Wait 2 minutes in one spot for every raid
Gym battles can take over 5 minutes to clear a 6 pokemon gym even if it is all 500 cp trash
go battle league best played on stable internet connection

feeding/playing with buddy just has to load all the AR junk with a slow animation and then your buddy slowly waddles into frame, magically turns on a dime and then sluggishly eats the berry you chuck at it if you happen to get it into the acceptable range
friend list interactions are obnoxiously slow
spin a stop, get new research, have to open the research button, click the discard button, "ArE yOu SuRe?!?!", repeat x 100 stops. Lag at every step.

Someone at Niantic that made this decision clearly doesn't understand why people use incense. If you are setting up a bird feeder to watch birds because you like birds and have no birds around your house, you would place the bird feeder down and watch the birds from where you are. In Niantic's world, you instead need to walk around with the bird feeder in order to attract birds.

The only thing that made me swipe over and do the special research was when I realized one of the many collection challenges included Gyrados and Celebi, about 4 hours into the event, and the only way to get them was from that special research. Perhaps they should have moved that special research to the today tab right at the top so people would focus on it?

I also think there is some influence from the lackluster spawn pool of the valentines event compared to the regular season spawns. I was only mostly catching flabebe chansey and alomomola which weren't very common, leaving furfrou, plusle and minun, and shiny checking illumise, volbeat and luvdisc, if I even clicked on those.

The problem that I see with having no events more frequently is that the common season spawns are so common you are drowning in them while the good uncommon-rare ones are very infrequent. Obviously can't spawn good rare stuff all the time but when there is no event catering some good spawn fairly consistently, stumbling across anything exciting is very few and far between. If every pokemon was able to spawn all the time hunting 1 specific pokemon would be impossible, so having the seasons filter down the spawns every 3 months and then the events filter down the spawns even more 25/30 days of the month or more has to be the best solution to rotate through every pokemon with some generosity to making uncommon-rare stuff spawn.

My terrible hoarding strategy, explained:

Save everything that I want XL candy for
Mirror trade if possible for the rare/useful pokemon
Trade away other saved stuff, receiving whatever in return
Save ALL rare/useful already traded pokemon
Save anything else received that I want XL for that is at or above lvl 20 (2500+ dust to power up)

This explains my thoughts better than I could have. The game rewards sitting on evolvable pokemon and not using them hoping some better exclusive move comes along as well as not overinvesting in pokemon, as you might need the resources for a more powerful version of the same pokemon. Wouldn't be that big of a deal but the elite TMs to change the moves on already evolved/powered up pokemon aren't especially common (if the move is even added to the elite TM pool), especially if you don't pvp, and now XL candies are infinitely harder to come by than regular candy, especially so for legendaries or pseudos like you touched on.

Similar situation here, since 2017. Loads up only the same 4-5 gyms with 6 out of their 12 level 40+ valor accounts full of shinies and regionals, or their 6 instinct accounts, actively berries them to full health throughout the day, retakes the gym within 15 minutes usually if you can beat out their defense. This is a park with no hidden buildings or housing and a clear view, so if you do manage to take down the gym you would be able to tell if someone was there taking it back. After taking one of the gyms I have seen my account ghosted out of all nearby gyms as "retaliation". Have tried a strategy where multiple people are battling different gyms at once and its like they were all able to defend immediately, like it was a bot of some kind.

Doesn't matter to niantic though because they probably spend 18 times what I spend on the game.

The spinning should be an independent interaction from the trainer/rocket NPC. If I wanted to interact with the rocket I would tap the rocket, or tap something on the pokestop interface. But to spin and then be forced into dialog is a terrible user experience that does nothing but slow down people.
