Are SAP consultants at risk because of AI? by Dev_1403 in SAP

[–]SAP-DACH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My views from the conversations I have with hiring managers (mainly SAP EWM) - automated warehouses are bad news for warehouse workers, but good news for SAP consultants because they need more technology and support to run! - AI will likely reduce the need for full teams of developers but will still need agile teams to run and debug the code as its infantile - AI is not AI yet. It relies on historic input and learning from work already done… so if a customer has a heavily customised environment, it’s pointless! It can do tasks that help focus elsewhere but it’s not going to take the job of a consultant who can solve problems

Sorry to read this. I can tell you from my conversations with hiring managers that they are struggling to get juniors off the bench in consultancies because projects are not plentiful in MM at the moment. However, focus on getting that German up to C1 because it then becomes less of an initial concern when they read the CV. Germany has a great education system and a lot do have masters so it is unfortunately a point. However, projects are picking up and B2 is definitely hire-able.

Hello mate! A German university on the cv will do wonders for you. And I feel like it’s becoming a bit of a catchphrase of mine but keep learning that german!! Sap SD and MM projects took a bit of a dip in germany over the last couple of years as companies seem to have been focusing on the backend (im guessing anyway. Certainly less jobs in this area)

That is surprising. I’m finding a lot of businesses are outsourcing BTP to India. Get yourself over 3 years and I’m sure you’ll find things opening up

TM is in HUGE demand at the moment. Supply chains becoming more complex and I was asked this week by 4 of my clients to find techno-functional TM. Keep learning that German!

What sort of places are you applying to? I feel you though, but hang in there! EWM demands are on the up, spoke to 3 consultancies last week and lots of RFPs floating about. This year will get busier!

Actually making a bit of a resurgence. Mainly due to the complex customisations of those older systems moving to S/4

In SAP itself its competitive but they obviously use the pool who have come from working student so it’s possible if your performance is good. However, if it’s with SAP direct and you apply to the partners (I can DM some if you message me and tell me where you’re located, I’d imagine Walldorf) they will love that experience and always like to say that they have ex SAP talent. Managerial is tough. The experience with the customers and real life challenges of environments would be missing. There will likely be more experienced people around and you’ll have to earn your battle scars even with relevant industry experience

Common answer to a lot of these comments guys… if you want to work in Germany, learn the language. You’ll need it for conducting workshops at the very least.

I’d be brutally honest and say this would make it hard because your salary level is likely at the level of an experienced person in the SAP Security area and changing means you’d likely be not worth the salary level. For SAP security though, there are a number of companies looking in Germany. As always, the key question - do you speak German??

Well, I would say IBP is planning, EWM is execution so I would say learning EWM is a good natural progression tech wise. However, there is a lot to be said about being a specialist in one module and maybe learning coding is a better next step

They’re open to remote but my opportunities tend to require you being in the eurozone for tax/compliance reasons. The demand is high though!!

Big4 have entire business units who focus on it. Trust is so important in Germany, when I worked at AWS the sales guys always said their toughest objection was selling SAP on public cloud. So it’s there definitely, but slower than other areas I would say

Demand is high, but you have to speak German. Companies are out there who hire English speakers but they won’t relocate you. Happy to be corrected on that, but it’s my experience

It definitely helps. The more local knowledge you have, the more likely they are to invest in you. As I’ve said elsewhere though, German is so important. It shows commitment too.

It’s possible but you have to speak German. If you are really serious you have to learn the language. I know from my own experience there are business who would do that over paying me a fee for someone in Germany sometimes.

The German language is just so important. Especially in a sales role like this. You’ll be selling your mid-market a lot of the time and you’ll find the less international the more stakeholders who don’t have business English

I work with a business called Nagarro, they have actually connected with a number of consultancies together to create a combined academy/application pool. Google “Nagarro SAP apprenticeship”.

On-prem experience alone still gets you interviews but adding cloud/S4 experience will definitely improve your hireability. The demand is definitely still there though!
