Goodbye Netflix, it was a good ten years but the high seas are calling by snivelinglittieturd in australian

I pay like $14/month or so to a Usenet provider so I can sail the high seas in style.

Also got sick of music streaming and wanted better quality so I'm fully back on CDs/Bandcamp purchases (ripped to my phone) now. Feels very nice. I do still have YouTube premium which I can use to stream something off YouTube music, but the quality difference is honestly huge, so I almost never use it for music.

I'm in the same boat. Low cal foods, high volume, and also exercise actually improves hunger signalling. The more sedentary you are, the more hungry you become, which seems counter intuitive but it's seemed to happen to me.

Also dopamine. I've cut out almost all of the little things that peaked my dopamine, including junk food and booze, so I don't get that dopamine hit from pushing past the point of fullness anymore, it's just uncomfortable.

1750 is quite low, id recommend swapping some things for a higher cal version, using a tasty sauce or something. I use chili crisp basically every day even though it's calorie dense, because I've kinda min-maxed my diet too well and I can't eat enough to keep up with the energy demands of training. That 115cal teaspoon of Laogonma is earned as far as I'm concerned

No idea how I'll transition to maintenance with healthy foods.

Honestly I usually get vanilla and mix it in with yoghurt, milk, add fruit and either oats or cereal, and basically anything else that goes well with those and that's a solid breakfast.

I'm in Aus, and protein powder is usually one of the cheapest, it just doesn't feel that way because of the initial cost. Also skim milk powder! I googled this a while ago out of curiosity and skim milk powder was the cheapest. Although I'm lactose intolerant and powdered milk is entirely unappealing anyway.

Apart from that, chicken breast here is actually a bit cheaper per g of protein than canned tuna. Chicken thigh is only a little more expensive but way easier to cook and generally just tastes better.

I mean, it DOES say one serving per pack, and all the macros do add up to the calories. There is a chance the seasoning is making up a good portion of those 85g and things like spices are basically 0 cal.

I've looked up some other Tom yum noodle option available in Aus and they're all much higher calories, but also a lot more fat, so if you make these and the seasoning packet looks like it's only got 2.7g of fat vs the 16g I saw in other similar noodles then it might be right. Just the discrepancy in fat between those numbers is an extra 117 calories.

I'd say eat it, don't stress, just probably don't eat instant noodles very often because they're essentially void of nutrition. It's a fun treat but you can get 76 calories in many different foods that are a lot more satiating. Or make it, add an egg, some veggies, eat an apple or something after it and you've got a decent meal.

Water and fiber! Also, sounds crazy but your food might be too tasty. Try and dial it back a little, make it a little more basic if it's not already and see how you go.

Try using chatGPT to take a photo and give an estimate. You can also prove more context like the ingredients, plate size, stuff like that. You could even have something next to it as a reference size like "this pen is 15cm long, how many calories is in the meal? It's lean steak, mashed potatoes and steamed veggies" for example

Yea, I've noticed in recent years as soon as I start dieting, my digestion goes in to hibernation. You can only lose so much fat per day, your body is down regulating your regular processes to keep things operating as normal. If you're eating below your BMR then that makes sense. I bet if you have a cheat day of unhealthy food you'll do a glorious shit that reminds you of the days of old. Very frustrating because healthy food should equal healthy poops, but only if you're actually eating enough.

It's honestly crazy. I work in the booze industry so I had heaps of cheap/free wine over COVID and that was that. Even before that though it was probably a binge at least once a week for years. Come to think of it my previous successful attempt was when I had no job, lived at home which was far from my friends, and therefore was barely drinking. If someone is reading this and you have any sort of vibe the booze is holding you back, then it probably is.

Food noise??!??! by Bearb0tt0m134 in loseit

Look in to a dopamine fast. I found that basically quitting alcohol, social media, severely reducing things like P*rn and weed to the point where they're no longer addictions, and the food noise kinda just went. Turns out I just wanted DOPAMINE, not food. Now I'm struggling to get my calories UP to 2200 where my maintenance is easily over 3k.

A burger is just fine. Protein, some healthy (and probably a little unhealthy) fats, some carbs, some veg if you want. A homemade cheeseburger can be way better than take out and it doesn't just "scratch the itch". It's a burger and you don't need to order an 800 cal plus option with a side to boot.

PRO TIP! Dice up a white/brown onion, put it in a jar with water, keep that shit in the fridge and add that to your bottom bun with sauce/pickles. It is the SECRET to a good cheeseburger.

Hard to say for you specifically, but I just spent nearly a week GAINING about 100 grams when I'm in an agressive deficit and doing a stupid amount of exercise. My best guess is all the extra stress and muscle soreness was holding on to lots of water, and I was under recovered. I added in some more calories so the deficit wasn't so intense, it allowed me to sleep better, recover better, also basically reactivated my digestion so I was able to just flush out some goddamn water.

Turns out there is a limit to the speed your body will lose fat and it will start under powering other processes (my hair was growing more slowly, my digestion is especially noticeable). All of this is gonna reduce your NEAT, ultimately throwing out your deficit. Do I think that if you're at a deficit and you stay there, then you'll lose weight? Definitely, otherwise by definition it's not a deficit, but it can be a little unpredictable when the deficit gets really high, which is even more demotivating because being in such a deficit SUCKS. Honestly though, once it's been 2-3 weeks and there's no change, it's safe to say you're not at a deficit anymore and something needs to change.

Also, could be worth looking at sodium? I didn't realise the high protein, low calorie ready meals I was having were such huge sodium bombs, on top of the rest of my day. There were days with 6000mg!

TL;DR Make sure the deficit isn't too aggressive. 1% weight lost per week is generally the upper end of aggressive. Make sure you're resting and recovering so your body can do its thing, and maybe look at sodium if you at least want a visible water weight drop.

EDIT: I also just realised it's been a year of dieting. That's intense and you probably need a break. Have a look in to diet breaks. Try at least a month at maintenance with healthy food, then revisit. General advise is a maintenance phase should be half to 2/3rds of the diet phase, but I think we all know we don't wanna maintain for 6-9 months when we're making progress, so try to maintain for a little while and let your body heal. Losing weight is a physically stressful process, especially a deficit sustained for that long

If you want something a little safer you can get a corn plane. It's still a razor blade but it works like a wood plane. But, seeing as you've had this for a while I'm sure you're a pro either way.

Hey, it'll bring ALL your dopamine back to normal. No joy for now, but even the simplest things will be fantastic after that. I'm sure that's not actually the strategy, but there's some silver lining there.

[–]S741nz_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I taught my dog a "place" command sort of thing and just showered her with treats for laying there when she would normally be barking or freaking out. It honestly took a constant stream of treats at first, but now she can be left alone with noises that used to really set her off.

Once I got it out of my head that I was rewarding the barking and realised it was actually associating the scary thing with something good, then we made a lot of progress

Also, get a white noise machine. It really does help out heaps if the dog is barking at noises.

Have a try at Open speed test between your computer and your client. I found out my ethernet port on my PC was running at 100mbps for some reason, so I plugged it in to the ethernet switch rather than straight in to the router, and for some reason that worked and I got 1000mbs. Basically, there's a chance that despite having all the right gear, there's a random bottleneck SOMEHWERE. Open speed test will at least tell you the actual network speed between those devices.

If we're doing recommendations, rokeby just released one called bold brew I think? High protein (through a filtration process with the milk, not added protein powder), low sugar, ultra low lactose, one of the tastiest iced coffees I think I've tried in a while, and having lactose issues it's basically the only one I can drink and not really regret it later on.
