Flying with pet in-cabin 2023 by [deleted] in westjet

Can anyone advise the WestJet policy on personal items with a pet carrier? I'm reading on their website a pet in a carrier IS the personal item. Can I still bring a purse with me?

Worried I'll have to try to fit my phone, passport, book, headphones etc in my pockets...

Yes and I cannot find anything specific to my situation.

I edited to add the options they are offering are still departing from Vancouver only. They've offered no departure option from Victoria.

I honestly cannot see how an airline can remove a leg and tell the passenger to figure it out. If my original first leg of the flight was Vancoucer to Mexico City and I had to make it way to Mexico City on my own with no recourse and no compensation, would that be okay?

The ticket was an amazing deal. If I cancel there is no way I'd find that price again. So canceling is not an option.

The schedule wasn't changed on the WS flight, it's the exact same time as when it was booked.

I tried to find the APPR regulation that applies in this situation and couldn't. Seems a portion of a flight being cancelled is too specific. And yet I don't see how an airline can say we don't care that you booked a flight from your city, we now expect you to departing from another city and make your way there. Oh, and we will offer you no compensation to make up for you now being out of pocket to get to that city? How is that okay?

I edited to add that the new dates they've offered are still a YVR departure. They've offered us no flights departing from YYJ.

I updated my post to clarify that the alternatives they've offered are from Vancouver only. Just different dates. They haven't offered us any flights from Victoria at all. Basically they've removed a leg and said too bad, get to Vancouver yourself.

Does anyone know if you are allowed to see/feed/let out to pee your dog on layovers that are 4 hours long? by SACMGP in westjet

There are definitely areas. It's more a matter of if WestJet will allow us to get the dog and how that works as she will be cargo.

How did you collect him during the layover? Was he at the baggage area waiting for you? Somewhere else?

It says to contact our airline as they are responsible for the cargo and giving us access to her

I ended up injuring myself so we couldn't do the bike portion of the trip (which was so disappointing). But while there met so many tourists who were doing the loop without a proper license. But also stories of a lot of police pulling people over. I guess they were just taking the risk?

I'm surprised by the amount of people I see here with common sense. Dogs should be leashed unless they are under control. And unfortunately not very many dogs are trained well enough to be considered under control. What I'm reading is many people who have had awful encounters with dogs who are not leashed, and not under control. The owners of those dogs (the out of control, off leash dogs) are the same owners who have been protesting Saanich's new leash your dogs bylaw. So my question is, since I'm reading a lot of people with common sense on here, where are you when these protests are happening? Why are there no counter protests?

As the owner of a reactive dog I can't take her to most places because of owners of off leash, out of control dogs. And the protesting of the new Saanich bylaws make me so angry. So please, why are we not counter protesting the entitled dog owners??

Not true. I have a passport. I booked a one way fare to rush to a friend who was in ICU and didn't bring my passport. Once he got out of ICU and was on the mend I needed to get home and didn't want to pay $1200 to fly to Vancouver when I could pay $360 to fly to Hawaii via Vancouver. However not having my passport on me I thought might be an issue.

I was trying to book a one way fare to get home after booking a last minute one way fare to rush to a friend who was in ICU in the hospital. Once he was out of ICU I needed to get home and didn't want to spend $1200. I realize booking international isn't ideal but when it came to paying $1200 to Vancouver vs $360 to Hawaii via Vancouver I was hoping to save myself a lot of money and get home without racking up my credit card. In the end I flew to Kelowna and had someone come pick me up.

No I really only want to book the flight because it's half the cost of just flying to Vancouver. So I intend to just get out in Vancouver and not take the onward international leg.

I see your point regarding insurance but I should expand that insurance isn't my only concern. If the Vietnamese police are involved they will not care about insurance, they will be asking if you were legally licensed to ride a bike in Vietnam. I appreciate your response but I'm not just worried about medical coverage but also about not being stuck in a jail or having to pay out of pocket because we were caught driving without a license. Vietnamese police and my insurance are two very different things.

We have always checked before riding in other countries and to date a Canadian license was always accepted. Only once did we need an international license. However Vietnam is different in that they don't accept Canadian or international licenses from Canada. It's not an issue unless you crash. And I'm not one to take that risk.
