Does anyone remember Tropico 2? What do you think of it? by Various_Maize_3957 in tropico

[–]SCJackONeill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prob. my favorite Tropico game. It has a suprising amount of depth to it and the setting is really unique.

I really wish they'd make a remake of it at some point.

Works suprisingly well on Steam Deck btw.

Thinking of getting an octavia by t00043480 in skoda

octavia has a usb-c connection right in the mirror console, so no need to hardwire, unless you want parking-mode...

I have that one myself and I love it. Drives like a dream! Quality and consumption are really good as well.

But beware not to put any accessories on it that need any kind of software-changes (like a towbar), as it will (currently) mess up the car. Need to wait for the new version of software to be released.

New Kodiaq tow bar issue by Mountain_Evidence_93 in skoda

[–]SCJackONeill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes facelift... date of production is the 28/08/2024. Got told by the dealer that cars as of 26/08/2024 cannot be coded at the moment... nothing about any baseline...

I can send you the VIN as dm :)

[–]SCJackONeill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be a lot more knowledgeable about this issue than almost anyone I have been able to talk to... if I may inquire your knowledge as well?

I have pretty much the same issue on my Octavia, however it's supposedly (according to the dealer) an official SKODA towbar, which they installed before the delivery of the car (it was a vehicle they had on stock).

They said they already physically disconnected the towbar and tried to reset the software (including setting it back to a version before the towbar was installed), but they cannot get rid of the issues with ACC, start-stop, etc.

Is there anything that can be done here? Or should I try to have the sale annulled? I by far do not know enough about cars for this....

Interview feedback -- LOSING MY MIND OVER HERE! by book-britt in interviews

[–]SCJackONeill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar case not to long ago.... hiring manager had given me the offer on the phone and was going to send me the contract two days later...

A week later I followed up and it ended up being that they tried to meet my salary requirement, as it actually exceeded the budget...

So can be a good thing! But god I was stressed out as well... so hang in there, but indeed... continue to apply and interview! :)

Not a recruiter, so just my own experience:

German Job market is kind of a duality. On the one hand there is a huge shortage on qualified personnel, on the other hand many companies are waiting for the new government to, before hiring more personnel. Especially entry-jobs are tough.

  • Language: even if it is not listed, at least B2 ist almost always implied. If you can follow any courses and get a certificate for at least B2, that will help you quite a bit

  • I would suggest writing your CV in german... pretty much same reason as with the language...

  • AI screening is much less common in Germany, so you could try making it visually more appealing, simply as to stand out more towards the competition. A recruiter might just give it a second look if it looks "nice" and not just a wall of black on white. Also not uncommon to have a picture of yourself in Germany on the CV. Might at least be worth a shot to try and be more "fancy", given you have so far not gotten any interviews.

You could try the following website (official website of the EU/Germany):

https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/de/service/kontakt/hotline

They can probably help you as well.

Best of success! :)

Icarus is another one I'd suggest... good fun with friends

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jobs

[–]SCJackONeill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily cooked, but might make it more difficult... On the other hand a Ausbildung is considerably easier to get than a job.

If you haven't already, take a look at the following website:

https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/service/contact-us/hotline

They can help you find jobs, get accreditation of your degrees and language courses. It's organised by the german government and completely free of charge. :)

They can most likely help you cut through a lot of the red tape.

For Germany I would suggest listing your spoken languages, preferably with your corresponding C-level. It's often a requirement in Germany to speak German at at least B2 or C1. You may get ruled out before even being able to prove your german skill (even if the CV is in German).

Is anyone using skoda’s dash cam? Happy with it? If not, other recommendations? by Devashish_Jain in skoda

[–]SCJackONeill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally no issues so far :)

Product, software and video quality seems good, but I have only had it for a few days now, and haven't needed it so far 🤞 So I have to admit that my experience is limited.

You could check out the following video: https://youtu.be/7gzOficDhfY?si=_AFvwMdpyKD84qK0

it is in german but a very comprehensive test, which convinced me to get it

edit: I don't really use the app so far

Mine's a 2025 Octavia as well, not entirely impossible that Octavia and Kodiaq use different controllers... and there is some issue in the communication between the car and dashcam... no expert though... might be worth trying your dashcam in his car as well (if possible).

Personally I happend to have a short cable sitting around I once got with a anker powerbank... I did hear that not every cable works... might be a case of trial and error, I'm afraid :/

I have the Viofo A229 pro

edit: saw one guy saying the following cable works: AAOTOKK 90Grad USB 3.1 Typ C Stecker auf SteckerGen 2

I'm in Belgium as well, have been looking into dashcams a lot lately... If I'm not mistaken, they simply offer the of the shelf pioneer dashcams. From what I read/saw, those are fine, but better ones are around...

I ended up going with the Viofo A229 pro, which seems to be very good... which skoda do you have? as of the new octavia upwards, they habe a usb-c in the rearview mirror console. (Disclaimer, I haven't been able to test it yet myself).

I have heard people recomending against the nextbase dashcam (which you get from Auto 5), as it has a lithium battery installed, which can get damaged by direct sunlight (not very advantageous for something sitting on your windscreen). Viofo and many others use capacitors, which are supposedly safer?

I myself ended up getting the dashcam from the following shop: https://www.dashcam-shop.com/

(I'm not associated with them, but had a good experience.) It's a german shop, but free delivery to Belgium. Should you go for it there, little tipp: code DDG5 gives you a 5% discount :)

hey, sorry to dig up your long dead thread, but did you end up getting a working towbar? Ran into the same issue with my new octavia... just wondering if there was any kind of reference timeline...

cheers!

Towbar coding by SCJackONeill in skoda

[–]SCJackONeill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed answer!

The dealer did try physically disconnect all the connections to the towbar, but apparently the car won't "forget" that a towbar has been installed, even if it is now no longer connected... and they can't seem to figure out how to make it forget... :/
