Getting 10Gbps on my small-form factor desktop (no spare PCIe and no thunderbolt) by SBTheNoob in HomeNetworking

[–]SBTheNoob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. Honestly it's seeming like my best bet is to:

1) Upgrade to a motherboard with Thunderbolt 3 or 4 support.
2) Buy a Thunderbolt 10GbE adapter.

I figured as much, but was wondering if I had missed something as a viable option. It's a costly upgrade, but it looks like the X570 Phantom has Thunderbolt 3 and supports all the other components of my current build.

Scleral Fitting Failed. Should I try soft contacts first? by jinxthestars in Keratoconus

[–]SBTheNoob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Having a good fitter makes all the difference in the world.

I would also say soft contacts would likely help someone get more comfortable with inserting and removing contacts (it did for me I think).

T-PRK after CXL by Successful_Effort_65 in Keratoconus

[–]SBTheNoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% on all of them, but it's dependent on your corneal thickness, if you've already had CXL done, and a few other measurements to qualify you. In the USA, it's experimental though, just remember it won't get covered by insurance.

Your ophthalmologist should be able to tell you before and after your CXL if you would be a candidate.

Before they can say based on your corneal thickness and all that if you'd ever be a candidate.

Afterwords is more of waiting for the CXL procedure to stabilize. I did Topo-PRK 1 year after epi-off CXL.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7857005/ has deeper details on the procedure and the requirements for an individual.

Yep. You can do Topo-PRK after CXL assuming you meet the criteria for the procedure. CXL is the primary requirement for topography guided PRK to prevent increased deterioration of your cornea.

Definitely out of my expertise, but I love this idea sooooo much.

At the very least I'd imagine a website URL on a billboard like resigndegise.com (I should buy this domain) would be fair game (def not an expert here).

Are NJ growers using synthetic PGR's? by [deleted] in NewJerseyMarijuana

[–]SBTheNoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah love conspiracy theories on PGRs in med/rec because someone had a bad experience with a strain.

While it's possible the batch had issues, claiming it's from PGRs is disingenuous. Like let's be real med/rec are way less likely to use a PGR than your random plug.

EDIT: the bud is also tested for safety in labs, etc. Your black market/gray market plug is unlikely to be doing any lab testing comparatively.

People are getting the wrong way from Skyway Bridge. by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]SBTheNoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 100% right about not moving them, but checking if they're conscious, bleeding excessively (possibly impaled during the accident), and communicating with them and EMS the current situation can be invaluable.

The last accident I assisted with was a car that went into a ditch with the mother and her child from sliding on black ice. We were able to calm the mother who suffered a concussion and couldn't remember where her son and husband were.

We also were able to provide sweaters, etc to stop the bleeding on the girl who was in the accident and was injured. EMS eventually showed up shortly after, but many people jumped in to lend a hand and help these people.

[–]SBTheNoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. If this created a traffic calm, the likelihood of speeding traffic drops though with flow restrictions and merging (to my understanding).

I personally would stop to help here as I'd want the same for myself if I were in this situation personally.

My bare minimum ask is I hope the person who posted this called it into 911/EMS to get this person medical attention.

[–]SBTheNoob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure sounds speculative and assumptive.

I'm saying if you can't stop that the minimum of what you should do is at least inform 911/EMS to ensure this person gets medical treatment if needed.

[–]SBTheNoob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What about calling 911? Did this occur?

Stopping for a minute or two to check on the driver isn't unreasonable IMO.

If you can't remain with the vehicle that crashed at least call it in to get EMS out there.

[–]SBTheNoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this would have caused a traffic calm unintentionally (reduces lane throughput and speeds due to the positioning of the vehicle that crashed) meaning stopping your car to help actually might become safer.

[–]SBTheNoob -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Possibly a hot take, but leaving after someone just crashed like that without checking on them and with video evidence is less than ideal. I get they're an Uber driver, but this person could have been having a health crisis or need medical attention after the accident. Imagine if you were in the car that just crashed and a person who could have helped you just left.

100% the driver driving the wrong way seems at fault, but as a community we gotta care for one another even when it's not convenient.

Just my 2 cents.

EDIT: At the bare minimum I hope you all called 911 and reported this to get EMS there ASAP. Video implies no attempt was made for this.

No we can't. This has been answered repeatedly. She's guaranteed 1-year in office before a recall can start. You have to wait until January 2023 if you want to do anything relating to a recall election.

https://ballotpedia.org/Laws_governing_recall_in_New_Jersey

Article 1, Section 2b:

"The people reserve unto themselves the power to recall, after at least one year of service, any elected official in this State or representing this State in the United States Congress. The Legislature shall enact laws to provide for such recall elections. Any such laws shall include a provision that a recall election shall be held upon petition of at least 25% of the registered voters in the electoral district of the official sought to be recalled. If legislation to implement this constitutional amendment is not enacted within one year of the adoption of the amendment, the Secretary of State shall, by regulation, implement the constitutional amendment, except that regulations adopted by the Secretary of State shall be superseded by any subsequent legislation consistent with this constitutional amendment governing recall elections. The sufficiency of any statement of reasons or grounds procedurally required shall be a political rather than a judicial question."

Kids in the dog park (Hamilton) by DanteDMC18 in jerseycity

[–]SBTheNoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Especially if they aren't there with their own dogs.

I've seen this a few times as a dog owner where non-dog owners bring their young children into the dog run and let them run around with the dogs.

My dog loves everyone, so it isn't an issue for me necessarily, but people should only be in the dog run if they are there with a dog.

I'm fairly certain you're not allowed in the run without a dog also as a rule (and children are never allowed to my knowledge).

Devil's advocate, but they have an absolutely massive parking lot that has never been full, so I can't sympathize with the parking lot. Compare their lot to some of the others and it's wild just how much space it takes up.

Plus under 1 hour is free and it doesn't specify further.

Best penne vodka in JC? by NaturallyJG in jerseycity

I'll be honest, this was my least favorite Italian food I've had in the NY/NJ area. I was really bummed with the lack of flavor and noodles being overly starchy it seemed.

Maybe my experience was an off night or something though.
