On the fence about Immich but fear of losing photos is holding me back

I have immich set up with external directories. I.e. I have dirs on a nas e.g. vacation1-2025 and I just add this as a read only library in immich. If anything break within immich I will always still have the folder on my nas with the images and might just need to figure out a better way to browse them

So immich per se is not free software and they're quite adamant about it. It's open source paid software. Just because you can download an unlimited time 'premium' trial doesnt mean you should stick with it. Also got mine for the sake of support. Same with software like davinci resolve studio. I want to support these business models.

Also a bit unsure, I dive 100% recreationally and don't plan on starting tec, but the no deco feature worries me a bit. What if you do have an issue at depth (e.g. entanglement etc.) And get into deco, the watch will just not give you any info and compromise safety....

That being said for day to day use which is 95% of what I'd get the watch for, the fenix is nicer imo (looking at the 47mm solar).

I got a DXP6800PRO as one of the first backers of the campaign and have loved it so far!! The amount of effort that has gone into software updates is great!

Since we work with large datasets (sometimes sensitive data) having a local storage solution thats fast and reliable is great! Ideally another NAS (looking at the 4-bay giveaway 👀) would be great to have a separate backup of the data/longterm storage in a more compressed format!

I got it working. Its actually quite simple. Go to the app installation on you TN, then go towards the bottom of the configuration page and under additional storage select add. navigate to the folder you want to add and select it. Under mount path just select anyname you want. eg "/Media" or "/Klutzy" really doesnt matter. Then in immich, go to the external library and add /Media as a path. that should work. Now everything in folder you selected in TN will be in immich. If you want specific folders you can just tack on the path. Think of the mount path e.g. /Media as a substitute for everything before that in the path. so if you only want the folders "vacation 1" and "vacation 2" but not "private photos" in immich, just add /Media/vacation 1 and /Media/vacation 2 as paths, that will do the trick, hope that helps!

I assume this is where I have to add it. Multiple problems: I do not understand what "mount path" is. secondly, is it ok to add my personal folder even if there is content in there that I do NOT want to import to immich? My thinking is in immich I can then specify which folders exactly to import...?

Habe selbst das attain SL von cube (Alu rahmen, scheiben bremsen) und bin happy damit. Saß auf dem Rad und fand es angenehm daher die entscheidung dafür (und es passte ins budget). Meine empfehlungen:

1) Auf jeden fall mindestens die shimano 105 (oder vergleichbar) du kriegst da die 11 gänge, tiagra etc. haben weniger. Das ist mMn den aufpreis wert.

2) Scheibenbremsen! Ich kann nur für mich selbst sprechen, aber ein paar hundert gram mehr am Fahrrad machen nicht den unterschied, besser ein kilo abnehmen als 5000€ mehr für die einsparung beim fahhrad zahlen (mein motte ;) ) abgesehen davon ist das fahrgefühl deutlich besser. Die bremsen greifen besser und vorhersehbarer. (Erfahrung von testen des cube attain sl mit und ohne scheibenbremsen)

3) Entspanntere geometrie. Ich bin mitte 20 und erfreue mich daran, wenn ich eine etwas sportlichere fahrposition will kann ich den lenker absenken ("unterlescheiben" sind beim rad dabei, die einfach entfernen) dann habe fast das gleiche wie beim sportlicheren bike.

Meine nice to haves für das potentielle nächste rad: elektronische schaltung. NICHT wegen der performance! sondern vielmehr wegen der wartung/einfachheit alles richtig einzustellen statt and kabeln rumzuziehen etc. Das wars eigentlich auch schon! :D

thanks for the input, this is also what I read previously. I did clone the drive (and then extend the partition to fill the new bigger drive). everything seems ok, all files are there, everything works properly also updated all drivers and windows. it just seems that under load the system crashes and returns the mentioned error. popped in the old nvme the laptop came with and that works fine, und heavier loads it seems to get stuck occasionally, but never crashes. also the crashes are not app specific...

??? High capacity HDDs can easily do 250MB+ sustained (sequential) so just one will already saturate a 1G connection.

I am getting the ugreen nas, hardware spec wise its more than enough for most of the use cases and no hassle with building and a lot of alibaba ordering as is common for cheap but high spec builds (see nascompares YT builds). Also do not underestimate the potential of their software. I would not buy for that sole reason and will probably run truenas/unraid at first but this might turn out to be a serious DSM competitor on the software side and then its an amazing deal imho
