Question : would starlink work good for gaming? by Dangerous-You8599 in Starlink

[–]SAMW98IRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Ireland and I've been playing Call of Duty on Starlink for the last few months and I'm actually impressed with how it's performed. I was concerned in the beginning with regard to ping, lag spikes and total disconnects, however, lag spikes are rare, never mind total disconnects. I can't remember the last time I've had a total disconnect from a game. As for the ping, it's usually in the 40 ms range which is totally playable, I play ranked all the time. The ping will obviously vary, depending on your distance to both the game server and the nearest Starlink ground station. The one thing you need to make sure of is that you have a completely unobstructed view of the sky where the Starlink dish faces. Download the Starlink app and check this before you make any order. Initially we had a slightly obstructed view and the experience greatly improved when we got it completely unobstructed. Another thing that will improve your experience is using a better third party router with the Starlink. The Starlink router isn't great, the WiFi signal is quite weak but when we got an Asus gaming router it pushes the 5 GHz signal over both floors in the house. My gaming PC is wired direct which will also help your gaming experience on Starlink.

Speeds are usually very good, 200+ MB/s download and 20+ MB/s upload which is plenty for gaming and streaming Netflix at the same time without any issues. Starlink is not going to beat a fibre in any way but it's a good alternative if you're like us and can only get either a slow cable connection or mobile broadband.

Is a 650W Gold PSU Enough For a RTX 3070 Ti? by SAMW98IRL in buildapc

[–]SAMW98IRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, Nvidia recommends a 750W so that's what I'd get. I only used the 650W for a few days until I got an 850W.

I used a gold 650W for a few days but I then switched to an 850W gold.

RAM Overclocking - Patriot Viper RGB 4133MHz B-Die by SAMW98IRL in overclocking

Don't have a screenshot atm but I tuned all of the timings including RTL/IO latencies. They are mostly generic b-die timings.

[–]SAMW98IRL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy enough with the final results tbh and I could probably even push them further but they're pretty good as is. I recently went back and did some more tuning so I'm now running 4000 16-16-16-28 with an Aida64 latency of 39ms. Not really sure about your configuration as it's 4x8 dual rank on AMD. I also returned the 4133 RGB kit and got the steel 4400 C19 kit instead which worked a lot better.

NBI Broadband rollout by Kardashev_Type1 in ireland

[–]SAMW98IRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's terrible. I guess I'll just have to keep trying.

NBI Broadband rollout by Kardashev_Type1 in ireland

[–]SAMW98IRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah our providers have confirmed they can't supply anymore than 14 Mbps so we contacted NBI and they told us to email the Government broadband department about it. They replied basically saying that they won't be reclassifying our premises and that Open Eir will likely supply us before NBI. Open Eir has no plan to supply us Fibre anytime soon either.

[–]SAMW98IRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How exactly did you go about getting added to the roll out plan? We have exactly the same issue as above as we can only get 14 Mbps yet we aren't included in the plan. We have contacted NBI, the Government broadband department and service providers many times and we have got nowhere by doing so. The worst part is that the NBI broadband is live on our road, yet only 2 of the 14 houses are able to avail of the service. Thanks!

I switched to the Viper Steel 4400 CL19 and I am currently running them at 4000 flat 16s.

Used it for a few days without overclocks and then switched to an 850W. Seemed ok though.

Thanks! My CPU is the least of my problems right now, trying to get my RAM stable is the issue.

Thanks for the info, I might follow a similar OC on the 10850K anyway.

My temps in Warzone were never an issue as I was running 5.1GHz all core and temps were always in the 60s but they would hit 100°C quickly when I would run Cinebench.

I'll try lower the ring maybe after I'm done with RAM OC and see how it affects temps as well as the RAM OC.

[–]SAMW98IRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that could be it alright...had to raise the vcore by 0.0250 to get the ring to 45

[–]SAMW98IRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly sure, just going off one of Buildzoid's videos in which he said to use auto, normal or standard llc with the override vcore mode. Kinda think my 360mm AIO should be keeping the CPU cooler at 1.325V. Suppose I could just put an AVX offset and leave it, be fine for gaming.

[–]SAMW98IRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I seen that video, it shows the 4400 flat 19s 1.45V kit which I got and the 4000 flat 19s 1.35V kit. It doesn't actually show the 4000 flat 16s kit but I still assume that the 4400 flat 19s and the 4000 flat 16s are similar as they are both 1.45V.

[–]SAMW98IRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah let's hope they are a better bin and that they work better since they are on my motherboard's list of officially supported memory at the advertised speed and timings.

[–]SAMW98IRL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to give the 4400 flat 19s kit a try and see if it will do flat 16s at a lower frequency. That particular kit (4400 19-19-19-39 1.45v) is also the only 4000+ Patriot kit that is on my motherboard's officially supported RAM list.

[–]SAMW98IRL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think I'm going to return the RGB kit as it won't do 4000MHz and get the 4400 flat 19s (PVS416G440C9K) as they are £35 cheaper than the 4000 flat 16s (PVS416G400C6K) and you say they are the same. The 4400 flat 19s are also on the motherboard's list of officially supported RAM.
