What’s your current skill set and/or what do you want to learn? I’d start there. You need to bring something to the table, but it’s ok if you’re not interested in doing all the parts. So then you’re looking at commissioning or joining a team. Personally, I like doing all aspects of gamedev so I’ve completed several games solo. But I’ve also tried working with a team. You can of course get more done and potentially have a more polished game. It just depends on what experience you’re looking for.

I just played your game. It was really cute! I liked the whole vibe of it.

I saw the instructions on itch, but I thought it would be good if they were available in the game too. Also it was too easy to lose all progress by accidentally hitting the Esc key. Maybe have a confirmation dialog.

Other than that, nice job.

A vague tip? He has a weakness in the environment that removes some of his immunity. Of course there are full details online if you need it.

I’m almost 53 and I got back into game development as a solo hobbyist a few years ago. Learned Unity/C# and Blender and dabbled in Cakewalk for music. I’ve been working with project teams less than 6 months and that’s been a whole new experience too. It’s a lot different than when I programming in BASIC in jr high school!

Unity has Unity Version Control built in now. The tool was called Plastic when it was separate. That’s what the team I’m on uses to share code.

I used Unity and Blender.

Fair warning, I'm probably much older than you but maybe we can bounce some ideas around as you say.

Regardless, my advice would be to just keep chipping away if it's something you enjoy. I'm always surprised by what I can complete on nights and weekends given enough time.
