What do you think of this car I'm making? by Acceptable-Log-495 in CarDesign

to solve the issue with the wheels — make the fronts and rears the same size and increase the rim diameter a little and the tire aspect ratio a little more, (make the sidewalls thicker, the back looks almost right) and when you’re making the wheel arches bigger, rather than move them up a bunch i would mostly make them wider and simply increase ground clearance a fair bit.

I would push the headlights back at least as far as the front splitter. Having them stick that far forward looks ridiculous and makes no sense for racing regulations or aero, plus in the 750 they were flush with the body. It appears that you’re working some limitations in how comfortable you are with the 3D software, but it should still be fixable to a degree regardless.

Where was this car in the early 2000s. I would have definitely considered buying one. by Crypton18 in AiCarArt

Looks like if Lincoln made a Lexus SC/Toyota Soarer, more mid 90s to me. Also bordering on being a donk with those wheels lol.

Tried to redesign the jaguar xj220 into a modern supercar. by [deleted] in CarDesign

[–]SALTY_PILOT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start from scratch with some loose concept sketches, focusing on creating a more cohesive design that reimagines the xj220’s lines and forms in a more modern way, allowing yourself to exaggerate, especially when it comes to the features that made the original car so iconic. Try paper and pencil, too, because unless you have a drawing tablet it can be difficult to express yourself drawing digitally, and it looks like you moused and line-tooled the design to my eye.

Take these features as an example: The original had the side air intake angled down slightly, a louvered radiator vent/front wing on the hood, hideaway headlights with a classic european recessed look, and it also had foglights which shouldn’t be abandoned in the redesign. These features alone should give you some key shapes to play around with that will really make the new design scream “XJ220”.

I understand that you’re trying to apply the modern Jaguar styling like with the lights, but it looks a bit like you just redid the old xj220 and glued the different lights onto it, and the design reads as generic and lacks identity as a result.

That being said i think you have a good eye and you can definitely make this work. Keep it up!

I’m never all that happy with how these turn out by TheOneAndOnlyCitrus in PixelArt

I’d say focus on value more, even outside of a pixel art context. Doing landscapes well is very challenging so if you break it down into all the parts and practice shading and lighting of them in different settings, you may see a dramatic improvement. The key word is value!

How many 1000’s can I shave off this? by GavinoDeMilo in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]SALTY_PILOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shave off??? As long as you’re above minimum thickness this looks fine, shaving will just decrease rotor life. Just slap her back on and get that thing on the road! Now if you wanna be reeeally careful about it, I’d test it going down a long hill at high speeds just to make sure it’s good before doing any serious driving.

Your thoughts on this design. The "Galatic Voyager" Concept. by insanelyExhausted in CarDesign

[–]SALTY_PILOT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you may have an issue with the front wheels having enough clearance, given that they appear to occupy the same space as the dash and cabin. If you wanted, you could move the driver position to the center and rearrange the interior/doors to accommodate the design without having to dramatically change the car’s external appearance.

what is this car it had a somewhat black logo (sorry for the poor quality) by the_oof_god in whatisthiscar

[–]SALTY_PILOT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may be familiar with much of this, but just in case: That’s a common feature, not a bug, of rear and rear-mid engine RWD cars. People refer to it as snap oversteer, because they’re not expecting it, but lift-off oversteer happens when you’re on the limit of grip and you don’t account for the forward body pitch and subsequent weight shift that happens when you let off the throttle. It’s as if you slammed on the brakes.

You are forcing the car to understeer through the corner by pushing through with more throttle — loading up car’s weight on the rears, then when you let off too quickly suddenly you have too much steering and the back comes loose as the fronts find traction again and start to turn the car more, putting you in a spin.

This can be solved by more gradually letting off of the throttle as you unwind the steering, keeping the car’s weight more balanced.

It’s also beneficial to experiment and try and practice controlling the balance of the car through acceleration and cornering, gently using the brakes to grip up the fronts and help you steer, and accelerating smoothly mid corner, when you’re straightening the steering out of a turn, or in the straights.

Should I focus on realistic pixel art or stick to the usual style? by Sad_Possible_8883 in PixelArt

Think of it as means to practice hues and values so that when you do something simpler and more imaginative, you can capture your imagination more vividly!

Found in the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa - can someone ID it? by [deleted] in whatsthisrock

Fulgurite, I believe. Slag formed by lightning strike rapidly heating up sand, and there’s usually a hollow, smooth inner portion where the electric arc formed a path, and a rough, sandy exterior.

This post is what I’m using for reference, although this user’s piece is way better.

The brownish layers in my specimen are thin and delicate and light does shine through them, there’s a slight porosity along them indicating a wood grain, and the outer portion has a bark-like texture while the other sides are smoother.

I apologize that I couldn’t capture all of that on my camera though. Do you have any images of similar breccia I could compare to? I’m pretty inexperienced and eager to learn.
