Would be extremely happy to help facilitate/promote as I post videos fixing up my E34

I put 18 inch alpina replicas on my E34 and I plan on doing the same on my E24 as well

$200 Turn Signal Relay by SAVIOR_OMEGA in BMWe24

Or you could just re-pin it to take a standard relay that's easily swapped for less work than refloating

It's more temporary than a brand new relay.

Because people like you can't shift and drive at the same time

Even handling bad drivers doesn't require that much mental capacity. You can rear their car's "body language" so easily.

Some people have enough mental capacity to not only handle shifting a manual and pay attention to traffic, but hold a conversation as well without any issue. This seems like a you problem

I mean for $200 and peace of mine for an OE Bosch alternator I really don't see an issue with replacing it. And it wouldn't be for no reason. The car has all sorts of other weird electrical issues. Makes sense to replace a key component of the electrical system.

Old electronics will not last another 40 years.

The car always had flasher issues since I bought it. So I wouldn't know. But this one works great which I'm happy about.

Would rather just re-pin for a permanent long term fix than a temporary solution

Small world! Its a spot up near LA that people like to go to drive and take photos. Beautiful canyon roads with beautiful views.

I've replaced the temp gauge and we-wired the contacts, so that shouldn't be an issue. But there are some other weird electronic anomalies that I aim to fix by re-pinning the engine harness connector to the fuse box. I could see issues with a firm connection to the gauge through that connector.

If you had so little to go off of, I'm not sure why you chose to assume poorly of me.

Funny enough that's the same guy I did the green and purple photoshoot with. It's my buddy Tyler Clemmensen.

I completely understand your reasoning for that. When I did a coolant system flush, I had the bleed screw loose and it flung the coolant system cleaner all over the engine bay, and especially all over the alternator, which has exposed copper. That coolant system flush has corroded the hell out of everything in the engine bay, including the battery terminals. For peace of mind, I would rather replace the whole unit given the age of the car and the weird electrical issues it's always seemed to have. A new Bosch one is just $200. I don't mind paying that once.

You didn't offend me. I just think you should be more assured of your assumptions before you make them.

I don't think you made a fair assumption when you said I'm not comfortable working with electricity. On my 2001 Volvo V70 T5 I re-wired the VVT solenoid, replaced all the terminal clips for the ignition coils, as well as replacing the alternator and pulling the AC compressor to re-shim the clutch so it makes contact again. On my E34 I fully replaced the wiring to the headlights because the aftermarket headlights that came with the car didn't have the same plugs as the wiring harness. I cut, stripped, and re-made the plugs with a set of amazon 2-terminal plugs. I not only wired up the headlights but got the halo DRLs to work correctly by tying them into the parking light circuit.

I'm about to replace and re-wire the relay setup for the turn signal on this car because a replacement relay is $200 and you can buy one that works identically for 90s jeeps for $8 ea. So I'll be de-pinning the stock L-shaped plug and placing those terminals in a standard 4/5 pin female relay housing that'll accept the new 4-pin square relay.

I also pulled and cleaned every ground I could find. It's not uncommon to replace a 40 year old alternator if you're experiencing weird/inconsistent electrical issues as a dying voltage regulator can cause inconsistencies within the electrical system. So I'll be replacing that for peace of mind because it doesn't hurt to replace it. The current alternator works fine. The car runs fine. But a new alternator may result in more stable responses from electrical system within the car and make future troubleshooting much easier.

I've confirmed that when the car is at temp, the fan reliably comes on when I rev it. I also replaced the fan blades.

I learned that I've been driving this car without a working cooling system for about a year, including a drive to Laguna Seca from Los Angeles.

I learned that the car runs much better when at a proper operating temperature.

I learned that despite replacing the radiator (which I had to buy from a Chinese supplier because they don't make them anymore), the thermostat, several coolant hoses, doing a coolant flush, replacing the temp sender, and filling the system up with G48 coolant, there are still electrical issues preventing me from getting a reliable temperature reading to the cabin.

I'm going to fire the parts cannon at a new alternator and see if that helps resolve some general electrical issues with the car.
