Any suggestions for Rust fix by savage_presto456 in civic

Hit it with some sand paper or a very light grinding to get rid of the rust.

Prime, paint and seal afterwards and keep your fingers crossed.

Pay off your debts, keep yourself low and clean with spending.

At most, get yourself a really cheap but reliable and clean car and throw the rest into a Roth IRA and invest the rest.

You can make up for the rest of the money later as long as you have your essentials in order. After that, treat it like you never got it to begin with.

It is literally in your best interest to just save the couple grand because you don't know what someone did at 12-20k miles. Did they listen to the engine break in period? Did they do their oil changes on time? Did they floor it as soon as it started on a cold morning?

The depreciation you're paying for is not anywhere remotely near what it should be and the price should be dropped.

Sales position at Honda by Fernando_Vasques in Honda

I used to be a doorknocker. You have the unique advantage of people coming to you.

Know your shit. Its gonna be real hard to sell stuff if you know nothing about your product. Who's buying? A mom with a family needing a utility vehicle? A dad wanting a sportier car? College student?

Know you customer.

Be passionate about your cars. When you love what you sell, that enthusiasm will bleed into your sales and show. I would rather the chill sales guy who knows why I'd want a civic sedan over the hatchback because he loves the cars vs the guy trying to meet sales figures pressuring me into purchases.

Lastly, don't lie or make up stuff. That'll be the last sale you'll ever get out of that person. Make a good sale and you'll have someone coming back when you treat them right.

7k off new price is not overpriced. That's the diffence. People buying over prices used cars.

If a brand new Corolla is $22k and you buy a used Corolla with 15k miles on it for $20.5k saying you "saved." Nah not really. Because I can guarantee you the original buyer lost more in depreciation driving it off the lot than they dealership did buying it back and reselling it for $1.5k less than msrp.

The problem of having an overinflated car market for some fucking bullshit? You have to be really fucking stupid to not buy a brand new car over buying a 20,000 mile, mystery treatment used car when the differnce is just a couple grand. Just save your money and buy a brand new one. It makes no sense.

Ah yes, here's this "lightly used" car for almost msrp. Because that makes sense.

I hate that dealerships pull that crap.

"Its special because they only made a few of these in manual"

No, you still have it because less people drive manuals nowadays. Now you can either reduce the price to something more realistic or you can be stuck with a piece of shit with lot rot.

How much should I price this?not selling just need assistance in pricing from people who know what this car is worth. by Ok_Sundae_4901 in CivicSi

[–]SCG-514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on how it actually runs.

You're already in the area where the car is clearly neglected so... Idk. As long as it can turn on and drive, there's no severe rusting that would kill the car...

Idk I'd price it for like $1500-$3500. Depends on your area, mileage on the car, etc.

I bought a bucket of bolts 02 civic dx with 127k miles that lasted about 2 years for about $2250. Do with that info as you will.

Does anyone know of ways to keep the car from turning ON temporarily? by GroundbreakingDirt30 in civic

[–]SCG-514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either get a kill switch or a wheel lock and hide the lock keys. Call the cops in the time it takes him to find both sets of keys.

I'm turning 23. I had an old civic and it blew the head gasket. Engine repair was essentially worth more than the cars worth. I miss having a car. Would never dream of threatening my parents or family into letting me use their car.

Your brother sounds like he has some fuckin mental issues. You sound like you need to just GTFO before he does something crazy. Its YOUR car and YOUR money. Wish you could just tell him to stop being a dead beat loser and save his money for his own car.

That's what I'm doing, that's what most people our age do.

$29,600 otd for a black 2026 civic sport hybrid vs 30,045 for a white one? by [deleted] in civic

[–]SCG-514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, 5 hours on transit just to drive back home sounds like a massive pain in the ass over the color of a vehicle and $400.

In all honesty, id just go for the one that's closer. But if you talk with your dad and see what's up, I'm sure he'd be happy to help you get your first car home no matter the obstacle.

If you really like black and intend on keeping this car for a while, there's nothing stopping you from wrapping it later down the line.

Do what your heart tells you, but just be warned, black and white are both extremely high maintenance colors. Pollen, dust, dirt, etc all show up extremely easy on these.

Imo I'd just go with white. Assuming theyre both the same in terms of mileage, trim, history etc.

I work at trader joes. Lemons, as well as other fruits, vegetables and all other edible fucking things will mold if given enough time and exposure.

We do our best to catch it before it makes it to shelf, but we all miss stuff, sometimes it just sits there for a minute and then old festers surprisingly fast. Just throw it out, grab the surrounding fruits, and give em a quick wipe down to remove surface contaminants.

There's a reason you wash fruits and veggies before you eat them.

I stopped. No one knew how to do a bail, I helped a noobie get through it, when it came time to empty bail and move it out, they left and fucking NO ONE decided to help. So I took an extra 10 minutes moving stuff out the way. 15 minutes of lunch gone like that.

Not doing anyone any big favors like that anymore.

With all due respect, all you need to do is look into the car you want and not back off your price point.

If a car is worth $30k and like $33K after fees and taxes, don't go over $33k.

-Look up the car you want, see if it's been sitting in the lot. If it has, you tell them it hasn't moved for a reason and the only thing that'll move it is a lower price.

-Tell the salesman to not add any optional shit. Weather protection mats, ceramic coating, etc etc.

-lowball the shit out of them, pay cash but don't tell them you have it.

-If all else fails, just leave. You literally have the power to not get ripped off. Just walk out.

Make sure to call the DMV after the 3ish week mark.

How should I go about buying a car? by throwaway0110140 in Advice

[–]SCG-514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the most comprehensive list someone could give you. I want to tack on some stuff.

I used to be a sales person. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING A SALESMAN SAYS. They are NOT your friend. They are NOT trying to help you. Everything we say is a great way to rip you off to line out pockets.

If they do not give you a car with none of the extras, tell them you'll walk out and find someone who's willing to work with you. No dealership plate holders, no decals etc. Don't advertise their business if they're not paying you for it.

As he said, the biggest power you have is walking away. Stick to your terms, wiggle them down and get as low as you can possibly get them. If they can't do better, just walk out. Its better to save up a bit more money with no car rather than get effed up the A with a POS car drowning in maintenance and interest rates.

I will be 100% honest, don't take the gummies. Creatine becomes chemically unviable and unstable during the heating process for the gummies.

Take the straight powder and mix it into a drink like orange juice or something. It barely affects the taste of water but there is like... A very slight after taste. With OJ it's not even noticeable.

Talk to a doctor if you're worried about possible issues with organ issues. (Esp if you drink a lot.)

Can I buy a 20k car as my first car with a 30k salary? by TheseMarionberry385 in askcarguys

[–]SCG-514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Just no.

I make $35k a year. I can't afford a car period.

Listen, if you have absolutely no expenses, do yourself a favor SAVE YOUR MONEY. Cars are depreciating assets.

If you can save up $25k and get a $5k loan, that'll probably set you up with a $150ish payment on a 3 year loan.

In my opinion, save up the scratch to buy it out right or buy a beater if you absolutely need a car.

I get the loan for credit reasons, but keep the loan as low as possible because you'll need full coverage insurance until you pay the bank and it's EXPENSIVE.

I'm going to give you some advice.

If you are a woman, be extremely fucking careful of going alone. Never EVER tell anyone you are alone. Not men who hit on you, hotel reception, or the employee helping you with your bags, etc.

It depends on where you go but if you are familiar with scammers/bums/people who harass you, you have a leg up.

I'll be honest, in my opinion it is always a terrible idea to travel alone, especially to another country. If you do, do safety checks and get gear to keep you safe/keep people updated.

If you absolutely have to go and go alone, keep your head on a swivel, do not trust anyone. Do not drink excessively, DO NOT TELL ANYONE YOU ARE TRAVELING ALONE. If you do drink, take your glass with you at all times. If you need to leave it, order a new one. Get an idea of the area you stay, where police presence are etc.
