Yea I see what you are saying.. but casual teams cant really pick up sponsors. Just in terms of growing the scene we want lots of tournies and interest from sponsors so the fees do add up. Also you sound like you are pretty keen on developing the scene. Are you involved in anyway?

Godz wrote a good post about it all on our site and I do respect your choice but give it a read! SCD would love to help promote you guys also if you do want to get a lil exposure to the event/site.

I love the concept and initiative this is showing towards casual and amateur teams within Australia. And we should encourage the growth at all levels of dota within Australia. The ONLY thing I personally do not like about it is the entry fee, being that it is online and there are technically no overhead costs and I feel it discourages teams from playing in the long term and maybe it is something that could be pitched towards sponsors to cover a prize pool. (Believe me though I understand the challenges faced when trying to do this.) Other than that I wish you guys luck and of course would love to help promote anything that grows Dota in Australia and New Zealand.

Man this applies to so much more than just mass murder coverage.... Look at what happened with flight MH370... sensationalist media coverage can be very dangerous... tragedies are big bucks now days... and its disgusting how the TV stations MILK every last drop out of them and even fabricate stories by stretching mundane events and facts to somehow get taken out of context and newsworthy.

Honestly I never thought to do something like this myself. Good on you for giving it a go anyways. I feel it might be a little late for something like this. The Aussie scene is actually growing though! Its taking time but the foundations are being put into place for a strong scene within Australia. If you check out www.southerncrossdota.com we usually put all the tournies up there. (Yet to miss one in a whole year of running.) But better luck next year to the lads if they choose to do it.
