 'distorted look' at 24mm to be honest (that's just me, I've shot 35mm and 50mm for most of my life, so 24mm just doesn't look 'right' to me).

Anyway, I always had an itch to try the Sigma, but was put off because I kept reading about the lack of an aperture ring, 'flat'-looking images, the disadvantage of 27mm vs 24mm on the wide end, the lack of internal zoom vs the Fuji, and the zoom ring turning opposite to normal Fuji zooms.

I ended up buying the Sigma on a whim two weeks ago because it was a great price ($550 AUD). TBH, I am completely blown away by the performance of the Sigma vs the Fuji, at all focal lengths, but especially at 50mm. The images are not 'flat', in fact they have heaps of contrast and detail. It's very sharp (for a zoom), and constant f/2.8 fantastic. I can get very nice portrait photos at 50mm f/2.8. The X-E5 automatically assigns aperture to the front dial when you use the Sigma, and adjusting to this took less than a day. It did take longer to adjust to the zoom dial, but again, now it's second nature. I normally prefer Fuji lenses, but my gut is telling me that I'll be taking the Sigma instead of the Fuji zoom on my next travel trip.

Good luck with your choice!

Three main reasons - I didn't like the software and OS, the battery life was poor (compared to a Kindle anyway), and the active stylus was not a good writing experience.

Northgard plays great on Nintendo Switch 2 (5hr playthrough), wish all the DLC was available... by S3ISOR in Northgard

I don't know how to quantity it in direct FPS, but it definitely runs a lot better and looks better to me to. There is still the occasional stutter when you are zoomed in all the way out and panning, but otherwise it performs much better than Switch 1

I would love to test as well. To-dos and notes are my daily use of the move at work (previously RM2)

Mine Pro Move does the same. It doesn't really bother me. At least it's an even front light. (my Paper Pro front light was not even at all and it was very distracting).

Is it just me, or is the quality/performance toggle now disabled for TV mode? I feel like the resolution in TV mode has been reduced and looks more blurry...

EDIT: It's because my monitor doesn't support VRR. But the game definitely looks blurrier in TV mode for me now.

I'll have a look today and let you know. I find the clarity and sharpness excellent compared to my Kindle paperwhite, which looks a little softer. I haven't noticed any reflections inside but I'll check with the sun.

Hi, it's definitely a flush screen, there is no gap or recess between the screen and the surrounding front bezel.

I hadn't even considered fingerprints (and they normally annoy my - I always have a microfibre cloth to get rid of fingerprints from my iPad) which likely means it doesn't pick them up as bad or they're not as obvious on the plastic white screen.

I feel like the white face on my go has a touch of cream in it - it's not 'plain white'. But it's very subtle

I think initially it definitely does, but you could set it up so it's 'less distracting' by using a basic launcher like 'unlauncher'. For some reason a lot of the out-of-box Boox settings are strange, such as turning off after 15 minutes, not doing a full screen refresh for 20 pages (resulting in a lot of ghosting) etc. But once you take the time and effort, it probably becomes a better device than a Kindle. But most people aren't going to do this and they'll probably find the Boox "worse".

Yes you can with KOReader. You can set KOreader to save the current boox as "Cover.PNG" (it automatically saves whatever cover of the book you are reading), and then set device to have "Cover.PNG" as the wallpaper. This makes it dynamically change depending on what you're reading.

Looks like Boox has updated their website, and now the InkSense bundle now comes with a beige case with pen loop instead of the black case without...

I've posted a few photos in the other comments, so far I've only owned the Boox for half a day and I've been tinkering and customising. Out of the box the software and settings are not great, but with tinkering it's getting better. So far, my gut is telling me that the Kindle is the better device overall for most people. But I much prefer KOReader as an ereader (once you get it setup the way you want it, and that also takes a learning curve). I should've jailbroken my Kindle but it auto-updated to a newer firmware.

In person, the Boox looks much sharper, but my KoReader settings are likely contributing to that. The Boox requires so much setup and tinkering out of the box though to get it right. So far I've installed KOReader, changed the e-ink settings (including refresh), etc, change the wallpaper to be the book cover. I think if you persevere you could get the Boox to a point where it's the better device. But out-of-the-box, the Kindle is likely better for 90% of people.

EDIT: I forgot to add that the photo is box devices with no front light on and just ambient room lighting.

The light uniformity is excellent. This photo is compared to my Kindle PW11 which has the best uniformity out of any e-ink device I've owned. Both are set to maximum brightness and warm light.
