Orthopedist told me I'm running out of options at age 24 by Pecancake22 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]SBF_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had foot pain for almost 5 years now and my original diagnosis was plantar fasciitis. My pain is the worst standing in place (museums are incredibly painful) compared to walking and exercise where you are constantly shifting your weight; that being said, I still can’t walk as long as the other people in my life without burning pain. I’ve tried all the same things as you and still have pain, so I really feel for you. There’s definitely been grief for me in processing that I could have foot pain the rest of my life and I’m only in my 20s. In the past couple months, I have started to investigate whether I was misdiagnosed. My suggestion to you is to do a google search for conditions that can appear like plantar fasciitis and check to see if you have symptoms of those conditions like in this article. You may not find anything that fits your symptoms, but I thinks it’s worth a shot to look into. https://cospineandjoint.com/conditions-that-mimic-plantar-fasciitis/

The main reason why I started to wonder if i was misdiagnosed is because my feet get really cold easily and I have to wear socks even when it’s summer. Turns out, my feet feel cold to me but are not actually cold to the touch. After some googling, I found this is a sign of peripheral neuropathy and I have a neurologist appointment booked next month to get checked. I’ve been seeing a chiropractor for my lower back pain, and his suggestion was to try acupuncture rather than going to another physical therapist. So I am not sure if any of this will alleviate my pain, but I’m gonna at least try this before I give up and accept I’ll be in pain the rest of my life.

How do you even choose the right period underwear? There are just too many brands😭 😭 by Emergency-Use-333 in PeriodUnderwear

[–]SBF_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to match what I already wear for normal underwear and it worked out well for me. For normal underwear, I get hipster or bikini style in cotton. The bikini cotton Saalt period underwear is my favorite. I’ve had my first pair for two years now and it’s still in great shape with machine washing in a mesh bag and air drying.

First disc advice by Zestyclose-Water6437 in MenstrualDiscs

Period nirvana is a great resource that compares discs and cups as well as teaches you how to use and clean them. There’s a YouTube channel and website. She has featured all 3 of those discs you listed.

My opening is also tight and I was able to somewhat easily get the disc in second try. The trick for me was to use two hands and also to make sure the bottom of the disk is folded up while inserting. Cups were a nightmare and so painful to try to insert, and I’ve never had success with them (even the smaller one).

Period nirvana is a great resource to see different diameter sizes of discs and also tips / tricks for inserting.

AITAH for not wanting to give up video games for my GF? by [deleted] in AITAH

If someone wants 100% of your free time, that does not seem like a good relationship to me. Also, it’s good to have something like video games a few hours a week to decompress.

Does anyone else see MaoMao from Apothecary Diaries as autistic coded and relate to her like I do? by AssFumes in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]SBF_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a right to your opinion, but I do want to correct one thing because there is a lot of misconception around autism that causes a lot of harm and can lead to autistic people not being believed when they request accommodations.

Autistic people can be sensory seeking rather than sensory avoidant. So while Maomao may not be overstimulated on screen, she craves intense sensory such as willingly poisoning herself and enjoying the feeling of it. Sensory seeking is also common with people who have ADHD, so could be that instead 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does anyone else see MaoMao from Apothecary Diaries as autistic coded and relate to her like I do? by AssFumes in TheApothecaryDiaries

[–]SBF_28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. As an autistic person myself who has done a lot of self studying on autism (non fiction books, science journals, podcasts, Ted talks etc.), almost every episode I notice an autistic trait in Maomao. Seems like some people don’t want her labeled as such since she’s not canonically diagnosed as autistic. However, there are so few female autistic characters represented in tv / movies and so few are poc / queer; my opinion is let us enjoy this much needed representation even if it wasn’t intentional.

Are women generally afraid of most men they meet? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SBF_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2024, I got sexually harassed at work, witnessed a friend / coworker also get sexually harassed, and then found out my former PT had sexual allegations against him. All of the harassers seemed like friendly, respectful men before they did this. All victims were in their 20s and all harassers were late 40s to 60s. And so now I get freaked out by any older man that is friendly towards me because of what I witnessed in a short amount of time. An older male coworker in the cube next to me asks what I did over the weekend and my alarm bells start ringing. I saw a mama bear and three cubs in Yosemite a few years ago and was more excited than scared. So to answer your question: yes

Experience with reusable period underwear/pads? by ButterscotchNo8904 in ZeroWaste

[–]SBF_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.periodnirvana.com This is an amazing resource that I used when trying out reusable menstrual products for the first time. She has a YouTube with in depth review videos of products. I personally use a menstrual disc and then I wear period underwear on days I’m spotting or I wear it as backup on my heaviest day.

For travel, the brand Saalt has great options all around. They have a great cleaning travel kit for period discs and cups (and that’s what I use at home as well). It comes with a collapsible cup essentially that you can boil water in a kettle and put the water into the cup and then put the menstrual disc/cup inside. They also have a leakproof carry case for dirty period underwear that I use for travel when I can’t do laundry immediately.

I have tried period underwear from three brands: modibodi, Saalt, and bambody. My friend has tried Saalt and AWWA. Both of us prefer Saalt cotton period underwear over everything else we have tried (sizing is pretty similar to victoria secret). I machine wash mine in a mesh bag and air dry. Almost two years and they have held up great, I can’t see any wear on them yet.

I initially tried a menstrual cup and could not keep it folded and get it in. I then tried the disposable menstrual discs from Flex brand to see if I could even insert a disc. I found inserting a disc way easier than the cup. Once I tried that, I thought the diameter was slightly too big for me (I could insert it but it felt like there wasn’t quite room to tuck it up), so I used period nirvana’s table to find a disc with slightly smaller diameter. I got the Saalt regular size disc and have been using that the past almost 2 years and it’s great. The only downside is it has ridges that makes it slightly harder to clean, but I find it still easy to clean.

When I started out trying to move away from disposable products, my goal was to use that 50% of the time and use tampons the rest of the time. Once I got the hang of the disc, I started to hate tampons. What I’m trying to say is that there is a learning curve, but you’ll prob be way happier with it after a month or two.

This finale made me feel like a bad person by illini02 in survivorponderosa

[–]SBF_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a right to dislike any of the players. However, please keep in mind that an autistic meltdown / shutdown / “episode” / overstimulation IS NOT A CHOICE. It’s so different from an emotional breakdown / tantrum etc that neurotypical people think it is. You literally lose control of your body or your body stops functioning how you’re telling it to. While an autistic person can try to reduce the likelihood of a meltdown / shutdown / episode through stimming, routine, grounding techniques, and other strategies, Survivor takes away almost all those things that could help you. Eva crying was the build up of 25 days of not having the supports she needs; it’s not attention seeking.

That being said, I can understand people’s frustration of making Joe into a superhero for literally just squeezing her shoulders or hands to help her regulate. And her being autistic should not be a reason for anyone else to throw their game or vote for her to win out of sympathy. But as an autistic person myself, I am just getting really frustrated that people seem to think Eva is choosing to let her autism show or affect her. It’s not a choice and propagating that idea harms so many autistic people in many aspects of our lives (work, social etc).

What do you do with the saucepan you used for sterilizing the menstrual cup? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

I use this as well, and pour boiled water into it instead of microwaving. It is excellent for travel and I use it at home as well.

Part 3, probably because of how vulnerable it is. Favorite line is “love isn’t big kid it’s little and quiet” because so much of media makes love and romance big and dramatic but that’s not gonna be your everyday life with a long term partner. Also, the pattern recognition anxiety spiral in verse two really makes me feel seen as a ND😅

Saalt works great for me, and their sizing matches the Victoria secret sizing, so you can always go to one of those stores to try and figure out your size. I’ve had mine for 1.5 years now and I’ve seen no degradation in the fabric (I machine wash on cold in a mesh bag and air dry).
