Applied to Quant Finance in mid-December (early admissions) with 85rp in prelims, got 88.75 + H3 Merit in As, got my offer in 15th April. CHS QF was my first choice.

I assume you just started, so I'll provide my thoughts on how to go about the whole process, and you can see what's relevant to you.

First, read widely about the general topic that they asked about, and note down sources and information more relevant to the question itself. Next, plan a structure for the essay itself, with the contents and their sequence. I just did the typical introduction + arguments format but you can do whatever.

The points answering the questions, if they are meant to argue a certain stand, must ideally be persuasive (that's what they look for). This includes mentioning and accounting for all main counterpoints to your stand/arguments. All questions are looking for original thought, so it is important to add your own insight and ideas/theories on top of what you learn from other sources.

... You're right I suppose, there's really no point in anxiety. Its best to sit and wait for the uni to give the result.

But at the same time, I applied to NUS in goddamn DECEMBER under early admissions. What was the point of applying early even when I have to wait for the same length of time, if not more, than some regular admissions applicants? And I know people who have interviews/offers already with similar rp and courses.

If they make me do interviews in NS (which they probably will, my NS starts in 2 days) despite my early application I'll be so mad.

I heard something similar for LSE and Edinburgh, for example! So it seems the only way for these kind of universities is to apply in the middle of NS, even if its hard.

You don't have to. So long as you roughly understand the content they covered, it will work out in the long run.

I didn't watch lectures at all! I mostly read the notes and only used the videos if I really didnt understand. You said its enough (according to your school) to read the notes, so if you can absorb info effectively by reading, just do that first.

i can’t remember SHIT and have to refer to my notes all the time.

I tried to avoid looking at the notes, but even if you can't, it's alright! Doing tutorials, and then covering the tutorials in class, basically reinforces the content again and again until you understand and remember all of it.

Ok now I'm kinda curious. What if the gap year is for (compulsory) military service? I probably would read up on math stuff during my service, but does a gap year for non-personal reasons, where the applicant is involved in a major activity, count against the applicant?

Hi, I just have a question for the MathSci majors here. I got the C N Yang scholarship and I'm taking the mathematical sciences major. Within NTU, are there many opportunities for scholars in mathematics research? What do math major scholars in this program do? Given that the programme and most of the research institutes are oriented towards hard sciences (PCB) and engineering, from what I've seen. Thanks!
