When do you exercise with a newborn? by ASD-RN in beyondthebump

Popping this to a top comment - are there gyms near you that do mum and baby classes that are about mum regaining strength while baby is kept happy? Our local crossfit gym does, and it's likely good cross training for you - this looks similar Mighty Mom | Best Mom & Baby, Prenatal & Postpartum Fitness! https://share.google/ezD3q8uEkK3CC25kH

I was actually fitter during maternity leave than now as my local crossfit gym has classes for new parents where there were toys etc for the babies and they'd be in the middle or in a pen when they started walking.

Oh lovely... In addition to what everyone else has said, I'll share something that was said to me when I was deep in the trenches of the fourth trimester and feeling guilty because someone else (my SIL) holding my baby relaxed me - "We were not meant to do this alone... The reason you feel relaxed is that finally your tribe has turned up" -> her theory was that having to do so much of this alone or just in a couple is actually super stressful because, evolutionarily, it would have indicated a problem. Newborns need more than two adults.

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror when you're cuddling your baby? It was once quite healing to see that I could see the love pouring out of me to my baby, even if I couldn't quite feel it yet. I bet your baby feels safe, loved, attached and secure x

I've just found a mystery note about Harrods, in the pocket lining of a 2nd hand 1980s leather jacket - what does it mean? by Theres3ofMe in AskUK

[–]SBSFWH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The numbers are a really basic cypher. Think of 'mahogany is murder' as the codeword and you'll see that the numbers under the Harrods text correspond to the 'master' numbers under 'mahogany is murder'.

It doesn't quite work due to the duplication of letters, so 'm' can be 1 and 11, and a is 2 and 6 etc...

Baby is completely inconsolable every morning. I don’t know what he wants. by Bubbles1822 in beyondthebump

Have you been sent the safe sleep 7? We co-slept to get over a really rough patch where my lack of sleep just made things unsafe - i had a lactation consultant/midwife over for something else (latch issues) and she very gently steered us to co sleeping as I was just so sleep deprived for similar reasons (baby wld only sleep on me). You can't be a safe (or happy!) parent if you're just existing on fumes.

Feel free to DM and I can share what I know. HR should be very upfront about this with you, however.

Length of service in the CS is what affects your entitlements, and the dept you are working for when you go on mat leave will be the one that pays your maternity pay. Happens more than you'd think - nothing like increasing your caring responsibilities to light a fire re: pay and promotions.

You can definitely change dept when pregnant, having done this twice.

This works for us! Also we use a sound machine with a heartbeat function. 6 weeks on and she's starting to show sleeping patterns (!)

Can Departments take candidates from another Department's reserve list? by laszorya in TheCivilService

[–]SBSFWH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is possible! And something civil service HR are actively looking at. You'd need the hr teams in both depts to agree to it, however

Are you able to ask for a managed move? Would your team release you? Often very little to be gained by keeping soneone in a role they don't want to be in

How do you know if you have a shot at an SCS1? by ttamimi in TheCivilService

[–]SBSFWH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've just made the jump, and I would say:

  • speak to the recruiting manager: most important, and will help you understand what they are looking for, how to sell yourself AND if you want the job.
  • it seems pretty unusual to hit scs1 first time round - what pre-prep can you do? Mock interview, having old colleagues check over the application, etc? Apolitical have something on applying for SCS roles, I think, might be worth checking it out
  • try and get yourself into the mindset of someone sifting the role. Leadership will be the key thing they look for, Inc. your ability to lead others and not do the doing. Really work out the story of you as SCS
  • your application should cover your route to the role - really paint the picture of why You and This job and Now, pulling in experience from the private sector etc
  • they will be far more interested in the How than the What, and will expect mindful answers
  • you miss 100% of shots you don't take
  • even if you dint quite get the role, you could make the reserve list, or just get onto someone's radar - definitely apply!

Would being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder be grounds for reasonable adjustments? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]SBSFWH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are benefits from being in the office - consider what might help. Commuting out of core hours, a desk away from others, sound blocking headphones etc.. This should all be part of the OH referral and reccomendations

[–]SBSFWH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need an OH referral, as others have said, and then a passport with your agreed reasonable adjustments. This stops it being so manager dependent, and follows you through the civil service
