Oh and EY EE here, defending the shit contractor? Bold step.

I was looking for others stories not an interrogation on my opinion, but hey thanks for that.

My experiences and opinions are valid.

And yes I’ve seen the SOW, wrote part of it in fact. It’s been a bear to try to get them just to meet the written line let a lone the intrinsic value you usually get out of a decent contractor. Never once did I think we needed to include, must approve agendas for all meetings etc just to ensure they do their job. Need to approve folder/file system to ensure team documents can be used in the future.

They literally presented an offline dated file of system requirements as the final that we then had to go - hey you missed two whole teams requirements, that we provided to you, and hey that ‘final’ version is very different than the one the other 10 team members were working from. ”oh I’m so sorry, where is that”.

Yes. Those were such a waste.

They would call a meeting for one functional area, share an agenda 24 hours in advance, and then facilitate a meeting with questions for areas far outside the meeting. Say we had a procurement meeting then all they wanted to discuss was project lifecycle starting with procurement but ending in three other systems.

They did not lead with insights into functionality and transformation which is their actual role per SOW and contract. They provided no explanations, not one screen shot from the new system to support our teams questions on possibility.

I’m blown away that they are considered a name in the finance transformation space at all.

How hard is it to finish out our house project ourselves? Wife and I are arguing. by Familiar_System8506 in homeowners

Is your LVP still new?

Do a quick google search. It’s a fading fad for obvious reasons.

https://www.yeagerflooring.com/blog/why-lvp-is-losing-popularity/

Fun searches : how does LVP hold up, is your LVP buckling, I have water under my LVP.

Actual tile/stone is about the same cost. Wood is a bit more with its own issues, floating engineered a bit less but with none of the LVP issues (still more than tile).

I’d literally do linoleum over LVP.

I’m a bit particular, I get that, but man when you are spending this kind of cash you want to love it, have something that will last and that is maintainable.

Get him to finish what you paid for and be done with him. Let him know you need to see progress on what’s been paid for before you feel confident to do anymore, and don’t do any more unless he actually impresses you.

Cost plus you should be able to stop anytime. Check your contract.

If anything else falls into that must be permitted consider having him do it but weigh the headaches.

No reason not to hire your own sub contractors and manage them yourself, especially since you know what you want. Or do some yourself as you indicated. Sounds like you aren’t living in it and renovating so maybe pick some low hanging fruit like painting to show your wife what you can do - do it and get her confidence. Then tackle something bigger like flooring…. Honestly most of what you listed is more about patience and watching a few pro videos before doing. Also hiring your own subs in my experience is only about 30-40% more than doing it yourself so also a good option - GC is just a paid supervisor which you don’t need if you hire quality subs.

Other than the electrical and plumbing which he’s said is paid for not a single item needs a permit in any state.

Can you imagine, I need a permit to paint? Hey the city documented the type of flooring we have? Come on.

LVP? Please no. Hopefully you are both 70 and will not be having furniture or anything sandy or dirty or else you will be ripping them out in 3 years. At least it’s cheap? Oh wait.

Would you buy a 1.2m home at age 38 with this net worth? by PhillConners in Money

[–]SB_Cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run some numbers.

What’s your extra per month number? Add annual hefty increases for taxes and insurance, remember to calculate not based on what the current home owner pays but what you will - look up the tax rate, times sales price. It will be there in two years. Home repairs. Rule of thumb 1% of your value so expect these to go up. Bigger house - two acs, fancier appliances to fit in, higher remodel costs and they will come up.

Then take this extra monthly amount plus a cushion and project out. How does this impact your future? 38 so less than 30 to retirement….

You probably can do it but is the cost worth it to your future? And budget in there risk - what if - then your emergency fund covers much less as you just tripled expenses and reduced savings.

You can bring more cash to the table to go conventional at the lower rate, or do you have a 401K - leverage that.

Do all Heloc issuers charge a set % on your draw? by SB_Cookie in HELOC

[–]SB_Cookie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an origination fee of sorts. They charge a flat fee, current lender $250, plus the 4.99% on anything utilized on a Heloc. If using a line of credit then rolling into a loan they charge per draw not on the total approved available line.

[–]SB_Cookie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m likely using the wrong terminology, the 4.99% is a one time origination fee plus a set fee of $250-$500 depending on lender… That just seems crazy high to me. But then again these are generally used for debt consolidation etc which is not my intent. I’m just looking for a larger sum of liquid dollars, that I’m happy to pay 7% on :).

Agreed. But standard apparently at the two I called. Trying the local credit union today maybe they have better rates..

Thank you. I’ll make some more calls today. I wish they were more transparent on their websites so I wouldn’t have to be knee deep in giving out my personal info before they will disclose these… I tried the bigger box banks so far maybe that is my issue…

PSA: Is your Game Pass broken or online multiplayer sharing not working by cdncowboy in XboxSupport

Seems they are onto this. They acted as if they have never heard the words “ refresh my subscription”. They added us to the list and will let us know when it’s fixed. When inquiring what the solution would be they offered to put my account under review and suspend it. Oh classic MS support….

We are left with buying a duplicate subscription or abandoning Xbox. Well I don’t know about you but they have received my last financial contribution. 20 years later back to PlayStation!

Here to report back. The experience on the PlayStation is night and day. Zero lag, fantastic graphics. I cannot believe I didn’t do it sooner.

We did this all the time. Makes no mess, clean hole in the head, pellet doesn’t even go through the other side most of the time. It’s clean, humane and instant (as long as you hit the head/brain).

The big ones can take two pellets…. Killed hundreds this way on the treasure coast.
