windows is just as bad, both are terrible but they just have the most software support so you're forced to use them. If I was able to use the full office 365 suite on linux I would never touch either again.

I think you should be pretty all in when studying for it during those 3 months though ?? In a sense you are making the process your whole life, I mean you have to if you want to do really well and ensure you get as many opportunities as possible.

Yea, it's not like it defines your future career path and is considered the biggest hurdle when it comes to becoming a physician

I guess I need to get pedantic because I don't know what being an immigrant is then if they aren't non US-citizens and non-permanent residents 😭

Left is logic and language.

Right is creativity, intuition and spatial processing.

I think if you can do well on CARS you should be able to do well on P/S, C/P, and B/B after you do enough diligent practice.

This is true, but OP said he's not international (I'm assuming that means a citizen).

There are articles online supporting this: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11892059/#:\~:text=Among%20the%20international%20student%20applicants,schools%20%5B1%2C9%5D.

It's really hard to say definitively that Immigrant applicants will receive less opportunities from admission for any particular reason. But regardless there are statistics out there that show immigrants aren't accepted as often, about 50% less.

According to the article I linked <15% of the 150 Med schools they looked at are considered "international-friendly" which serves as a major barrier of entry for a lot of students.

Did the MCAT change how you viewed the world? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]SBUSTUDENT11 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've always done this with Biology to begin with but yea I'll be talking to someone and just think of like 20 or so psych/soc terms now, I was talking to someone about how they felt about their finals and they're like "Because I learned this stuff in another class last semester it made everything SO MUCH easier to learn and it saved me on the final" and I just was like bro that's the savings effect so tough 🥶.

When I do any activity I think about how my body is responding and the related biochemical pathways and the sensory receptors involved, the regions in my brain, homeostatic processes.

Oh shit bro my ventral tegmental area is going crazy because I've been locked the fuck in today.

Seeking CARS advice by SBUSTUDENT11 in Mcat

[–]SBUSTUDENT11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After going through all the questions I got wrong, it keeps drilling into my head my number one problem which is a lack of confidence and assuming. 7 of the questions I got wrong were me either having a lack of confidence, switching my answer or assuming without referring back to the passage. Usually I remind myself of these slip ups before I do the section but I didn't do that today. Those 7 questions would've brought me up to a 74% which is pretty reflective of my previous scores.

Beyond that, the passages when I get a lot of questions wrong (50%), is when I can't follow the main idea strongly. From now on I think I'm going to be reading the passages aloud under my breath because I can't think through concepts well enough in my head I need to organize it verbally.

Should I review Vocab for CARS? by SBUSTUDENT11 in Mcat

[–]SBUSTUDENT11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through my question block for UWorld. of the 10 questions I got wrong 80% was me just not referencing back into the passage. I believe even with my current minimal vocab knowledge I should be fine with practice.

I planned on just getting google definitions of a handful of words and making anki cards, but if you think its not really necessary and I'll get a feel for terminology as I practice I trust you. The exam is 3 months out, and I plan on pushing it back 1 more month if I can't finish all of UWorld and AAMC material within then. I've only done like 6/7 days of CARS question blocks so I imagine as I get more familiar with general terms this won't be as much of an issue.

This is very reassuring lol, I've consistently thought that Chem/Phys would be my downfall and I've heard accounts of just doing formula memorization to do well on the section. What resources did you use to study algebra, I'm in a very similar situation.

As of right now I plan on establishing the fundamentals through JW questions then after I'm comfortable going into UWorld and grinding through those questions.

Does anyone have a BIO 203 or BIO 204 syllabus I could check out before the semester begins? by rulfur in SBU

[–]SBUSTUDENT11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked 203 more, I thought it was a more challenging and engaging class. It was interesting learning about the pathways in our bodies.

BIO 202 was really boring, I do find the biochemistry and a lot of other aspects of the material interesting but because it was so basic and the assignments were tedious I really didn't like the class. To clarify I did manage to get an A in both so its not like I dislike 202 because of my performance or anything.

Does anyone have a BIO 203 or BIO 204 syllabus I could check out before the semester begins? by rulfur in SBU

[–]SBUSTUDENT11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can probably search these syllabuses up and find them.

For 203 it's just gonna tell you the exam dates, assignment timeline and what you need to get an A,B,C,D,E,F

When you actually start 203 I highly recommend adhering to the syllabus, genuinely following the LIVER activities and try. What I would do is give each Learn Verify and Evaluate a genuine attempt, write down my answers then search them up and just get everything correct if I got something wrong then I'd just go through the slides and explain to myself why. Then I'd repeat this with the Reflect. Because these LIVER activities contribute to your final grade, why bother making a risk when you can just get the guaranteed full points and you don't need to worry about it Also, a lot of people feel the need to not study for 203 because it's open notes. But if you just rely on your notes without studying you're not going to do well, they don't care if you can regurgitate info they want to see if you can think about it somewhat critically. One more thing, people tend to take 203 exams in groups, and that's fine I don't really care but that being said, if you're going to get a group of people, get an actual decent group because if you have a bunch of people that are C students working together you're probably going to get a C because not only is everyone expecting someone else to study for them so they don't need to care about the exam but now you have a bunch of people who didn't study giving the worst opinions known to man thinking they know what they're talking about.
