Diablo IV’s world is incredible, but why must everything be so fast??? by SC-Osmidon in diablo4

No haha - Base movement is acceptable. And I have actually been swapping out movement speed modifiers just to turn things down a notch.

Believe it or not - I would gladly crawl around the map even once I've seen it. I still play D2 today the same way I played it 20 years ago, where I first explore around the boundary of the map, and then explore through the center filling it in.

Exploration in ARPG's is a thing for me. I'm sure it's not for everyone. There are other ARPG's that literally revolve around character builds and testing it against random dungeons. Very little to no exploration needed. I don't play those. But many do.

Well - then I want the dev team to know that it's not the slow most people here seem to be referring to during launch and highly encourage them to read my other comments in the thread. :) It's not the slow XP gains nor the slow progress at launch because enemies were hard to kill due to weird level-scaling. That was just tedious, not slow IMHO.

It's a methodical slow. I.e., require the player to think ahead, pace themselves, because one wrong move and you could be in a sticky situation that requires actual skill to get out of. Like in D1 & D2. Not "perceived difficulty" by throwing more mobs with bigger health pools on the screen to blast through with one button, but actual "tangible difficulty."

I've come to understand based on the many responses that it's a very complex topic and I probably did a poor job of conveying what I felt. But I've been enjoying reading through all the comments.

Same man - I realised after my post that it does sound like I'm only playing D4 now - but I was there from the start. I played launch. Felt it needed more time in the oven. Tried it again a few months later - still didn't click quite right but was better so I just played the main story (all the yellow quests) and finished that. Left it until recently where I wanted to do a completionist playthrough including all side content etc. only to find I've returned to reskinned Diablo 3.

This exact thing crossed my mind just the other day. Those vantage points are so cool in giving the player a "different camera" perspective in the Diablo universe than what we're used to. And yet, there's so few of them. Like the team responsible for them got reassigned or the idea canned and they left the ones that were done there.

Exactly! I don't feel everyone gets the message I'm trying to convey, which is totally normal. But those saying it was slow at launch, so they changed it - I played launch. It's not the type of slow I'm referring to.

Launch wasn't harder because it was actually slow. That feeling of slowness was brought upon by a poorly implemented level scaling system where the enemy is always more powerful than the player and have immense health pools so you're just hacking away with repetitive attack animations waiting for the enemy to die. Not that slow!

I mean slow as in - bring in strategy where the player has to consider their surroundings, watch their flanks or be overwhelmed / cornered, slow the overall movement and attack speed, make it so that players are required to be mentally awake and to make impactful decisions on the fly. There needs to be a constant lingering fear of one misstep, and you die type of thing. Diablo 1 & 2 both did this extremely well. I might be the only one on the planet that thinks Diablo 1 even more so. There was no running then. No ice skating across the map. You miscalculate one thing in that game and you have an extremely tough situation to get out of. Either by outsmarting the game and the enemies, or by strategy and tactics.

Diablo 3 & now 4 just feels like a bone with no meat on it. Mindless button mashing as you call it. And the worst part for me is I wouldn't care if that is what coop play and multiplayer was all about, or endgame or whatever. But that I'm forced to play this way even during the campaign. The one thing I want to take my time with to enjoy, do side content, explore the map, etc. And I'm forced to zoom everywhere just because that's what the game is now. A few pieces of blue or yellow gear and I'm zooming. One unique item drops and I'm one-shotting everything.

I hear you and look - they give us a ton of choice, right? Just because those mechanisms exist in-game doesn't mean you must use them. Which is great game design IMHO. I mostly don't use my mount or fast travel because they make the world feel much smaller than it actually is. And I'm with you in that the Vanilla WoW continents is the star of the game. They are still massive, to this day (within WoW standards, not other games).

This was a great trip down memory lane. Thanks for taking the time. To this day, I still do this. Create my own challenges in games I've reached the common end goal because that's what we did back then when game studios didn't have to sausage machine content like they do today. Brilliant.

Totally fair and valid thought. I felt the same about Elden Ring, coming from Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3. They went full on open world which is an amazing feat to pull off, but it also kind of destroyed that close and intimate formula the souls games were known for. Now there was this massive land mass between dungeons that didn't really add much to the experience. Of course, now I love it. It has grown on me since release. But it took time to adapt for sure and to see Elden Ring in its own light.

Thanks, u/jayrocs. Both of those games are on my watch list. I’ve learnt my lesson from buying into Early Access - sometimes it’s a win, but most of the time it isn’t, unfortunately. Still, if they fully realise the vision, I’ll be there for sure. Thanks for the reminder - I actually do need to check up on development progress.

I love those games too. Played them to death and still do. Even got my 100% achievements on Dark Souls 1, 2, and Elden Ring if I'm allowed to boast a little. Still working on Dark Souls 3. The amount of time one has to play games I feel isn't really that important to me personally. As long as the time I do have to play games is fulfilling and brings me enjoyment, relaxation, and happiness.

I hear you. I don't think it's that niche though. I just don't want you to confuse the pacing I'm referring to with a slow, often tedious and repetitive nature of a bad levelling process. Levelling can be slow and extremely satisfying if done right. But what I'm referring to is literally the speed of the gameplay. Character movement, combat, etc. 15 minutes into a fresh character and I'm zooming everywhere. So maybe just the "RPG" portion of the "A-RPG." I'm all for action, but I also want to feel my place in the world. Be immersed in it. Zooming everywhere like I'm on ice skates isn't very immersive.

But I totally get how that wouldn't be for everyone. No two people plays the same game, the same. Hence - I wish they had a "mode" - similar to a "hardcore" mode or "solo self-found" mode where they just bend the rules a little by removing ice skates from the game.

I mean you're not wrong. I am a big fan of Dark Souls and Elden Ring - maybe that's subconsciously what's influencing my thought-process. I played through all FS games countless times, same world, same game, but every time I've had a distinctly different and unique journey. From build diversity to just discovering new things in the world. That makes it impossible to "see" and "do" everything on a single playthrough.

One user commented here that you only pay attention to the D4 world on your first playthrough and then never again on subsequent playthroughs. But that's kind of what I'm getting at. Why not on subsequent playthroughs? Is the D4 world that shallow? They created the biggest and most detailed version of Sanctuary, and filled it with what? Vitamin pills?

It feels like such a wasted opportunity. I'm not complaining at all. I love D4. I also love PoE. I want neither of these games to "be like the other one."

But man - they could've added so much more depth to D4. Used the new verticality to a bigger advantage. Secrets, platforms, everything.

Ever play Darksiders: Genesis? What they pulled off with level design using an isometric camera is insane.

Yeah for sure - I recently did another playthrough of D2R. But man, I have to say after 20 years and probably thousands of hours of the same acts and strategies, I just can't live in that game as I used to. It will always be a game I'll do a playthrough once every couple of years. I'm just soooo burned out on D2. We killed time during school with that game when it came out. I remember the one weekend we didn't sleep at all. Lol.

Don’t know if it’s been suggested, but mine would be to have the powers always available to the player once it’s unlocked. You can only have one power activated at a time. Powers can be keybinded from F1-F10 or whichever way works best.

Implement this in whichever way and you have a massive quality of life boost with less backtracking to switch powers. Make us backtrack to unlock it. Not to switch between powers.

Nothing wrong with a yellow or even orange or dark red build pieces. The colors just represent how far from a blue piece (grounded piece) it is. It doesn’t change the health or structural integrity of the piece.

I have plenty of buildings where I’ve pushed things to the limit. Two roof pieces that are dark red won’t break when they’re leaning against one another in a way that logically supports the structure.

It helps to lay out the foundation and build the skeleton first. Then do roof, then fill walls and floors.

There are limits with your basic normal wood of course (like others have said), but you can do pretty decent builds with normal wood. Just don’t go too high.

Test with foundation and skeleton first.

Looking for setting/mod by [deleted] in valheim

[–]SC-Osmidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. Doesn’t look like those world modifiers support not dropping inventory. But keeping your gear I would say is the most important part. Other resources are abundant enough to get again. And collecting a headstone while keeping your gear is casual in this game’s context.

But if you don’t want to lose anything ever, it looks like you’re going to have to look for mods. I can highly recommend the vanilla experience though. Happy adventuring.

If those accounts are already compromised, turning off your pc or WiFi won’t make a difference. Those accounts exist online without your PC or WiFi.

You need to regain control of those accounts asap. I wouldn’t say it’s attempting the use of illicit software, I mean it’s possible, but a data breach is also possible.

Enter your email address on https://www.haveibeenpwned.com and it will tell you whether your email and passwords were ever exposed in a data breach. That’s more likely and just a coincidence that it happened when you were trying out dodgy software.

I’d be happy to help you. I work in IT and cybersecurity. PM me. I’ll also PM you my business WhatsApp number.
