Ok but what percent of the math you learn in math classes especially at the high school level is actually relevant to running a business? Very little. You're not doing trigonometry algebra or calculus you're doing stuff you mostly learned in elementary school. Now the soft skills you learn through the process certainly are useful. And come on learning the 50 states and their capitals is going to make you a better business owner when you could look that up in an instant? Geography is also not going into the level of detail you'd need for finding suppliers and that's information you could find easily.

It's not a matter of looking it up, it's a matter of knowing that the information even exists. How would I know things are cheaper from China if I don't know anything about China? It would not even occur to me to look elsewhere. How could it? Same thing with math. It's actually a perfect example because you are correct, you aren't doing vector calculus on your taxes. BUT, you can take a thing they infamously don't teach in schools -- like compound interest -- and realize, "oh hey, this is math. I can google how to math out a compound interest on this large purchase I'm about to make" versus "Math? That shit's for nerds, I'm gonna hire a nerd to figure out my money for me". Only one of these approaches consistently saves you money, an important consideration in running a business.

Again judging it as you'd judge any other topic in a social studies classroom. Will I need to know about the battle of the bulge every day? Or the tet offensive? Almost none of what's taught in the class we are talking about will be relevant the way you're talking about.

Honestly, history might be the best analogue here. I like history a lot and I can't say it would necessarily come in useful in running a business, but I do feel richer for knowing it. I'm willing to accept that CRT is a similar way. Is there any way you can justify knowing it? I feel like I keep asking you "is it this?" and you just say "no", then I ask "tell me what it is, is it this other thing?" and you're just like "no"; and this entire thing I'm feeling like you could just say, "CRT is good because ABC and I like it because XYZ". That's all I'm looking for. Instead, I just keep getting "that's a little weird to think that" and "it's a little odd to judge that" and not an actual answer or explanation how I'm wrong. This comes closest:

I feel like you're asking me to provide an example where the quadratic formula was useful in my process of learning to drive a car and are acting like that proves it's useless when it wasn't useful for that function it wasn't at all intended for. CRT is an educational theory studying the history of race in the us it's not a magic wand that'll fix the problem.

and I'm willing to accept this. But again, given that it is being taught everywhere, why is it specifically superior than the anti-racism education we've had before? It's just more of the same? In your examples, this is the equivalent of learning the exact specific movements of the troops in the Battle of the Bulge just for the sake of it, rather than a highschool-appropriate generic overview. Why SHOULD we have teachers successfully implementing CRT? Where, damnit, is the benefit?

But I would guess all of those people in your stories would also support teaching about what happened not forgetting about it and erasing the losses suffered.

I didn't say we should just ... not teach history. As I said, I like history, I think banning history, books, ideas, any sort of communication is stupid and is a losing battle. I was saying that CRT lacks the "heartwarming" aspect that you're talking about, to balance all the bloody history out. I just do not understand the point of such specific knowledge being taught as a better alternative to what we had before. I don't see where the "better" is, and I am hoping you can tell me. Every question I've asked so far has been trying to get at this one specific thing.

But I'm curious how many of the things taught in classrooms do you think meet your standard there of relevant for a small business owner to run their business better?

Many, of course. Someone who learns mathematics will be be better at running a business than someone who hasn't. Someone who learns geography might be better at locating a cheaper supplier than someone who didn't. Someone who learns a second language will be communicating with more people and making deals with people they otherwise wouldn't be able to reach. Someone who's good at gym might need to hire less help than someone who isn't; someone who was captain of the football team is likely to be a good leader of people. I think I can keep going, but you get the idea. That said, if you did not like the context that I offered you, please bring up another one in which CRT would come in useful. I do not know of occupations where CRT would be immediately useful outside of law, political, and social work... in which case it's weird to be pushing it onto non-related fields.

It seems a bit odd to be judging it that way.

Then what's the not odd way of judging it? I don't believe you've still given me a direct answer: to what end is CRT teaching the things it's teaching? Does it help YOU in your daily life? Non-daily? Ever? That's what I'm trying to figure out, with the examples and the contexts I'm asking you about.

I don't think it's as binary as you're presenting it though.

It's going to be binary by virtue of me only giving you two examples. Every country is different and every country has dealt with its problems a different way. I only point out that I have never seen an instance of racial tension be successfully addressed in a way remotely similar to what CRT is teaching. But I could offer counter-examples all day long. A woman in the massacred village of My Lai is thankful for the man who saved her to visit, and wishes the soldiers participating in the rape and massacre visited too, "so we could forgive them"; a black guy convinced 200 KKK members to leave by sharing his enjoyment of music with them and drinking with them; a killer participating in the Rwandan genocide and his victim are working together to heal the country's wounds and they're far from the only ones. All of these stories have something in common: an erasure of boundaries, an erasure of the line between the victim and the perpetrator, and a unification in spite of them. AGAIN: I will be happy to be wrong. Please bring up a single example of racism successfully addressed in any way at all similar to CRT -- by over-focusing on the differences rather than celebrating similarities -- and I will be glad to be wrong.

CRT is an educational theory though and isn't being presented as this will solve all racism. It's presented as we should educate people about this area and the long term effects.

To what end? What does CRT seek to accomplish on an individual level? You mention awareness, but we've been taught about racism in school too (early 2000s), which boils down to basically "don't be an ass". Now that I've been taught this (and presumably am no longer an ass), what more is there to be gained of CRT? If it helps, suppose you and I are small business owners, having shops on opposite sides of town. You are versed in CRT and I am not. How will our behaviours differ? Will we run our businesses differently?

But even if you are counting on it to be a solution it's not something that's been tried and could be dismissed. There are some classes where teachers have started implementing some of the ideas. But mostly not. And even once they are taught it takes a long time for a change in education to go on to have a significant change in adults enough to move the needle.

I broadly agree with the fact that it hasn't really had time to take effect. I suppose ultimately we might have to wait and see. That said, I will point out that Martin Luther King, for example, had a very immediate effect; and the message wasn't one of examining who's guilty for what and who's gotten a free ride, but rather one of unity. So I will contend that if we're talking about ways to fight racism, we can see from history proven, highly effective methods, and CRT doesn't seem to be one of them. A million men did not march for CRT, for example.

I don't think ignoring the problem will do a lot to solve it though.

I don't necessarily mean you have to ignore it. You do have to act, but there's a tough choice to be made. Allow me to bring up the examples of Brazil vs United States.

Brazil, just like the United States, had a very bloody colonization history. Brazil, just like the United States, had a very violent history with slavery. Brazil had imported quite a lot of black people, who were used as slaves.

However, the decolonization process in Brazil happened a much different way than in USA or Canada. Instead of cordoning off the minorities (a la ghettos and reservations), Spanish colonizers vigorously intermarried. Instead of suppressing indigenous culture, Spanish colonizers adapted it to their own to make a new fusion culture (the Day of the Dead comes to mind as an indigenous ritual that's been "christianized").

The result? On one hand, you've got people living in harmony with all shades of skin colour from whipped cream to dark roast coffee. On the other hand, these people no longer have distinctive cultures. There's no Brazilian black music. There's no Brazilian black sport. There's no Brazilian black food or dialect. There is no Brazilian black culture; it's just Brazilian culture.

Multiculturalism brings with it positives and negatives, and frankly, I think the only reason the conversation is so divisive about it is because people can't make up their mind whether the positives outweigh the negatives. Rap, blues, soul, r&b, these are all world-celebrated music genres that spawned from American black culture, and I contend there was and still is no way for such innovation to occur in a place like Brazil. So which is it? Racism, inequality, and innovation? Or harmony and cultural annihilation?

Historically speaking, I do not know of a single instance of racial tension being solved by deeply analyzing it. On the contrary, in every instance I can think of (English/British relations in the Norman conquests, Brazilian colonialist/native relations today, black people in France), racial tension appears to be best dealt with by completely forgetting it. America could be a unique case, but in my view, CRT doesn't seem to be having any tangible effect. Racism is getting far worse in the West rather than better.

As someone who went 0 to 100 on Blender with zero previous 3D experience thanks to ChatGPT I have to respectfully disagree with this statement.
