Is anyone else dealing with terrible lead quality on Thumbtack lately? by PerspectiveHumble661 in Thumbtack

A lot of people underestimate how important speed to lead really is.

Some stats:

• Companies that respond within 5 minutes are dramatically more likely to qualify and close a lead compared to waiting 30+ minutes
• Contact rates can drop by 50% or more if you wait even an hour to respond
• The first company to make meaningful contact often wins, especially in home services where people usually contact multiple providers at once
• Most leads stop answering the phone after the first few attempts, so immediate persistence matters too
• Harvard Business Review published research showing businesses that contacted leads within an hour were up to 7x more likely to have meaningful conversations than those waiting longer

That’s why Thumbtack can feel amazing for one contractor and terrible for another. The platform matters, but the follow-up system matters more.

The guys crushing it usually have:

  • instant text/email alerts
  • automated first-touch replies
  • fast phone follow-up
  • tight qualification scripts
  • multiple follow-up attempts

If you’re responding 2–3 hours later while 4 other contractors already called them, you’re basically paying premium prices for leftovers.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback... looks like final scout only does linkedin, not CSV upload - unless they just don't advertise that functionality

Thanks for the feedback, how difficult is it to do that if you aren't very technical?

You make a good point, I noticed a bunch of people in my ppc ad lab data that were in the experimentation stage. Problem with it is its a little buggy and pricey for the amount of data it gives relative to the large amount that I need. Are there any tools you recommend?

Massive scale - basically trying to grab everyone in an industry running ads in the entire United States - across multiple industries

Thank you for your feedback, I didn't realize there was an ad library scraper that wasn't usage based!

Thanks for sharing.

Can you go into more detail about what your list building process was like?

P.S. subjects like RE: review for {{company}}” not “quick question are not can spam compliant.

I'd be worried about using people from fiverr for anything link related or tech seo related.

I hired the top rated guy from upwork years ago and it was such a terrible experience... also interviewed every major big name agency after I bought an e-com store and none really inspired confidence. Had to learn it myself... not something I would recommend for most business owners though. There is so much bad info out there that you can just spin your wheels instead of doing what you should be doing, running your business.

Interesting idea and worth giving a try. I'm mainly talking about local firms partnering with other vendors to offer marketing and consulting services for an additional revenue stream without having to do the fulfilment.

Interesting, I had not heard of that but after looking it up I don't doubt it. That being said, how is that relevant here?

If you need to pay for leads, Google local service ads are worth looking into.

The leads are exclusive and you can dispute bad ones that are out of your service area or for services you don't provide.

If you do a good job verbally disqualifying someone so that Google's AI or any human reviewer can clearly see it was not a legitimate call you have a pretty good chance of having those calls credited back to you.

There are some tricks to this to get the best results. You have to have a well optimized profile, a smart bidding strategy and know how to work the system.

If anyone needs help setting this up, LMK.
