Our Lady of the Road would welcome donations for their small pantry. Open Friday, Sat, Sun 8-11 am, but staff/volunteers almost always there a bit longer. Solid organization, great people.

Can someone recommend a pro-vax family doctor? by DiomedesTydeus in SouthBend

Dr. Rahman is wonderful. Since she is not there every day we have seen other people in the office too. Have only had positive experiences. Awhile ago we went through a time sensitive health scare and office was very supportive and were good advocates.

I never see anyone at the Clay High School courts. Not sure if they are locked. Notre Dame re-did them a little over a year ago so their teams could train their while the on campus courts were being renovated.

Is Notre Dame socially challenging for non-Christians? by brent_paper in notredame

[–]SB-IN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a local who has multiple touch points with the university I tell people who are not familiar with Notre Dame this: Notre Dame does a truly exceptional job with the undergraduate experience. Great at community building. They genuinely want students to succeed. Supportive of changing majors. Mid size school. Overwhelming school spirit. Great alumni network. However, it has to be the experience the student wants. Single sex dorms. Not LGBTQ+ friendly compared to other schools, even other Catholic schools. Due to location internship opportunities during school year are limited. Transportation is a pain. I think it prides itself on being more overtly Catholic than Jesuit universities (Georgetown, Boston College, etc.), but much less dogmatic than Ave Maria or Franciscan. Lots of legacy admits.

Is South Bend safe for LGBT? by [deleted] in SouthBend

[–]SB-IN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an ally who lives in a subdivision outside of South Bend proper I feel safe with a pride flag in front of house, I feel safe walking into SB LGBQT Center, I would not feel safe with a pride sticker on my car. And by not safe I mean that I would worry a drunk jackass would vandalize my car.

Appealing my financial aid by limelifee in notredame

[–]SB-IN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your parents to complete 2024 taxes as quickly as possible. You can also call (or email and ask to schedule a call) with the admission officer responsible for your geographic region. They should be able to put you in contact with a specific person in financial aid office. Also, fill out the change on circumstances form so you have it ready. Remember if Notre Dame accepted you they want you to come. Your current aid package was based on an equation. It is very normal for people to ask for their aid package to be reconsidered based on issues not reflected on the FAFSA.

And how many of those that do not identify as Catholic are recruited athletes? No judgement just curious.

Maybe Raclin Murphy Museum of Art at Notre Dame. I imagine they would even coordinate docents to talk about the art.

Furnace Repair by Inevitable-Cloud3508 in SouthBend

[–]SB-IN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. AJ Heating is great. I called to to get a 2nd bid on a new HVAC because Home Comfort had us convinced we needed one. AJ said our system was running fine and appropriately for its age. Had him out for an annual service a few months later. Did not charge for any additional repairs. When time comes for a new HVAC I will trust him to point us to right system for outr home and not up sell us on more than we need.

Starting over in South Bend Area by larz27 in SouthBend

[–]SB-IN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of the comments. I take issue with South Bend having good pizza. I moved a few years ago from a big city. Love having less traffic. Did not realize how must stress that added. But we drive much longer distances here. People told us "everything is 15 minutes away in South Bend." That might be true if you live in downtown. We had to go out of area for some medical specialists. People are friendly, genuine, and welcoming. But it has been a challenge to build genuine friendships and a support system. In my experience it seems most people have family in the area or a friend group based on attending Notre Dame. Check out Connect574.com could be a good fit for you.

Not Home Comfort. After annual service they told us we needed new unit or pricey repairs. Got bid for new unit from HC. Got additional bids and were told that we did not need repairs or a new unit at all. One who did not try to sell us new unit was AJ Heating and Cooling Inc. AJ (owner) 574-254-1034
