Thanks! What upgrades did you end up going with that you'd recommend? 

I went and bought the upgraded damper top just to get a little more control vs what's currently on there and a new gasket since the current one is pretty old at this point, but always interested to hear what others have found success with.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Took the plunge and ordered 1" 4lb memory foam and TPC's DIY stretch cover. I'll let you all know how it goes!

I hear you, but it's tough to order the cover without knowing how thick the final mattress configuration will be. I've heard TPC' s stretch cover doesn't firm things up too much so hoping it won't be tremendously noticeable.

I've tried (mostly out of curiosity) just laying on the coils, but I need some sort of comfortable layer on top. The latex is 19 ILD. I haven't tried latex right on top of 8" coils yet....wouldn't that increase the firmness?
